Since not everyone's got a PBE account let's just discuss the Updates here

Malicious Metal··61 votes·5,067 views

Now PBE feedback is great and all but: A) The skill level in the matches differs too greatly for it to be an accurate representation of power B) Not every PBE tester is going to play the Assassin C) Not every PBE tester is going to give feedback on them D) You can already give feedback even if you haven't played the reworks already

So how about instead of complaining we'll gather some info on what people think of the reworks.

I'll start with a quick summary of what I think of the reworks. Disclaimer; It's MY opinion, everyone's entitled to their own! And don't forget to share it if your views differ from other's.

Talon let's kick things off with IMO the best rework of this batch. I feel Talon's rework completely delivers on the niche of THE roaming assassin and offers a lot of ways to express mastery over the champion beyond just being able to press buttons as fast as possible.

His laning and burst pattern are more intuitive but I feel the three hit burst might lead to him not being able to finish off enemies since the bleed might be EXTREMELY high (200% bonus AD) but delayed.

Overall I feel this rework might be one of the best roster updates, the E in particular is very unique but might be a tad frustrating to play against, which is remedied by Talon lacking any foolproof way to disengage fights and would need to be able to flank efficiently and play smart

Rengar This one's a bit trickier to judge. I really like his empowered abilities as they're all unique and triggering them even gives him MS, making him highly maneuvrable in the midst of battle. He feels more like a hunter as well, especially his Hunt being more of a two-way event rather than him just popping R and popping the ADC

I feel he'll be played a bit more tanky akin to a diver though since his kit has synergy in extended fights. His Q, while looking cool takes some getting used to but overall it delivers on Rengar's theme as the prime Hunter. (BTW he'll get 42% increased AD if he kills Kha)

Katarina Oh boy will you break your fingers wanting to play her to perfection. Her new dagger mechanics make her extremely jumpy and slippery in fights as well as really delivering on the lethal assassin's dance of hers. She's very mobile and her juggling daggers is extremely important to her succeeding.

I have ONE gripe though, which is her ultimate. She's still stationary for 2.5 seconds and channels for extreme damage. it just doesn't..fit? anymore due to her being extremely fast and jumpy. Maybe decreasing its channel time and lowering the CD might help make her feel more fast paced

Leblanc She's got a ton more combos and her R's text is almost as long as Jhin's passive. Overall she got a bit more interactive and got decent wave clear with a clearer burst pattern and more deception. I still find her rather boring though, but hey, a lot of people find Morde extremely boring too XD

I won't get into every smaller scoped Update but here are those I tested and what I think of them:

Akali I like her new passive as it allows her to not be so feast or famine and extremely opressive when ahead. Her clunky AA and low AS makes it a bit weird to apply though. Her W change is cool but her nerfs to E and R have to be partially reverted. Just number problems though.

Khazix Actual choice for EVOLUTIONS! Oh boy! I feel he has a bit too much synergy with the new Duskblade though and evolved R makes him able to almost perma-stealth in the Jungle. Really risky but there has to be a reason to consider upgrading R, huh?

Ekko Finally his passive slow is gone! Hallelujah! Still, I feel AP is still so bad on him because of how easily his damage is avoided. Timewinder needs to return faster. Or make Ekko able to reactivate it to manually return it to him, its damage depending on how far it traveled.

Those are just MY thoughts on the updates, really interested in hearing what you guys think of them as this is literally the first time in ages that I've played any assassin.

I'm surprised Riot did not put more work onto changing Crescent Slash (E), it's so bland.

Given that Akali can't front load her damage anymore with the ultimate changes, and the new gameplay attached to her passive to require 2 autoattacks, I think it's appropriate for her E to proc Q again and/or proc her passive. That would smooth out her gameplay, instead of having to pull off 2-3 autoattacks in row, you can mix it up with some E's and AA's. Even with shroud immuned to pink wards, it's still not possible because when you AA, especially multiple times, it reveals her and shroud lasts too short at earlier ranks (it's maxed last) for most of the game.

Plus it would finally make that skill have meaning in Akali's kit again.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

Keep in mind that they intend to do the same thing they are doing with Swain for Akali. The update they are giving her is to make her more playable till the can give her the VGU they want to give her later down the line. so issues that currently exist might not be a problem after they get to her for a VGU.

It might be more fitting at this point if Kat's ult threw out a bunch of daggers for her to rapidly blink between. You'd still do quite a bit of AoE damage, espically if you blinked onto a group and activated 2/3 at once, and the current counterplay (don't group up as close as you normally would) could remain intact. Hard CC could still be made effective if they last a short period of time (say, 2.5 seconds? O.o).

