Why I think the direction riot is taking league is not the right direction

Recently I heard that the "view stats" tab was not broken, they just decided to make it so you can't view your stats. I don't know whether or not this is actually true, but I make this post under the assumption that this is true.

League has been getting more and more casual in season 6. Much more than ever before. First we give people free wins for doing bad, then we make dynamic queue to make the competitive environment feel less competitive, and now we make so players can't even view their stats with outside help. All this is done with the intention of making ranked a more casual place to get people to play it more often. They are essentially appealing to the people that want to play ranked, but can't handle the pressure of ranked. Appealing to casuals is a good thing and is why league is so much more popular than dota 2. However, the thing I was enjoyed about league was how it catered to BOTH very well. It had the casual feel and the competitive experience which is what kept everyone coming back. With all of these changes, I can't help but feel they are catering specifically to the casual side much more than the competitive side. Dynamic queue is fine, but we should have solo queue as well. Hiding our stats is simply ludicrous. It doesn't positively effect anyone other than the guy whose like "hurdur im gonna go play ranked", not to anyone who is playing ranked to actually compete and improve, because anyone that actually plays the game competitively will want to see their stats. Riot said themselves that ranked is where people go to test themselves, the guy with a casual mentality should be playing norms.... not ranked.

I know you could just go to a 3rd party site and see your stats but it's the principle behind why what I am upset about. It's along the same principle as to why they don't have ratios in the client as well. I remeber seeing a rioter response along the lines of "we provide the amount of information you need to have fun and understand the champion, for more advanced information you can go elsewhere." (not exact quote but it's the idea.) It's pretty sad when I have to go into a custom game and calculate aurelian sols ratios because I couldn't find them anywhere else... It's a slippery slope they are sliding down and it makes me wonder what information they will cloud up next because we can't be bothered trying to understand it. Will they take out numerical values on their items in game next? Will I have to buy a bf sword and see how much my ad goes up just to know how much ad a bf sword gives? Will I then have to post it to a website so that other people know how much ad a bf sword gives? This sounds ludicrous right? Almost as ludicrous as playing ranked but not being able to tell how well your doing right? They have done exactly this with many other things, it follows the same logic and to me they are already teetering a line that is starting to fall on the other side of casual. Which is sad to me because to me league had a great balance of casual and competitive before these changes. I have no idea why they are making these changes. Actually I do, the reasoning just makes me sad. [zombie-brand-facepalm]

That's a pretty big assumption. I strongly, strongly doubt this. A glitch from the buggy client is much more likely. This feature has broken in the past and it has been fixed. I see no reason why this time would be any different.

What are you referring to? I know of no game feature that does this.

In the future, consider using this. I know you said that you dislike doing this on principle, but it will save you a lot of work.

They haven't slid down anything on information presentation. Barring the glitched view stats, you have the same information available to you that you always have. I agree that they could and should provide more, but there hasn't been any change here.

I thought it was a glitch at first too, but the amount of time that its been glitched is starting to make me think otherwise. Hypothetically if it were true and the champion stats screen was being removed, would you think that this would be crossing a line or not?

My bad, the feature I am referring to is the one where it gives you a win in your next series if you fail the series before that one and are under plat elo.

Why can't they just have a tab that says "ratios" and then simply put this link there for each champion. I didn't think to check this site and was annoyed. And now I know and probably will check this site for ratios on new champs, but the thing that annoys me is that this information was not displayed to me. Some random person on the internet had to post me a link to this when I feel that riot should have been the ones showing me where to get this information.

It's a terrible client. Glitches last a long time because the client is inherently buggy. That's why they're working on making a new one, and I can guarantee you from the alpha testing on the PBE that it does still have this section.

They've also been having trouble with their API and the associated stat-gathering, and they've definitely been working to fix that, so I'm pretty certain that removing an option for viewing stats isn't the goal.

Hypothetically, it would be bad if they removed it, but I'm very confident that isn't the goal.

Ah, I see. I haven't really cared about that because it doesn't affect MMR and because I think the idea of promo series is a bad one to start with. At the end of the day, you really can just get unlucky for 2/3 games and get some games you can't really influence, and even if you're winning most of your games you can't increase in rank. That's poorly designed, and having a system to reduce the potential frustration of getting RNG screwed is perfectly acceptable to me.

Because it only gives a short-term boost to reduce frustration from RNG, and because it is compensated by lower LP gains due to your rank being slightly above your MMR, I think it's fine. If it actually granted MMR I'd be very unhappy with it, but right all all it does is take some of the impact out of a potentially frustrating system. People still get matched exactly the same as they would have if the feature didn't exist, so I'm cool with it.

Why can't they just have a tab that says "ratios" and then simply put this link there for each champion.

Yeah, that would be nice, wouldn't it? They really should have this, and it's definitely not good that they don't. I think the goal is to have this be available when they update the client. They've talked before about adding more information to the client when they can fix it but not wanting to do work for a client they're ultimately going to scrap. For now I'm working on the assumption that this is their eventual goal, although if it never comes I won't be particularly surprised.

Free wins are more often. One mistakes cost game, seems to not be as likely though.

Which though not specifically catering to casuals.

And minion changes op. XD.

They help out quite a lot.

Correct me if i am wrong but you basically want to bring back soloQ ranked (since the majority of competitiveness is in the individual, not a group of friends), but you also want to keep the current level of casual game play and enjoyment. So you also want to not deter players from still playing ranked as a group.
