@Riot Are you willing to remove Hextech protobelt if it's problematic and the community asks for it?
Title.
Title.
Of course they will, after a year or so. Like they did with devourer.
well AS jungle items are broken since forever, feral flare saying hi
i'm just waiting for the next champ to abuse the new as jungle item and we'll wait another season for it to get changed/removed
if an item has to be reworked that many times, just remove it from the game
=D
Two years and a month, to be exact.
Granted I count both Feral Flare and Devourer as the same item, since the very first iteration of Devourer was in fact a copy-pasted Feral Flare.
If it does end up being problematic, it will be because of the damage, not the dash.
I was really not impressed with the dash. As a galio player, I'd of much preferred a better dash with sacrifice to damage. It pushes you like a foot forward.
If it is truely problematic, they should.
If the "community" just complains about it without the data backing up the claim, however..
A free dash including AP burst every 45 sec? What could be problematic??
People go nuts over a vayne tumble here. Cause that's about the range this dash gets you.
people go nuts over vayne tumble because its on a 2 second cooldown and makes you invisible for a whole second while ulted.
in case you havnt seen it in action, its not a flash suppliment. and feels a ton less impactful than it should (being a very slot inefficient item)
riot has almost been TOO careful with how this would impact the game. at first i thought. "oh god, its going to be like blink dagger" (a zero stat item that is must buy on every champ in dota that doesn't build force staff)
but no. its a tiny... slow... dash. its base damage wont increase your rotation damage because it doesnt have enough AP. if anything, they might need to buff it next patch to get people to buy it after they have tried it once.
outside of outliers (annie neeeding this item in some matchups, vlad getting everything he wants in 1 item) this item is utter garbage
I've seen videos of it late game dealing about 3/4 of a squishy's health when all the bolts hit. Imagine it on melee mages like fizz, Diana, or akali.
How many outliers are we willing to accept until we determine that the item is broken?
Cho doesn't need a dash to be long for it to be insane.
to be fair. anything with health and damage is good on any assassin. this less-so than most.
but i just remembered that fizz can use item actives during troll poll which was half the reason i loved wonky builds with hydra...
this item might actually be good on fizz
I don't think most people realize it will be garbage except on like, 2 champions.
They've said before that they're alright with removing/reworking the item if it turns out that it's problematic. Every Rioter I've seen who's commented on the Protobelt has said they find the item to be extremely dangerous, so it's likely we'll see prompt balancing if it's OP.
That being said, I don't think Protobelt is as OP as people are thinking it'll be. The dash is incredibly short and doesn't go through walls. The real reason the item might be broken is how much damage it does, but if a champion is making the most of Protobelt's burst, they're putting themselves into basically melee range. I don't think it can really be exploited by anyone except its intended recipients - low-range battle mages.

I've heard that one before. Not fooling me this time.

Hi
Have you seen the dash range, by any chance? It's absolutely abysmal compared to what those champions get on their normal abilities, and far slower. The damage might be a reason for them to buy it, but remember that Protobelt is less gold-efficient than the items they build normally and, in some cases, provides them with stats they don't want or need.
The mere fact that I have yet to hear any complaints from PBE players about the item speaks volumes as to the Protobelt's exploitability.
Because the PBE players always know their shit right? Remember rework Morde and Darius were deemed too weak in the PBE patch, see how that utterly fucked up Worlds 2015.
riot doesn't leave class updates on the PBE long enough. Riot changed the balancing for all the juggernauts 2 days before the patch came out so there was no time for the PBE players to give feedback on them. These kinds of class updates need 2 PBE cycles to test.
You mean when the community said they were too weak on release, so they patched Darius to make him OP? And when they complained about skarner without playing him and gave him a 65% win rate?
Yeah, all the PBE players fault.
Doesnt matter.
Mobility doesnt have diminishing returns, so the extra mobility doesnt go to waste.
And it doesnt have to be 1° buy.
Hi
ooohhhhh... now there's an idea...

Let's see
They are AP They cast spell They are low-ranged
Nothing to see.
Being fair, if Riot heeded the community's every complain to delete X thing from the game, there would 2 Champions and 3 items left in the game.
Hell, I remember I saw a thread yesterday complaining about Sion being too OP.
i saw one thread, a bit before the new skin release, warning that there'll be threads complaining about sion being too op
but i didnt see a thread about sion being too op, i dont think he is, maybe i'm just bad with him
Is Rengar still in game?
Than no, Riot doesn't remove stuff just because it is problematic and community asks for it.
Well there is a HUGE difference between a fully designed champion and an item the majority of players didn't want from the start.
rengar is bugged to shit why are you still bitching about him
finally, personally i prefer s4 nerfs that placed him in the crappiest tier of champ instead of bugged rengar
I promise I wont abuse it when its out

It literally is the shortest range 'dash' in the game. It almost feels like your champion just took a bigger step when you activate it. In terms of the active it actually seems a bit weak.
this question was answered when they first released it and a rioter (prob meddler) said they'd remove the item
if this was answered by RR i'd know it wouldnt happen
old quinn mains: "if we dont like quinndred new ult, will you change it?" RR: "sure" old quinn mains: 'we didnt like it' RR: "lol idc new players like it"
q execute didnt fit her kit, so he decided to go back and made a fk'd up version of her blind
R.I.P. Quinn And Valor
It's an incredibly risky item to allow in the game. It gives champions who are balanced around immobility, mobility. That's like if assassin's built ta.... oh wait....
It's a 300 range dash. I highly doubt it will be problematic.
oh you havent played vs a
yet before i see with it :)
she also had a rylise :')
Saw a Fizz with it. Now he can E and dash to get away. Imo it's problematic for certain champs.
"Remove" is a harsh word here, and downplays the job they really need to consider. The big question is if they are willing to replace it. Xyph's description of what this item is meant to do suggests his own mentality that this is the sole solution to a number of balance problems, and it seems to be more or less a keystone feature for bringing the mage changes together. It shouldn't stay in the game if it's unhealthy, but there will need to be further balancing and probably a nonhalf assed replacement to not end up just further gimping itemization.
look at how long it took them to remove infinite stacking and sated devourer from the game?
doubtful with this still existing and its recent history.
Aaaaand Riot's just like:
Never. I need my dash! Let me finally have my mobility fun!
Sure, maybe in 6 months a year.

I dunno, I tried it on Morgana (support) today. While it's cool effect and visual wise, it didn't seem so great. It's stats are incredibly low and the dash is very short. Like, it seemed much more broken but (at least on Morgana) it's really not necessary and has no place in her builds.
Yes, while they're doing that they're also removing dynamic Q and putting the tribunal back. Also santa claus is real.
oh god I gonna be a gravedigger, they should remove that item..batsh1t crazy dmg ~700dmg with 1 click? u serious?:) it's not dota >.<
Tbh they should still remove it. It's super useless and if they try to buff it it will become over used.