50000000000000003 votes

That'd be really cool, and basically play like before. Or compromise and make ult throw out a Q every second (half second?) or so for 3 seconds.

maikokk2 votes

ya, as a former kat main, her ult never made much sense on her even with her old kit. this rework would be a good opportunity to fit a synergistic ult like this on her kit

I played fizz on pbe, he still feels strong. His w now has a clear indicator as to how much damage it's going to do and how long it's going to tick. His ult has more range and does less damage up close but it still feels good; laning as him is still kind of hard mid because you get kited so hard but that's just Fizz I guess. Mid game he feels really solid and he has a good way to engage from a distance. He feels playable against and has some ok synergies. Overall he feels pretty good.

Ameliea7 votes

On the KatarinaKatarina Part: It would be quite easy to give her an ult as fast as the rest of her kit but her ult purpusefully isn't as fast paced to have some duality in her kit. If you want to maximize damage output you cant just hop around aimlessly but instead use your abilities to position yourself in a way so you can channel the full duration. Making all abilities synergize with each other (glares at Yasuo) sometimes can create gameplay problems by making everything too linear.

It has become a common trend with Riot to make atleast one ability break the gameplay theme of the kit so it is easier to understand which part of the kit causes balance problems. It is the reasont why Ryze lost his Ult in his update and Leblance will loose hers in the next one.

For example:

  1. GravesGraves w isnt useful, neither in his burst nor his dps play pattern, instead it brings in a new level of gameplay by allowing him to outplay via vision.

  2. Yi'sMasterYi w is the same, it breaks his fast pace dps playstyle and at the same time adds counterplay to his self healing by immobilizing him.

  3. AlistarAlistar has 3 abilities synergizing whith each other in a dive playstyle. His q and w are basically only one ability in most cases, adding a 3rd synergistic spell would make it so alistar has literally a single spell.

  4. **Ryze ** Ryze is a little overtuned, but since his ult got changed to break his pattern which it didnt before, it becomes easier to determine which abilities to tune back without nerfing everything about him.

(DISCLAIMER: all of these were / are strong / op at some point, just some examples where one spell makes the kit more diverse instead of just activate everything)

it's weird how riot delayed the burst of assassins on a different lvl, i mean talon got it delayed by like 2 seconds, meanwhile leblanc got it delayed by 0.5/0.7 seconds.

overall assassins rework were all good, especially Rengar Katarina Fizz Talon because it fixed things, and really FIXED not like mage/juggernaut (except darius) rework, assassins have tons of counterplay now.

Shaco is the only weakness of this patch. Riot gave shaco more possibility to juke people, but they nerfed SO HARD his early game

"but shaco needed his early game to be nerfed" yes, but they didn't fixed his feast/famine problem, shaco problem is that unlike other assasssins he needs 2 items to burst a squishy, and that will still be the case.

GoldBay992 votes

I agree somtimes shacos early game can be annoying, feast or famine indeed but the invis length nerf was a little bit to much, first rank is only 1.5 which i think for the sake of keeping him true to being the slippery trickster that he is should be increased just a little, if not increasing the scaling all together at least increase the starting invis to at least 2 or 3. or if thats not the direction riot wants to go they can at least make him not useless late game by making him still hard to kill by making the q on a shorter cooldown or reverting the late game invis time to the original time.

Only Play Darius1 votes

Shaco's early game would have been completely out of control thanks to the removal of pink wards. Now that I think about it, there's going to be no way to defend against Evelynn/Twitch ganks.

50000000000000002 votes

New pink wards will reveal both Eve and Twitch, right? Since they have Camouflage, not Invisibility?

Dessem2 votes

Absolutely, Jelly Mac is incorrect. Pink Wards will still reveal Evelynn and Twitch, since they don't go invisible but camouflaged.

Leblanc has to wait 1.5 seconds for her to use her passive. So the burst between talon and leblanc arguement is invalid.

Shaydrox6 votes

I'm a platinum I Talon main, and I've been testing him on the PBE. So far I can say this: it's awesome. It's absolutely awesome.

His damage in lane is a lot higher, his kill pattern is more difficult and definitely more engaging for both paties, and he feels a lot more unique. I agree that he's now more about skillful play rather than just pushing buttons, hitting your Rake both ways requires better play, and finding moment to get the melee Q for bonus damage is challenging and rewarding. The new passive heavily improves his earlygame, actually makes it sorta good, but his lategame is very underwhelming right now (likely getting buffed as he's considered underpowered in general).

