Given all the flak Akali, Katarina, etc. are getting, Riot, are you steering away from hybrids?

With Guinsoo's Rageblade being removed, people complaining continuously about Akali and Katarina, and the lack of hybrid item options, can we assume that hybrid AD/AP Champions are a flawed concept? If so, what will you do to correct that?

None of the complaints commonly raised against akali or kat really have to do with them being hybrid, so much as them being able to deal tons of burst damage with resets and high mobility. I don't generally have issues with them, but people who underestimate their burst and let them get the resets can get understandably frustrated.

As for hybrid champs as a whole, that is a huge can of worms, but it basically boils down to most hybrid champs don't build hybrid, they just build the one damage type that best suits their kit. Akali and kat usually build full ap (plus gunblade sometimes) because their kits work best in burst combos. Jax usually builds AD over AP because his half of hit kit stems around getting in as many autoattacks as possible. Even champions like Evelynn who can build hybrid and do well will benefit more from focusing on a singular damage stat, just because AD and AP have stats that multiply their effectiveness (crit and AS/CDR and rabadon's passive) but they don't scale off of each other.

So hybrid champions aren't bad by any means, but the current state of the game makes specialization more powerful than versatility.

These champs (like almost all) are highly vulnerable to CC, which every team SHOULD have. Obviously you don't HAVE to have CC, but the likelihood of you not having CC is low and doesn't favor your team at all. People complaining about this are not thinking about team composition properly/at all.

Black Shield

not a relevant point as any team could have that, sorry.

My point was that when people would argue that CC can shut down high burst champions such as Katarina or Akali, an obvious and effective counterpoint would be the black shield, which represents that CCs can in fact be countered or mitigated as well.

Its true that any team can have a Morgana, but any team can also have a Katarina. When Katarina receive a form of CC immunity, the argument to CC her is null.

that's called synergy, and has nothing to do with kat HERSELF. it'd be like complaining of rengar's stealth being broken because he can get ori balled + ulted. The problem isn't with his stealth, it's with the synergy. Therefore, you can counter-argue that the synergy is too strong, but it's irrelevant to the discussion of kat persay.

Hybrid champions do work. Hybrid build paths however, don't.

Varus' is a good designed hybrid champion, so is Jax, Shyvana as well.

The problem with Assassins is that they have tools to get around your CC, CCing Katarina is pretty fucking hard specially when good Assassin players wait that every CC is used before going in.

Akali on the other hand just snowballs so hard out of a few kills she loses any counterplay she would possibly have.

still complaining about akali, huh? sigh.

Is it just me or after Akali's initial ult don't you just kill her? Obviously this relies on you CCing her and survivng the first burst, but there's Banshees...make you dying from the initial burst unlikely...

Well those aren't really hybrid champs, but champs with some hybrid scalings. That being said, it does look like Riot is phasing out hybrid champs/items. Likely due to a lack of interest and difficulty in balancing such builds (think 6 item hybrid Jax 9_9 )
