When is the last time you have seen a Shen in one of your Games?

Earl Eulrich··8 votes·2,018 views

I for one can´t remember a single shen picked in a serious game since quite a long while...

I think it´s apparent he direly needs some buffs/major changes. He´s neither very tanky nor does he deal any sort of dmg currently, and the ult doesn´t make up for that vs slightly organized teams. And the only thing he brings to a fight has a ludicrously small hitbox nowadays, making it almost impossible to find a situation for a multi-champion-taunt...leaving Shen completely energy-starved for most of the fights.

If you think the Global-Ult is too powerfull to make the rest of his kit strong...just remove it, restrict the range finally but give him some direly needed strenghts and depth appart from his Ultimate. It´s just sad to see him in this state.

Personally I feel like he could be fixed if they did like 3 small things.

  1. Make his taunt hit box bigger, it's ridiculously small right now and the animation is so misleading.
  2. Either lower his energy costs or bring up his energy regen, he's almost always out of energy to do stuff.
  3. Make Shen's shield scale with hp or armor/magic resist. Doesn't have to be big scalings, just enough so it's not worthless.

and then ur back to s2/S3 shen in higher elos, the perma pick/ban splitpusher... With his Global port ult, every straight buff would probably return that.

Therfore i'd like to see a rework of his ult that allows to put more power in his base-kit(mostly reverting the passive+E nerfs and reducing Es energy costs)

Shens energy regen sucks :P

As an adc main I've had a couple shen supports in the last 3 months. Not common but I love when it happens, because they've been really good supports (it seems that off meta support picks who actually behave like a support typically are very good players). I agree that he could use some small buffs though. add some tankiness to an ability or something (maybe let him absorb a couple tower shots or something, make him a good tower diver / good at tanking towers without minions).

Yea, I really think support is actually his best role atm - he just doesn´t scale well enough as a sololane and as support he´s more free to use his ult whenever without trading much lanepressure for it. Early on he has a lot of kill-pressure, but if you can´t snowball your early game he´ll just drop a lot after the laning-phase. So Leona is still the better support for a killane-tank in most cases. I really would want for him to offer sth. besides his ultimate as an argument for picking him though (especially as most well-coordinated teams know how to play around it anyway), even if that means taking some power from his ult eventually.

Support Shen is mostly a sustain support that can't be engaged on. That's the advantage to playing him. You outlane champions like Thresh, Leona, and Braum without ever being at risk of dying to their all-ins. Furthermore as you stated, split pushing as Support Shen works better when you don't sacrifice a pick slot for a champion that is terrible at 1v1ing, as it allows your team to have a support champion that is able to gain levels faster than usual.

He could use buffs especially because lategame his energy costs are REALLY LAME which prevents CDR from being good on him without energy runes.

Totally agree. At support, he's almost an even more team-oriented Leona. Shen is not fun to deal with in the bottom lane, especially against slower ADCs.

Shen: screwing over adc's since season 3.

Anyone else tired of seeing so many apostrophes when there needn't be one?

Whoa. I played Shen top last month, and as support last week. he's still fun, he just lacks impact.

Just played as Shen. Q and W don't feel good unless you build AP, but that makes you a really bad tank. I think he just wants to go in two different directions at once.

Well he is a splitpusher.

YouLostMe1 votes

W and E feel pretty bad when you splitpush, though. But I agree that he's best-played as a sunfire splitpusher.

I don't think that Shen is bad or weak... just insanely boring to play as. Both his Q and his W lack any impact whatsoever. I don't feel good about using them.

HigeR2 votes

I tried shen support... wasn't really that bad O.o I mean... you have a taunt and your Q heals your ADC and your Q damage can poke nice, plus your passive can hurt some too O.o

I managed to fix my adc some kills under tower but the main problem would be Shen's ult, it's awesome to cover someone but its cd is just too high to be useful and to be honest that's pretty much your only support skill in a teamfight... your taunt can be useful but if you taunt 5 enemies you'll probably run into trouble since Shen is tanky but not so tanky as to manage ALL the aggro ._.

So yeah Shen is a fun support but I wouldn't bet on it xD he needs changes but I wonder if those changes would focus on making him a better tank or reworking his whole role into something else, I mean he's a ninja tank? weird...

Aside from my friends (and myself), a very long time. I love the dude, I just wish he could do something more useful after winning a lane (as Shen doesn't particularly win or lose lane in most matchups).

TehNACHO1 votes

Huh.

