I read that article as

"We understand no one but bot buys wards and never upgrades their trinket, so we're getting rid of green wards and making trinket upgrades free so your top/mid/jungle don't have to take 250 gold out of their precious farming to upgrade the trinkets they already forget to use. "

I'm more concerned about them removing item 2041 and item 2004 from the game and increasing the price of health pots. I have no Idea how the hell anyone is supposed to face a resorceless champ like Riven without some way to replenish mana. champs like Pantheon XinZhao MonkeyKing and Irelia are pretty much S.O.L.

They said they were adding multiple types of refillable potions. one of those is probably a mana potion --> a mana only bottomless flask.

They are probably going to get it right, although it will probably take them longer than I would like because its going to require rebalancing numerous champs. In my opinion after the mana regen nerfs at the start of the season they left manaless midlaners like Kat/Akali/Zed overpowered for way too long and I pray it won't take them that long to fix the balance issues that will inevitably result from nerfing all the early game items.

I think I would be okay with that, as long as they don't price it at something ridiculous. I really only use item 2041 for the mana any way, the health is just a bonus.

Don't forget about these guys that totally rely on Crystalline flask Fizz Gangplank Hecarim Kassadin Jax Malphite Pantheon Singed Sion Yorick They would get screwed so hard if flask gets nerfed and pots too

Riven without health pots? Her base health regen is abysmal. She would probably suffer much more than most.

someone already mentioned that... also after re-reading it it sounds like they have some plans for new flasks. It will be interesting to see how those will work if I'm not reading to much into what Riot wrote.

As a support main I always buy one green ward, then a few more later until I can afford my sightstone. Since I've started playing Riot has done nothing but make vision changes worse for everyone and until they see that I don't see things getting better. At all.

they're also making the trinket upgarde free, so people like me who always forget to buy wards win more

This is true, and while I'm not saying you do this, I've found that people who forget to buy wards still don't ward unless told. It just feels like Riot is handing something to them that, while useful, doesn't make them use it.

It's more a mindset than it is about availability. Even last season I never had trouble buying wards. Ever. Whether I was support, mid-lane or top lane, so when someone says "I can't afford it right now" I just kinda roll my eyes because that was never true for me.

yeah its really sad im gonna miss them i actually normally buy one or two early on when im mid top or jg tho for top i buy pinks more now that i think about it. :/ but the reworked support stuff looks interesting.

Without green wards I predict that junglers will be the target of quite a bit of Hatred because of ganks, maybe that means eve can get some buffs since shes on a more even playing field for ganks
