STOP Saying you are carrying your team! #GET_EGO_OUT_OF_LOL

This might be me being PC but I think despite being called a carry this is a term that is being taken tooooooooooo literally. Rarely have I seen a match of evenly balanced players (no smurfs) where one guy could literally win by himself. Yet everyone (lots) acts like this is the case. Imagine that team help is ranked 0-100 and zero is tantamount to 1 v 5. You know this isn't going to turn into a vic for the 1. The only way this he or she could win is if there was an imbalance of skill.

"Carry" (strong air quotes) Scenarios:

  1. You are dominating your lane and your other lanes are holding.
  2. You are dominating your lane and the other lanes are slowly receding
  3. You are dominating your lane and the other lanes are slowly receding (you perceive them as totally failing)
  4. You are dominating your lane and the other lanes are TOTALLY FAILING. You LOST.
  5. You are dominating your lane and due to a skill imbalance on the other team they make no attempt to shut your lane down ALLOWING YOU to swoop into other lanes like JESUS!
  6. Jungler, You say you successfully double teamed someone and proceeded to go beast mode. I thought that was your job. Unless you did it as Naut.... yawn.
  7. Did I forget one? Eh...

I know a lot of people have the maturity to know the types of people I am talking about. All I am saying is if you think you are doing it alone. Don't come at me with anecdotes of a GOD game you had ONCE that falls into one of these categories. You Might be MVP but the quarterback would get killed with no linemen! There are so many trolls and people who don't give a damn, I am surprised how many people outside of diamond+ think they have an accurate assessment of their skill level. EVEN if you don't totally agree with how I look at things, you should be on board with my sentiment. Give props and honors. This ain't COD.

If I'm going to say I'm carrying, I'll at least thank my team for keeping me from dying in the process.

I have only met one player to yell out " you guys are awesome! You are peel masters!"

A bronze carry has all the kills and breaks their back and most of the time... loses...

A BETTER carry gives everyone else kills so they can share the wight together.

SEKAI2 votes

They should go Dota where 1v5s can actually happen if just so you were fed so hard the game simply no longer matters.

But they would most likely lose all their ego while just learning the ropes though, considering it's a full on new experience again and the fact Dota's player pool isn't anywhere better than League's so yer.

Occams Raiser1 votes

Some could stand to lose a lot of ego.

Shadow Gilgamesh2 votes

I dunno, I've been in games with 40/2 mids before and I'd say they carried us, but that's just me :x

Regardless of the scenario that led to one person contributing significantly more to the team, one person DID, and I'm FINE with them feeling good about it and vocalizing it. The only time I can't stand people yaking about carrying is when they have an average score, on a losing team and go "gg, team too trash to carry"

I am sitting on Silver 3, and guess what I am not particularly good at this game.

There pretty easy isn't it, Surprised?

Chessburger2 votes

I honestly think there's almost no difference between the skill lvls of bronze 3+ to s3. Gold has slightly better mechanics and map awareness/game sense but that's about it.

It's more dependent on the players attitude and the willingness to grind.

Occams Raiser1 votes

When I look at the player distribution in divisions you are probably right.

Chessburger1 votes

It is true from my perspective. I've been teaching a friend of mine in team builder vs gold - diamond opponents for 2 months. He was s5 last season, got mid bronze this season and is right now sporting a Silver 1 96 lp rank. His mechanics haven't changed much. I've mostly taught him how to control a game and win. He's learned to be more aware of what's happening, better understands matchups/team compositions and certain combos that are good to know on the champs he plays (+ the little tricks). And I've taught him consistency. That is the last key thing in gaining elo.

You can get at least low gold if you have intermediate bots lvl mechanics and good game knowledge + awareness. He actually got from s5 to almost g5 in the last 3 weeks. He gets trolls, he gets afks, he gets those "can't win games", he sometimes fails, but he's more or less consistent and is climbing fast.

It's just important to go at it 1 or 2 concepts at a time so it doesn't get overwhelming and confuse a player.

