So Blizzard is adding Deathwing to HotS. How would his mechanics work in LoL?

Heroes of the Storm

It's official, they're finally adding in the famed black dragon. And oh boy, is he ever unique.

Deathwing has total immunity to crowd control (with one or two exceptions), but is also immune to allied effects (not sure if that includes healing). He's pretty much THE solo hero, and probably is expected to go off on his own and do his own thing in every match rather than fight with teammates since they can't buff him.

I imagine this would not translate well into League and would probably be deemed toxic gameplay, but let's humor the notion for a second. Could it be workable?

This should be Shyvana in dragon form so she can actually fucking MOVE and interact with the game.

They wouldn't. Being immune to friendly affects in League would not matter at all. In HotS, supports (actual supports) are integral to the teams.

I wanted Wrathion :/

As awesome as it is to hear about this (love HotS but still pissed at Blizzard), I don't really think this could work for League. HotS is a very specific MOBA that focuses on teamwork from the very beginning of the match and Deathwing is kind of an exception to being this super powerful SOLO character against the enemy but can't really benefit from the rest of the team.

In League, that would mean, in the case of picking Shyvana for example, she would just be extremely powerful in lane and possibly as a jungler. Her being immune to CC would probably cost a lot of her power budget as well, if we're still counting that, and so the rest of her kit is mediocre. Not to mention that League in most normal play is all about players fending for themselves, so there isn't really that much teamwork involved to begin with. There isn't really a payoff of making a character this powerful when the game isn't fully focused around working as a team a vast majority of the time.

Jorgmandr in SMITE also has CC immunity and he seems to be in an ok spot. Riot said they were exploring that direction with the new Volibear but now decided to change it. Maybe in a Shyvanna rework?

or rework Au Sol to do that since he is a THICC BOI, and he's been gutted with the new changes to him.

So basically Olaf but allies can't buff him?

I mean it would work pretty well, he would just be a split pusher.

Deathwing would be the ultimate split pusher. His team would seldom see him except for team fights where his sole job is to nuke the carry.

The devs did a stream to showcase his abilities, and he's actually incredibly very team dependent despite his "no healing/buffs from allies" rule.

all of his abilities are extremely slow, for example his Q is a channelled aoe firebreath which unlike diablo he can't rotate during the channel, meaning it's up to his team's crowd control to keep the enemy under the fire. They also have big windups and delays allowing every other solo laner (and high-mobility hero) in the game to move around him and outplay him massively. He also has one very short range dash as his only in-combat-escape mobility tool making him very unsafe from getting ganked when he's alone. He also has the largest hitbox in the game which further makes him very punishable for not having someone cover his weaknesses.

Pretty much the best way for him to actually consistently land those abilities, is he needs enemies to be inhibited by someone else.

He's also not that great as a solo pusher; he has to spend basically his entire energy bar to clear a single wave (which regenerates slower than normal energy bars) ,and his damage to structures is literally halved. The ideal way to play, is basically to focus on constant teamfight action.

Basically, you aren't going to be doing the murky/vikings thing where you avoid fights and do your own splitpushing while raking in that exp contribution, since that's the intended optimally designed method of contribution, you have to go fight and kill the enemy team (with your team). Which ideally means pairing up with good crowd control/tanks. So far, it seems the perfect teammate to fight with is thrall who's earthquake ult pairs excellently with deathwing's ult for a wombo combo.

In HotS it would be a good trade, but in LoL such thing is just problematic in many ways. First of all HotS doesn't have items, so unless your champ's talent system includes anti-CC measures you are pretty much vulnerable, in LoL every champion has access to such measures. HotS' supports mostly work as Enchanters in LoL, but in LoL allied effects aren't really that prevalent, therefore permanent CC immunity would be extremely busted.

Besides we already have champs with temporary built-in CC immunity. Just look at Olaf.

As Düff said, it might work as a shyvana ult. but as a permanent champ, it would be broken.

In HotS, indiduall champ power is overall lower as you can't get indiviuall gold/xp leads. It's also more focused on teamplay and the biggest reason is that ally affecting skills are a huge deal in HotS, so DW not beeing affected by those is a massive tradeoff for his raw power. In LoL, he would just splitpush, get a gold+xp lead to 1v5 and since most comps don't even have any skill affecting allies, he wouldn't have any downside for that...
