Disable Banning Indicated Picks

Please, the potential for abuse far outweighs the potential for banning away a high priority champ for a low pick-order player.

It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it feels terrible.

no.. this needs to stay.

i mean i RARELY EVER have to use it. but i HAVE had to at times.

and of course there is the obligatory. if its is 100% pick ban... and your last pick.. and no one is going to swap with you... im not fucking letting it through... sorry. and then the obligatory no new champs in ranked for at least a week so u can learn to play the damn thing first

Or, maybe you should swap with them if you can, or be willing to risk a bad matchup occasionally? Maybe Silver is not high enough Elo, but the only time I see indicated champs banned is when a troll does it, or when I did it by accident a few times when I was still below Level 30.

"Be willing to risk a bad matchup occasionally" is not a stronger argument than "be willing to play a different champ occasionally."

no because if a person on my team is 5th pick and wants to play a certain champion that I really don't want the enemy team to have ill still ban the champion because the enemy team will have plenty of opportunity to pick the champion I hate to fight before my team mate has the opportunity.

Just because you'd rather not risk playing against a certain champ doesn't mean that you should be able to decide that your teammate, who may be a one-trick or main, shouldn't be allowed to play them. You could also first-pick them the champ.

  1. First picking them the champion assumes that you have it and they have what you want.
  2. If it even crosses your teammates mind to ban the hover then there's a good chance the enemy would pick it.
  3. Every one trick should have something they can fall back on for times when the other team picks the champion or bans it.

There's no functional difference between your team banning a champion and the other team banning it. In both cases you move on to the next pick.

Sincerely, a Xerath one trick.

  1. You may have it, and they may have what you want.
  2. Then you should first-pick it. The enemy team might.
  3. I do, too. But I've never had my stoneweaver banned for any other reason than someone else being a jerk or just doubting me.

While I kind of agree with this, I also kind of don't. If they are willing to force you to pick another champion they should be just as willing to use someone you have for them if they're first pick and don't want to face the champion you one trick. That said you should have something you can fall back on, but it's not fun to play your second choice if you wanna play your first choice. A lot of the time though someone bans my pick intent it isn't because they don't wanna risk facing it. It's because they don't want me to play it. In fact I think in the many times my pick intents have been banned, only one was because of fear of it being picked on the enemy team.

To everyone voting to not remove it, I ask you. How many times have you actually banned a pick intent for fear of the enemy team picking it, and when you did, did you communicate with your team? Because I almost never see it.

Pretty much every time a new champion comes out I ban them in ranked and explain it, telling them to practice in Normals first. You'd think that'd be common sense, (they don't have any practice, they're just hoping it's terribly unbalanced) but you still have kids who want to pretend like they one-trick that champ already and have no other option but to troll.

An explanation doesn't change anything even when offered.

As for how often my Xerath gets banned by my teammates, it's comparable to how often I have banned it myself. Completely insignificant. If you're really having a problem with your champion then either A) it's a common troll champion, B) it's an insanely frustrating champion that people see too often, or C) the champion was recently effected by a patch in a crazy OP way.

If all else fails, you always have the option to not hover your pick until after Bans. If the champion is still being banned a lot then it has nothing to do with you hovering it early.

PBE is open to everyone now, so I'm sure they've played enough of the champion to know how to play them most likely, and even if they haven't, don't play ranked for a week or two. I don't often have a problem with my pick intents, unless it's something that I want to play off meta when I'm feeling in the mood. In normal games especially 100% they shouldn't be able to ban pick intents, and JSYK in every normal game new champions are also usually banned. So even if you ban them, chances are the people who play them after your slew of bans have gotten maybe one to two games in on them. But if anyone bans my pick intent I'm going to play something they most likely will be angry about. I still try my hardest to win, and I don't just pick the worst possible choice imaginable. But they're not gonna be happy about the choice. And when I win my lane and they're losing theirs, it makes it that much sweeter. Honestly this is more of a protection for the people that want to ban pick intents than the ones who want to play their pick intents.

Uhm.

You've always been able to "decide this" for your teammate in draft modes.

Always. Forever. For as long as there have been bans. Yup. Even back then. Even when you're thinking of.

The only difference is that you can now declare. This, honestly, makes you MORE likely to get said high priority picks. There's nothing to fix here; there is no issue.

Just because something has always been one way does not mean that it should have to stay that way. In fact, if it’s wrong, that only means it’s been wrong a long time.

There’s no reason we can’t change this.

Even as a filthy Yasuo main, I agree with this, if im last pick hovering yasuo i hold no ill will if teammates ban it, i can pick well into him if the enemy picks him first, but i generally end up getting 2nd roam and if the enemy yas is good my botlane/top/jg could get boned, so I completely understand banning a teammates declared pick under certain circumstances.

Also all champs should be bannable in the ban phase, i mean thats just common sense.

Ifneth1 votes

True, but Yas gets banned a lot anyway. You must have something else ready. On the other hand, spitefully banning someone’s champ just to troll them, which is all I’ve ever seen happen, is usually not Yasuo.

For me it’s been his former student, Taliyah.

I get that, I do having trolls who ban peoples intended pick sucks. What they need to do is add a way to report from champ select. Also especially in ranked theres no shame in dodging at times like that, b/c best case scenario, the guy didnt believe in your ability to play that champ and someone who disrespects their team like that is probably going to be a liability in the match.

Ifneth1 votes

It also sticks with you and makes you worry. I had just recovered from last time when this happened.

a thread like this pops up like once a week, and every time the response is different. sometimes it gets upvoted, sometimes it gets downvote bombed

pretty much entirely up to the first person who votes, really

If someone is determined to troll pick, then they can just choose a different troll pick if you ban the one they intended, though.

NO.

I'd rather not be held hostage by a teammate threatening to lock in Sona and intentionally throw the match.

Ifneth1 votes

You do know that if you ban Sona, then they’ll just pick Katarina or whatever else, right? Being able to ban indicated picks doesn’t stop trolls.

Emmy Cha0s1 votes

I've never had a Katarina support do bad. As a matter of fact, they usually end up carrying the game.

I will gladly take a Katarina support over Sona any day of the week. Picking Sona is synonymous to intentional trolling/throwing.

Ifneth1 votes

The point is that they can pick anything else they want to troll-pick. Garen Support. Kled Support. Banning one won’t stop them from picking another.

Also, if they’re a Sona main, then you’ve just made them play on a less-comfortable champion.