I don't think we are talking about the same thing. You say "no clue what you said about the topic". It looks like you have no clue. Did you just read the title or something?

  1. I love Teemo
  2. You didn't even carry your team to victory (unless you gave a motivating speech in chat) so this game has nothing to do with this tread.

carry, that is a physical movement if im so annoying to the enemy that none of them got fed if i have the most kills if i have the most assits i

"carried" that game thats what the word "carry" means

panteon i carried j4 i got carried by vayne/malz gp my team broke my back

you dont understand the term

the carry is the one with the most kills , at least tied for most assits, and turret count

more often then not all those factors are far above the rest of the teams. lol has a ego problem thats what your picking a fight with.

the word carry has nothing do with it. again the gp game i tried to carry my shit team i failed. i got all 3 turrets. i had nearly triple the kills compared to the second highest kill count of 6. i out classed my lane i out classed my team.

you are talking about players like this kalista and i qoute "my kalista isnt bad."

well sorry to rain on your parade but the enemy leo supp did 2k more damage pvp

enemy or ally supp damage > adc damage should never ever happen

COWmanLord1 votes

I know I have one friend who is a good person, but can be annoying as hell to play with because anytime he is ahead he starts going on about how much damage he is doing or how hard he is carrying.

A lot of people think that being fed/ahead = i'm carrying. It's more of a technical think in terms of definitions and stuff, but its kind of annoying when people get it wrong because when you say you carried someone else it sorta mitigates the other persons contribution.

Would be nice to get ego out of LoL.

It's not gonna happen though

Sir Fuzzi1 votes

the unfortunate problem is that we, the people who'll listen, don't need to hear this-- if you invest some thought, people who appear fuming mad and wholly egoist when playing LoL are probably in reality still teenagers. if they're not, that alone should speak a volume of the worth of lecturing them

the unfortunate thing is that the internet just removes the consequences for being a shitty person in a frame like this. they never need to improve their behavior, because they'll never quite meet the need.

EDIT: it's still very important to realize 'the carry' is a part of the team, but they are also just that-- a part. they cannot solo and nor can the team perform without them. it's five players for a reason.

as a tip, for all of LoL, the working world and probably just life in general, for everyone in this thread and anyone who happens to brush by this post

you can't fix stupid

Occams Raiser1 votes

We must let them know that is ok to think the way we do. 80\20 rule

Sir Fuzzi1 votes

for sure! I do my best to encourage teamwork and strong team play when I'm in-game, and a few effective routes I've found is to make personal requests-- IE, Champ X do this during the fights, Champ Y make sure this happens. it helps lend a sense of identity to their actions and if we're not playing to do well and flourish, are we really doing much of interest?

It's important not to let them impact your views or play or attitude-- they will always exist no matter how much we fight and try. what you have to do isn't prevent them from being idiots, but you have to prevent yourself and your teammates from being dragged down as much as you possibly can... myself, I choose to try to be a positive team influence and help with a little strategy here or there when I can.

tbf I play mostly only ARAM on account of toxicity being far less there. the frequency with which it occurs in ranked has scared me plum off of it for the time being, and ARAM is far more teamfight-based than other modes

BakedLotion1 votes

Actually, i've carried a game as lux once. I literally 1v5'd the enemies l0l Q snared two people, and my e and ult hit 4. I was fed as fuck, so they were all dead, and then i killed the last person a bit later

Trazz1 votes

I bet OP is the guy who has to be carried all the time.

alcatrazEscapee1 votes

I got invited to a game with a level 20 when I was gold V.

I played annie.

20 stacks on mejais, we had an afk, I could 1v4 their team, die, and then the other three members on my team could push 3v1. We stomped them so hard.

Spacesuit Spiff1 votes

Half the people in silver and bronze got carried in a mismatched game, and henceforth think their team is shit unless the same thing happens.

And yes, ego is the biggest problem with this game.

2pudge1cup1 votes

It's not elo hell.

It always has been and probably always will be ego hell.

