Top Lane Marksman

I'm just curious about something and i wanted to make a quick topic to discuss it with some knowledgeable players. Since the pre season changes and marksman update, a lot of marksman have been a top lane pick, i mean even more than usual when Vayne and Quinn were alright top laners. But now its just marksman in general for top lane and I'm just here to ask is this actually going to assimilate into the actual meta of the game or is this just an off meta spur of the moment event?

Seeing as how the meta has shifted to favor early and mid pressure and snowballing, putting later scaling champions that have to work a little harder and longer to earn their bread on the back foot don"t and they seem to be fairing well in these kind of matches--just from what I've been seeing.

Ive been hanging back, watching from a far, and keeping an eye on things while the game is in the state it is, but what are the chances of top lane marksman fully implementing into the meta and setting in for a serious and indefinite time period? Can that be expected to become a big change in season 6?

have you ever played a melee vs a marksman?

them being weak early game is actually just a myth. in reality if theyre not faced with anything thats an assassin or mage, theyre going to bully the shit out of you. even before the changes. a lot of them can even lane well against mages by now. even more so with the +5 ad they all got.

it might not seem like much, but it makes a large difference with their constant auto attack poke. marksmen are all about early game pressure.

It sucks I know. Certain champs like mundo or shen can do ok and just be slightly behind in farm. Others will require a lot of help from their jungler or mid.

Yea thats what makes it work in the right match up, but there has also been a rise in Rammus and champions that can sustain a fair amount of damage and jump on you to burst out-trade you like XinZhao, Renekton, LeeSin, Yasuo in the top lane which would be an absolute nightmare for marksman or any later game champion that cant match their early game presence especially if they get snowballing which is why im conflicted about taking this seriously or not.

I have.

Unless the marksman is Vayne, Quinn, and if you count him Teemo, it's often pretty easy.

Once laned against a Miss Fortune top as Jax (before this pre season that made him stronk). She tried to harass me. That was cute. I killed her early and hard carried the game despite it eventually turning into a 4v5 against us.

Substitute "melee" in your post with "immobile melee". Not every melee champion is Garen, though frankly even he can easily win all-ins versus marksmen that he can reach. It's the ones he can't reach that are hard.

I can see certain marksmen staying in top lane.

Quinn for sure due to split push potential and ability to come running to a team fight if needed.

Graves I think just cause of his General tankiness and burst.

Teemo for his blind vs marksmen (or anyone else)

And maybe even urgod in some cases.

People I don't see doing well top are your typical hyper carries like vayne and jinx due to the fact that any mid or jungler who is worth a damn will come up every so often to get a free kill as they will almost certainly over extend.

lol well teemo was always top lane though. And thing is Vayne and quinn were already viable good top lane pick prior to season 6 as well. What im talking about is these were still unconventional off meta picks but now theyre rising as on meta picks.

don't think it will hold itself. marksman are to vulnerable on the liong lane. They can easily bully most melees if used well, but there is no room for errors, one mistep post 6 can easily mean death. In higher elos, i expect marksman to play it save enough to dominate most matcxhups without getting cought out, but then aagain, the biggets weakness of toplane adc are ganks, and higher elo junglers usually abuse that really well.

well, maybe i'm wrong and melees in lower elos aren't competent enough to punish an adc for mistakes, but atleast in higher elos it's a risky pick as it all depend on the jungler. If your jungler can keep yours at bay, you can dominate lane, if their jungle pulls ahead, you will probably get dived 24/7
