Reminder : the trade-off of being ranged is having less mobility and less damage

No the trade off for being ranged is having less defensive stats. Not necessarily less damage or immobile..
well, ranged adcs in no way have a lack of damage and mobility, but they do tend to have less damage than melees. doesn't mean they don't melt champs just as well anyway.
generally their weakness (far as i can tell) is that they have less CC, utility, and defenses, and don't enjoy nearly as many passive benefits as melee fighters.
melee ADs on the other hand tend to have many ways to ignore armor, as well as built in AD, crit, and attack speed boosts, and many times have free defenses thrown in as well.
on the other hand, ranged AD champs just generally don't get big stat boosts like that jhin is somewhat of an exception, but that's just because of his weird attack paradigm, and it doesn't usually amount to insane DPS numbers over other ADCs. that being said his movement speed boost is satanic
Because they give assassins a reason to exist.