We should make a movement and call it #GEOoL

Big Bang Bob1 votes

When you carry, everyone else is just a distraction. I don't often feed horribly, so whenever I lose, I think I didn't carry hard enough.

Of course I never say this out loud in game. Everyone who does that gets whooped.

JedenVojak1 votes

Ego is fine if it's justified. If you have one person on your team basically 1v5ing the other guys while the rest of your team run around like headless chickens, some gloaterry is fine.

If you have someone who did well in lane, but then comes out does stupid stuff and yells at his idiot team for not whatevering they needed to do for him to not die, then he's just one of those "it's never my fault I end every game 14-1-13 but I can't win because of stupid teammates" types.

In short, I'm okay with someone being a jackass as long as they have the skills to back it up.

I mean, that was basically what the entire show House was about.

Neverdweller1 votes

Um.. well when you solo a base while your team is pissing around in the jungle or trying to farm minions... or you ace a whole team with little to no help.. yeah.. you are carrying.. it isn't easy to 1v5 when your team mates are little more than a mild distraction, not carrying would be someone.. ANYONE helping you consistently to take objectives and defend the base. Maybe you just need to calm down and stop getting carried and do some yourself?

Hard Penetrator1 votes

I had a game once where I thought I was pretty much the best player on the both teams and I carry really hard. Then I watched replay (yes I felt so good about that game that I have watched replay just after the game) and to be honest I was average.

Bot was doing much better than I felt in game, jungler was always on spot with help and used his farm well. Support was doing a hell of a job, warding, rescuing adc and roaming like a boss, top died few times and I felt like he was feeding hard but he didn't actually fall behind his opponent and he was really useful from mid game onwards.

Our enemies were fantastic. Despite our good plays here and there they didn't get smashed but hold everything on their own and often turn things around with perfect plays, fluent combos or well timed sums/ults.

Now how I felt superior? Because in game you are really focused on your individual performance and its really hard to keep track of what is actually happening in the other lanes. You see mao died 3rd time, you don't really care he waste enemies 4 summoners, 2 ults and still got decent farm while keeping his tp to help bot.

That was my wake up call I hope some cocky players will have their own.

I was carrying my team

A real carry would help out other lanes.

Occams Raiser1 votes

I wonder if he knows we can see his match history.

Rrett1 votes

what if you're actually carrying the team?

I've hyper carried my team so many times by now, and if I didn't get 10kills in 12 minutes and ganked every lane 4 times we would have lost beyond hard.

Those games I did so well that I actually won us the game before 18 minutes a couple of times I also carried.

Nothing wrong with having an ego if it's well founded m8.

Occams Raiser1 votes

Somehow all the time you carry and you have yet to be properly placed among your peers in a division worthy of your skill? If you carry this much in rank you would have hit the wall where it stops happening. If you are just talking about random normals.... eh

Rrett1 votes

Well last season I actually stopped playing once I hit diamond.

The few games I did play in diamond I did extremely well and it wasn't uncommon for me to have 0 deaths.

I probably would have made it to d4 but the master tier introduction messed things up so I'd win 3 games and 1 loss would just take away the 3 wins. So the few games games in d5 didn't mean much anyways.

That being said from p5-d5 it only took me 50 games and a had a couple of +10 win streaks and one as high as 14. That's not exactly luck. Further more if you only count the games I seriously tried to climb I had a win rate of about 70% on veigar. Couple of games I also hard carried and we won pre 18 minutes a couple of times.

bruh I curried hard.

Skunt1 votes

People who carry are the ones who impact every aspect of the game. They get really fed and the HELP get the rest of their team fed. They don't even have to be fed, they just impact and help everyone else and the right people get fed. That's a proper carry.

Too many times I see people go "I'm 16/2/4 and we still lost because my bot/mid/jungle/top." If you gave some of those kills to your other teammates, you most likely would have won. A high k/d/a means nothing when that defeat screen comes up because the enemy only has to worry about one person who is fed, they focus you down and the rest of your team being gold starved is easy pickings.

Occams Raiser1 votes
