Wards: League's Best Kept Secret
Been leveling up a second account, and I couldn't bring myself to play more than one normal before level 26 because of what I witnessed. I literally did not see so much as one ward I didn't place myself. Bronze isn't much better, with maybe one support every four matches or so warding at least as much as anyone else could with a free trinket.
When I first began playing League, I was like those players, ignoring my friend's repeated advice of "ward, you fool!" I wasn't even aware what a ward was for the longest time because I don't even recall them being touched upon in the tutorials. The trinket is always recommended as a starter, but there was never anything telling me how and why to use it that I can remember. It wasn't until my friend started hounding me about it that I started to realize what this warding thing was about.
Now that I do, my standards are set so low that seeing my ADC use his trinket once or twice, or seeing anyone on my team place a pink, makes me about kiss their feet, I'm so gracious. I don't even care so much if the vision goes to waste, like when I'm top and my lane opponent roams down mid through a completely warded river, with me pinging MIA repeatedly, and my mid laner still dies. You can't fix stupid.
You can, however, at least get people to place wards. Have the tutorial remind you every time your trinket is off CD. Make sight stone a recommended item for Ashe instead of Thornmail in that one tutorial, because it's at least a better brand of stupid than buying an AA defense against a Nunu on an ADC. Put the upgraded trinket in the recommended items. Include wards (and CS, while we're at it) in the post game stats. Heck, make the upgraded trinket a mandatory upgrade at a certain level so you can't leave base without one if you have the gold. I don't care how Riot goes about it, how extreme they get with their measures, because there seem to exist players in every ELO who think warding is only for the support, when Riot introduced a ward cap specifallu to change that thinking.
Though all that did was make it so the supports who people are asking for more wards, because everyone still acts like it's their job alone, can't place enough wards any longer to make up for their idiot teammates. Something needs to change, and I don't care how.