100% agree this is the best roster rework, though the new Kat is also really well done. I'm not that big of a fan of Rengar myself.

Off Meta Evan1 votes

Other than allowing you to jump over walls does his E have any other use? like bonus AD or MS?

This Talon update fuckign delivers like you have no idea. Stashu has done beautifully, and god, a 1350 Talon skin is the only thing left I could ask. I am so hyped to be able to play new Talon, cause while he is still the awesome badass live, he is really boring and simple for me to play (I like making my life difficult, so I play stuff like Azir and AP Ekko). While I don't think he'll be that much more complex, he'll be above and beyond in terms of how interesting his kit is.

Honest to god, I'm kinda bummed he probably won't see this, but I hope Stashu knows how much I love this rework.

PBE Tester Here Summary of my feelings towards the changes

Katarina - Hands down the best of the implementation of the changes, whoever thought of her tossing her dagger into the air deserves a medal and a raise. It really makes you feel like a bad ass as you jump around setting up daggers blinking back and forth murdering everything.

Leblanc - I have a long hatred of this champ, but the rework is neat and not too bad. Her R +R combo is interesting, I think she definitely needs numbers tuning atm if R + E connects say goodbye to your healthbar. Not sure how I feel about giving her waveclear, but if thats what they want I think her W radius needs to a bit bigger because it is pretty hard to hit the entire wave if the minions arent 100% cooperative.

Talon - I was looking forward to the Talon rework but I am more disappointed than I expected. I think mostly because I wanted him to keep his blink, and the narrowing of his W actually makes it harder to hit at close range. Actually a lot of thing bug me about this rework the more I think about it. His Q healing on minion kill is helpful in lane, but really not thematic at all. His new particles are very jarring, even though I'm glad you guys thought to update them just seem to clash with everything from Talon's look to the map. Love his E, wish it wasn't an active skill, wouldve preferred it be his passive tbh. His passive is another 3 hit passive, effective but getting REALLY tedious at this point.

Rengar - A bit tougher to judge, I like the idea. I think he needs numbers tuning. I can't tell if he is weak or the jungle just beats his ass right now. Without the AR/MR from his W or the heal from the empowered form, the jungle is hard as fuck till you get a lot of levels. Its like he is a shitty single target jungler AND a shitty AoE jungler at the same time.

Havent really gotten to the others yet. THE NEW ITEMS THOUGH Edge of Night is amazing, it + banshee's veil + merc scim should allow you to get to damn near ANY target.

New Duskblade, buy it on Kha PERIOD - also it is amazing in general

Ghostblade - its worse but still fine, has a niche for mobility

Poacher's Dirk - Really nice item for assassin junglers, the 60 sec CD between camps means start it early and build towards warrior. Once you've go it, it should be transformed or transforming by then

edit: for those who don't know Talon's passive is a SHIT TON of damage and the ward clearing on duskblade is like a 90sec CD so its not like you just deny every ward that ever exists

PROJECT Katarìna3 votes

Heres my Feedback for the Talon Katarina Rengar Leblanc reworks on the pbe since I got to play some of them

Talon :make his Q have slight more range and/or make like ekko's E where he can dash in a direction before jumping to a target to dodge skill shots, and his W a shorter cooldown for later levels since his E only gives him high mobility or give them both lower cooldowns with a long cooldown per wall. His damage early game is much better against melee champs but much weaker against ranged ex. dodging Ahri Charm and Xerath Q still kinda dont like the fact they took the blink off while Zed and Katarina have a blink basically.

Katarina : Make her Q drop faster just the drop part not the whole animation, W should have a gnar q feel when using it not everyone wants to jump out otherwise pretty good job so far Im fine with the other changes.

Rengar : make it where his ult sees all champion in a range not just the marked target its really hard to assess if rengar should go in or not cause they could have 3 other champs around and he wouldnt know unless he scouts out the area which he cant because he is camouflaged not invisible. still miss the fact his Q doesn't reset his autos anymore which makes me feel it reduces some skill to play him. his W healing some of recent damage taken is so much more visually better that just getting some armor and mr plus I love the ferocity effect on it, allows you to have a reason to use empowered W other than "I need some health right now" breaking cc pretty cool.

Leblanc : haven't played her yet I got work to go to soon Illl do this one later

Sincerely a cancerous assassin main

99% sure her early game got buffed with the new passive and w.... She really struggles pre 6

Reshaos2 votes

The new passive will help with early but the w is a major nerf for early game, which as you stated she definitely does not need.

