Maybe, but it does get annoying when the Hyper carry is picked last, into a team that would otherwise need to bully. If I ended up playing first pick Nidalee Jungle, I would likely have trouble translating that into a protect the carry comp. And the fact that the hybrid damage/defense champs, tend to be pretty good a bulling out tanks, and that would put true protect the carry comps on the back foot.

Nah lategame scaling seems to be a self inducing ebola aids strategy right now
I mean if you cant contest anythign and they get fire drakes your fucked since they will now outscale you regardless
Other drakes are still good too but picking purely for lategame is sucha big gamble since snowballing is still out of controll its a pretty dumb strategy
only azir is good for lategame now
If this was the case, I would have guessed that Neutral objective focused champs would be meta, but that really isn't the case. The like of Nunu, Kindred, Kalista, anyone who can take down and secure objectives quickly should be good. but the Imbalance of Dragons means that picking such a comp is risky.
speaking of Neutral objectives, I think the changes to Rift Herald are part of the reason why split push champions are coming back into the meta. The pro's seem to make effective use of that small, but long lasting buff, and it seems to have the best effect on a splitpusher. Even though that buff would be less noticeable in yoloQ.
