Yasuo's ult isn't hindered by activating with a knockup

This is not a thread complaining about Yasuo, this is not about whining about losing to a Yasuo, those coming for a thread like that, type up 'Yasuo' into the searchbar, you'll find something. All this is is a thread attempting to correct a huge misconception people have about Yasuo's ult.

People often times like to talk about how Yasuo's ult is incredibly hindered by needing a knock up to activate, this would truly be a hindrance if he didn't HAVE a knock up in his kit, this isn't like Kalista who's screwed out of an ultimate if her oathsworn DC's, Yasuo doesn't need someone on his team to have a knock up in order to even use his ult, it gives him more opportunities to use his ult on someone than a lot of other champs.

Imagine if Ashe's ult could home in on any champion so long as they had a slow applied to them, what if Cho'gath could instantly gap close and ult someone if they got silenced. Even if you made it so both of their ults only worked when those respective types of CC's were applied to someone, I don't think anyone would say they are weaker for having the additional ability to automatically use their ult on an enemy just from having an ally apply a form of CC.

You can argue that in order to use his ult himself he needs to land a skillshot with his third Q, but it has never and WILL NEVER be weaker for being activated by knock ups so long as Yasuo has a knock up of his own.

they're not weaker at all if no one has knockups, they only get stronger if the team has them.

Exactly.

His ult might as well be his Q's skill shot. Its just like any other ult skill shot, except if he misses his Q he doesn't lose his ult like any other ult skill shot.

For your Cho'Gath and Ashe examples to work, they'd need to 1. Have a stacking mechanic tied to their cc and 2. Not be able to use their ults otherwise.

For Ashe, imagine if her AAs didn't slow until she activated Q, and she couldn't ult unless there was a slowed target on her screen. In exchange, her ult is now a homing unblockable ability. Even then it would be easier than Yas's ult since slows are much more prolific and easier to apply than knock-ups.

For Cho silences are so rare in this game that he's a useless example. Imagine instead that he could only ult knocked-up enemies. Without a knocked-up enemy on the screen he can't ult. In exchange, his ult now gapcloses for him.

If you're going to make equivalencies, don't make them false.

Yes they do, lots of people will say when they talk about his weaknesses, "His ult can only be activated with a knock up" as if that means it's weaker for it.

Well it's certainly weaker than if it needed nothing. That doesn't mean it isn't strong, though.

However, what it does mean, is that almost anyone in the game can beat Yasuo in a 1v1 if you don't let him get his R off. He can only ult if he gets a knock up, thus if he doesn't knock you up, he literally has no ult, while you do.

At least, that's what I mean.

That's the issue though, the wording is what causes this misconception, it's not "It can only activate on a knock up" it's, "It can activate when Yasuo or any of his allies knock up an enemy"

And since Yasuo HAS a way to knock up enemies on his own, it essentially means that his third Q is no different than any other skillshot reliant ultimate like Lux's, Sona's, Sejuani's, or Nami's. If there IS a downside to it it's that he has no way to instantly activate his ult, needing to get his third Q in order to use it. Would you say that Nami literally has no ultimate if it doesn't hit anyone? No, you say that she missed her skillshot or the enemy team dodged it, the same as if Yasuo missed his third Q.

Yeah, well saying "Yasuo missed his ult" just sounds weird, even if it makes sense in that context.
