Advice for a silver player?

I'd like to improve, I main taliyah and that's taught me some things like map awareness so i can make use of my ult, and the odd time i get top i'll mostly pick fiora since she's fun and if i fall behind i can build tank and still do damage cuz i'm fiora. But there are lots of areas in the game i know that i'm lacking in, and would like some tips and stuff to help improve. A question that just popped up is knowing when and how to freeze your lane when top, but anything would be much appreciated.

One of the easiest ways to get better at the game is to refine your basics.

1st. Maximize your CS: The best possible CS you can achieve if you're farming properly is alittle under the current match timer. Example: Your current match has lasted for 16:45 minutes so the rough area you'd be at if you were farming perfectly is around 160.

2nd. Learn that every mistake could've improved the game for you. Most people in the lower elo's will write off a missed ability or something as "Oh sure I guess I missed it but it didn't matter that much, right?". The answer is, yes it did matter. Practice on properly timing and landing your abilities and you'll notice that you do much better.

3rd. Learn when and where to ward. One noob trap that high elo players set is the "Just place more wards and you'll do great", but what they don't tell you is when to ward and how to ward. First off you should always pink a bush when you know the enemy won't spot you placing it, this'll increase the life span of the pink and give you more long term vision. Second, you're warding to catch the enemy jungler so placing wards in side bushes is great but if you know what side of the map he's on it's more effective to try and ward his jungle on that side rather than a ward in your side bush and catch him later than you could've.

4th. Learn to playback. Not all champions are required to constantly pressure their lane and look for kills. Sometimes you're honestly better off just comfortably farming your lane and getting in harass IF your opponent is in an easy position for it, but not hard trades.

5th. There's no reason for you to be pushed up. If you've just pushed a wave into the enemy turret what's the point of following that wave? Just walk back after it's gotten to that point and sit roughly at the mid section of your lane or further back. This will prevent so many un needed deaths from ganks.

Forgot to say about the CS tip but that's more or less a guideline. in most cases unless you're having the perfect game or have a super heavy wave clear champ you won't hold that standard but it's something to compare yourself to if you want to know how well your doing.

all right, good to know, so like 80 or 90 by the 10 minute mark would be considered great right?

Yes but if you fail to keep that up because you're getting pressured heavily in lane don't worry too much over it and just try to recover at some point.

I seriously need to sleep, but I can give a short rundown of lane freezing.

The main reason you wan't to freeze a lane is either when you are ahead, to set up a gank, or when you are behind.

When you are ahead in top lane, the enemy most likely will have to walk up to cs if you freeze, where you can get free damage on them. Otherwise they just miss cs and you are put farther ahead. If you want to be even more of an ass, freeze the lane and then stand in the enemy castor minions. That way you can quickly turn around whenever you need to last hit, and the enemy can't even get close enough for xp for fear of you all ining or getting damage off.

To set up a gank you just want to freeze lane (or have it push towards you) so that they are farther from their tower.

When you are behind, it's situational. Sometimes you wan't to push so that you can roam and be back by the time the minion wave gets to your tower, but other times you want to freeze and push back and forth so that the wave sits just outside your tower, so that you are safe.

My main is KANY3 EUWEST (I main top/mid Riven) - if you want me to look at some replays and give you some tips I would be up for doing that.

Freezing is good if your opponent cannot fight you and you can punish them for trying to farm. This leaves them open to being solo killed for trying to farm and open to ganks. The only time you don't really want to freeze if you're able is if you're about to roam. If you have time set up a crash wave. Zone them off the minions and kill one melee fast and the other two medium speed, then last hit the casters and the entire next wave fast. This should cause a wave and a half to crash into their tower leaving you plenty of time to TP or roam down mid.
