Invisibility is the most problematic engage tool in League of Legends
Invisibility is the most problematic engagement tool in League of Legends. When you look at the other types of engage that are found in this game, none of them are even close to the reliability and efficacy of invisible engagement.
-
If you want to engage with a global, you have to either set up a team-wide play, or have knowledge of a pending opposing play.
-
If you want to engage with a skill shot, it requires you to have good aim and timing, an awareness of an opponents movement patterns, or vision control with a accurate estimation with your opponent's future map movements.
-
If you want to engage with speed, you have to control vision on and position your team correctly on the map to where the opposing team can't see that all 5 of you are together, before you get to within striking distance - ideally with most of their flashes down, all the while dodging incoming CC and slows.
-
If you want to engage with a teleport, you have to lure the opponent past a ward that you preemptively placed deep into enemy territory.
-
If you want to engage with stealth, you press your sweeper button (or just have a Duskblade in your inventory), then you press your invisibility button - then you instantly create the fight of your choice.
The threshold for creating fights in league is wildly simplistic for invisible champions, when compared to literally every other form of engagement found in the remaining roster. At times, it can be a binary decision that doesn't carry any risk, with virtually no counterplay available.
We need some kind of option to create a warning (a ward that actually works against invisible champions?) or at the very least some chance to react. When champions can get into their ideal kill range without any risk, what is the counterplay?
Can they be a shimmer instead of completely invisiblie? Can I get a reasonable chance to knock them out of stealth first? There needs to be some risk involved with a stealth engage, just like there is risk involved with literally every other type of engagement out there.
Invisible champions are getting initiative for free and without risk - it's incredibly frustrating to play against, and it feels unhealthy overall for a game that's based primarily on information and assessment. When players are just not given information, not due to their own ability, but due to the design of a champion, that feels incredibly unfair, especially when the counters to that design have all been removed from the game.
