Taliyahs Q

After watching some videos with many people on the pbe playing her, I don't understand her Q. Riot said they wanted her to be a control mage, and her Q just seems like the complete opposite of something a control mage would have. She loses out on damage for staying in a zone she makes. Wouldn't it make more sense if she created much less of these zones, but they speed her up and slowed her enemies down. As her Q is right now it doesn't interact with the enemy at all, and that's what I don't like about it. If she had less zones that slowed the enemy down and sped her up (which would make perfect sense thematically because the earth is loose and enemy champions can't walk through it as efficiently, where as she can because she's an earth mage) then I think it would be better because it emphasizes her control theme while giving both sides something to consider and play around. It would also be more synergistic with her other abilities because with the slow it would be easier to combo her abilities together.

Thoughts?

She is a control mage in that she can make a large damage zone, as well, as a forced directional knockup. Having to reposition for maximum Q damage, not only makes her a little less oppressive in lane, (a 5 Q does considerable damage,) as well as giving her a chance at executing an enemy that is escaping.