Also, as an Akali one trick, I am pretty concerned about her new passive and how it interacts with her q proc's. Her normal combo is q --> wait for cd on q a bit --> r --> q. That alone usually chunks most laners to less than 20% health at level 6, if not outright kill them with ignite.

Now with the new passive the q proc won't get the passive's bonus magic damage too for the burst. You would either have to r --> q then walk away because you are an assassin so prolonged fights are your enemy, thus sacrificing that extra 2nd q you would've gotten by throwing it first. Or you would have to Q --> immediately r before q lands to get basic attack --> proc q --> hope the laner stays to get q proc'd again but good luck with that.

But you're Nunu.

GoldBay991 votes

I think that the 1.5 sec on Shaco should stay early but i think that the invisibility time should scale more, it only last a max of 4 seconds, thats a crazy hit to shaco if you think about it. AND it takes away a big part of his style of play and who he is as a character, hes less and less of a slippery maniac and more of a guy who just gets himself killed then leaves some stuff behind to be annoying lol

The Yetii Rider1 votes

If you look at the PBE feedback thread, people are saying Shaco's damage is out of control right now.

GoldBay991 votes

Idk where your looking but ive only seen like 2 people say that, and its just been people who fed him it seems, he got a bunch of early kills and now does a lot of dmg, isnt that with every fed person? I wouldn't take the words of like 2 or 3 people so highly, they probably just dont know how to play vs shaco.

Weathered1 votes

Its a second more at max rank though, and the backstab does more dmg ;)

ProfDrDeath2 votes

Personally, I am kinda iffy on the whole Lethality thing.

As it is currently set up, you can get up to 3 items with 20 Lethality each. In the end, this allows an assassin to penetrate 60 Armor against a level 18 target. Against a squishy, that is close to true damage. And all three items give good AD on top of that.

Moreover, squishy champions, especially Marksman and Skirmishers, have no good Armor items (for good reason, I might add). Negating a component of their defenses outright could prove to be a precarious affair...

6Sfool4 votes

I'm worried about what that means to tanks. Riot said that since it scales with level, they can have more late game than before. Combine 60 arpen with 190 true damage first hits, great flanking skills, and last whisper, an assassin that faces even a tanky team can do some serious damage.

I'd suggest to riot that they change the way penetration is applied, making flat arpen apply before percentage (now is the perfect time to make changes like this). This would make people actually value armor again.

Shadow Hazard2 votes

Ekko I think that the cooldown lockout on his passive needs to be lowered for jungle monsters, that is my only request.

Fizz Fizz used significantly more mana to farm now, and he is still way too easy to bully early. his passive needs a big change tbh

Are2 votes

As a Jhin enthusiast, I am very worried about Zed's new AD gain mechanic. I don't understand why Riot changed Veigar's ult, and yet give Zed this kind of mechanic.

Edit: It's not just 5%, that's just rank one. It's AD = 5 + (5%/10%/15% or enemy AD)

Champion Skin1 votes

Well it probably won't be that bad... Zed will gain about 5 extra AD for every 100 AD Jhin has above a normal ADC... so 10-20 extra AD? probably won't be that bad...

Talon looks weak, but that's a tuning thing. His Parkour is interesting, but I don't know if that will get him bot or top lane faster than others as the river is the straightest path to both. Looks like his E will be better for Jungle skirmishes than anything else.

Kat looks like she'll be strong when people figure her out, but I'm not sure which build will be better for her, or how her combo's will play out. Like if you W in place then ult, when the blade lands, do you spin while ulting, cancel the ult and spin, pick up the blade and not spin, or do you not pick up the blade until after the ult? There's just a lot more depth, and I think that her AoE nuke spin will reward people who are good at lane manipulation

LB looks insane. Just bonkers. Numbers are too high, but the kit looks super fun. The delay on the passive is a good Idea, but Jesus it looks like she can carry freakishly hard.

Rengo looks like he's not an assassin anymore. That may be fine, but he looks like he's supposed to be a skirmisher or light fighter like a Fiora or Xin, more than an assassin like the others.

Talon Should not be allowed to use his E while in combat that sounds really dumb and unfair to play against. Katarina I would like riot to allow us to throw the W where ever we want. (Or at least test it out and see how it works) Rengar As a Rengar main I think this update was a big fail for many reasons.

