They nerfed every mage with high mana costs. Except Ahri, she got a compensation buff.

This. Lux, Ziggs, Syndra, etc. All of them burn out too much in early-to-mid game. Annie, however, can spam her Q infinitely as long as she last-hits with it.

Only thing keeping Karthus out at the moment is his fragility and lack of hard CC to compensate for his low mobility.

Annie has always been incredible. Annie is probably the only champ I know of that has been viable and balanced for as long as League has existed. She's been tweaked here and there, but only in the slightest.
