Ludens echo + ARAM

what a boring game.. its basically excessive poke and really not fun to deal with at all when 4/5 of the enemy team builds the item.

and not that much fun to play with either from the other side of the coin.

really would be better to not have that item on the map.

Would tend to agree. For a small map like ARAM, it offer's a bit too much.

I've seen champions with no business getting Luden's Echo getting it for the sheer proc on high chance or large aoe-esque spells. Game's now mostly become poke wars between LE user's and those that don't and the LE usually win. It also provides as another secure form of wave clear on pretty much every champ which tends to stall out the game longer than need be. This is also the main problem people have with the Mark/Dash. Since waves can be cleared so easy, it seems the main effective champions anymore are those that can dive and break up a tower turtle.

I just think the item provides a bit too much burst on a map such as HA where the area of the map is rather small. a kog'maw w, a teemo shroom, an aoe nasus e, or someone walk over a nidalee trap. All abilities that are either obscenely large surface area, or extremely small. What's worse, it effects everything hit by a particular cast, so the more you hit the more simultaneous procs you get thus making the item extremely efficient as a form of HA poke or wave clear.

The major issue in my mind If you ask me, the damage proc should be relevant to the size and skill of the mechanic being used to land the proc and not just on the condition of landing magic damage. With this item, there's just too much free damage that comes from zero-risk poke (here's looking at you super huge nasus aoe), or tiny by the wayside traps. Basically, it turns any good damage spell into a great damage spell, while turning any lame magic based spell into an average spell. Why should a Nidalee trap become a landmine that already scales with AP and if LE is up does an additional scaling damage. Why should the burst i get from standing on a Luden's Echo landmine trap scale with level.. really? This takes no skill on the part of the nidalee, and there's no way to remove it (like teemo shrooms). It seems counter-intuitive to place that much damage and scaling on potential spells that are meant for an entirely different purpose of the champion. She's already an oppresive poke champion on ARAM, but with LE it just makes the window of dodging her spear and her LE proc that much more difficult especially given the already small nature of HA.

Finally, lets compare it to its balanced ad brethern the statikk shiv. Why is statikk shiv balanced. Because it requires an auto attack and the range of auto-attacks for each champion is at a reasonably similar range relative to the strength of the champion which requires a degree of risk on the champion using it. It does a flat amount of damage per proc each time and the damage not scale with level, AD bonuses, or meta factors(size of the spell hitting more than one target). Since it requires an AA, no relative map/sizing advantage is in place for the item. Finally, because it requires an AA, you really don't get random targets of the SShiv proc as you do in the LE case. It doesn't change the power level of any individual spell because of the meta-factors of that spell. Typically, the person you're going after is the one effected. To sum it up, SS doesn't offer much in fire and forget.. or just flat out random damage from ability spamming.

LE on the other hand requires very little to no risk. For an item that is only 200g cheaper than deathcap, I would argue the ease of the procs on high aoe champions just makes item way too efficient for ARAM with only 1 lane and no room to counter it. It's by no means backbreaking but a little tuning to the damage vs. easy of use is necessary on a map as small as Howling Abyss.