  1. The ultimate is not consistent. Basically what this means is that I ult and then I find that this MissFortune is the closest enemy to me... GREAT exactly what I want so I start running towards her and then all of a sudden when I am about to jump I just see a Malphite and I am stuck and can not even jump to the MissFortune ...
  2. Since half of his burst is removed (His empowered q doesn't give ad or AS anymore) You should be able to use q while jumping on people that would be a nice change.
  3. Since his ultimate doesn't give movement speed after you jump you are limited to using 3 abilities and YOU CAN NOT USE YOUR EMPOWERED ability because you need that empowered w for movement speed and the CC immunity to get out of a fight... Basically you are limited to q w e and the crit from your ultimate and you are forced to use the empowered W for escaping or you fall down with the ship. Leblanc I have nothing to say about her as I have not played her on current servers and I don't have much to really say about her because I have no clue how her new update works specially her clone it makes no sense.

The last thing that I wanna say is just a PSA. Ban Vayne when the assassin rework is out as you can not reveal her stealth anymore she simply has a 2 second cool down stealth and with item 3147 she will be OPOP.

TucuReborn1 votes

Talon mobility is limited to only using it on an area of terrain once every 150-50 seconds depending on rank. Yes, that means he is slippery. However, he also has to decide whether to vault over walls to get to a fight or to save it to escape. This means that if he engages badly, he can't escape at all unless he uses his ult invisibility. Yeah, it will suck to have him get away if he does do it, but no worse than any other champion who can jump walls.

The W is better as is. you can throw Q to where you like if you understand it, and W acts as an escape or outplay tool well enough. Letting her throw it wherever would make it so she can escape without planning ahead, which is what it currently makes you do.

About Rengar... We call what you describe as "counterplay" and "decision making". The ult is consistent, very much so in fact to the point it has counterplay. If he ults and he sees the squishy ADC, the team can surround them and block vision. This also means he has to decide whether or not to ult in and go for the kill or back off. His Q requires aiming as a pseudo skillshot. It's harder and has a skill requirement instead of being an auto enhancer. As for his abilities and his need to empower, he has full choice. You should not be engaging if you know you need empowered Q and W to succeed, and that type risk analysis is vital to all champions. Sure, some cases he may need to use empowered W to escape like Morg supports, but in others(lone target, no CC, low health targets) he could fully choose to use his empowered Q or E.

LB's clone is about faking out opponents and making them blow summoners or skills.

And your last point about Duskblade is sort of true, but not practical. She does have the stealth, but she is usually not in it long enough. If she waits she severely cuts her DPS even with the Duskblade procs. I would be more worried about the ADC being smart and using it to clear bushes than a Vayne destroying her DPS to get Duskblade procs.

Kingdom Corn2 votes

Lmao rengar has no counter play... Alright I have nothing to say I guess its hard to drop a pink ward or maybe stun him? or maybe play lulu?????? If anything rengar and zed and talon and akali NEED counterplay to lulu you feel so USELESS against her you jump in and you cant do anything no matter what champion you are playing. And by the way it is normal for you to not know a champion's weaknesses if you haven't played them... So here is the thing I main rengar and I know every bit of counterplay that his kit allows and it is quite a lot and it is simple it is just that people are not used to doing it. For example dropping a pink ward when you see ! above you... LETS BE HONEST WHO EVEN DOES THAT? Now with the rengar rework riot are just SHOVING counterplay into your face saying "You could counter play rengar easily but here aremore nerfs to him" Dont believe me still? his trash win rate might be a counter play.... Edit* forgot to say in season 5 there was 1 player in EUW that made it to challenger with rengar. Right now NA has NO CHALLENGER RENGARS! http://na.op.gg/ranking/champions/name=rengar No challenger koreans http://www.op.gg/ranking/champions/name=rengar And EUW has no MASTERS OR CHALLENGER RENGAR PLAYER http://euw.op.gg/ranking/champions/name=rengar So rengar broken or you just dont know how to counter him?

Tattersall1 votes

First, I'm definitely not what you'd call an expert. Honestly, I'm still relatively new to this game (this is my first preseason).
With that out of the way, the only thing that really concerns me is item 3147. I mean, just because of its ability to detect wards, I feel like it's automatically a must on a few champions. Vision is really important, after all.

TucuReborn2 votes

Me and a friend were talking about rushing it on an ADC to clear wards right before ganks, so even off assassins it would be at the very least decent. That and the passive true damage could easily boost ADC damage of champs who use stealth or bushes a lot.

CorruptedScythe1 votes

What do you think of this Katarina change: Her ultimate now channels for 1 second, doing about half the damage. During the duration, 3 daggers fly out and land on the ground next to the targets of her ult. Less targets means more daggers by the targets, so one target gets 3 daggers next to them.