Conveniently, I just happened to play Shen recently. Did relatively well and everything. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1560566575/214360882

Honestly, the only problem I see is that he's a 'team based' champion. I happened to be playing with my friends on Skype at the time and they like to scream whenever they're in danger, making my ultimate a thousand times more useful than usual. On the other hand, I'd probably never willingly play Shen in a solo queue environment, both because my performance is hindered by a lack of being able to react to my teammates, and because his super long cool down on his ult will make too many self centered solo queue players yell at me for not saving them without realizing I already did so 'just 30 seconds ago'.

Pryotra1 votes

I don't play too much top lane now-adays, but when I did, and I chose shen, I remember the cure for this was to call out your ult cd at 30s increments. That way, you could just respond with, "still X seconds on cd bro." and it would be k.

As for reacting to your team I found the portraits to be insanely helpful, both with using the ult, but looking quick at a glance to see where my lanes were at. Also, asking your team to ping for ults would help post 6, but don't let that be the only times you ult.

TehNACHO1 votes

Ahh, no, you misunderstand. It's not that I think he's impossible or even hard to play in solo queue, it's just extremely inconvenient.

And that's my point, if you have to justify the usage of your ult by constantly reminding your teammates, or you have to go out of your way to keep your eyes on more elements of the screen virtually at all times (while your ult is up), it's inconvenient to use Shen in a solo queue environment and simply makes me not want to play him.

Pryotra1 votes

I get what you are saying. Some champions are just like that. Ezreal or Ashe, for example, need to look at the whole map when their ult is up for epic snipes, while the whole "my ult isn't up yet, wait for it" is no where near unique to shen, though that crowd has been thinning for some time.

TehNACHO1 votes

Yep. The especially sad thing is Shen has to deal with both problems to some extent 100% of the time after level 6.

Inconvenient solo queue champ, that's just what Shen is.

Im no Shen expert, but it seems like he might be one of those tanks with really poor initiation. Most tanks around have a good gap close plus cc, and the champs without a lot of it can be really unsatisfying, especially when your behind. I dont play Shen, but i feel this way when i dont get really ahead with Taric.

An idea for his sheild, which would make him unique is giving it a 10% missing hp and 10% current hp scaling. Im probably being an idiot here however when it comes to math :p Math was never my strong point. But some sort of scaling with missing or current hp.

Shen should have some other form of attack damage apart from his passive and q. Some champions can deal damage with all thier abilities including passive and other tanks can dish out way more than shen. This kit is keeping shen the same way he is only thing giving his W some small Aoe which can only be activated given the circumstances, making him more situational and help with waveclearing, slightly increasing the damage and cost on his poke; making him more aware of expending energy, reducing the cost and scaling on the shield, seeing in it's picture all shen does is cross his hands, as a bruiser it shouldn't absorb to much but at the same time shouldn't cost so much. Slightly decreasing the damage of Shadow Dash at earlier lvls and energy cost over lvls and adding a small healing factor to it depending on the damage and amount of enemies hit. You'll find that in this kit shen will still have energy consumption problems which is good forcing summoner to spend IP in energy runes. Everything I have in brackets are changes i can live without, everthing else are things I want desperately..

Riot I guarantee if you make these changes, summoner's who love shen will leave you alone, and he will not be op, in addition i think you can add 7hp and 1 armor to his base stats, that would be very nice :)

Passive- Ki Strike [Unchanged] but in addition shen takes 10% reduced total damage from critical strikes and or shen gains 0.10 magic resist upon killing enemy unit, 0.50 if champion.

Vorpal Blade- Cost 65 energy. Deals 65/105 /145 /185 /225 +65% AP scaling. (Range increased to 500 from 475). Healing values untouched. If shen dashes to a target marked with Vorpal Blade the cooldown of shadow dash is reduced by 2 seconds .

Feint- Cost 40 energy. Absorbs 60/100/140/180/220 +40% AP scaling and 1/2/3/4/5 every 5% health missing. (Basic attacks on shield reduce the attacker's attack speed by 5% for 3 seconds). After the shield breaks for 3 seconds shen is able to cast Crescent Slash damaging all targets in front of him [work on minions and monsters as well as champions].

Crescent Slash- Cost 25 energy. Deals 50% of the shield as magic damage in a 115 degree cone with a range of 300 slowing enemies hit by 10% for 1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds. Damaging a target marked with Vorpal Blade will consume the mark and cause them to bleed for the same values of the heal on vorpal blade.

Shadow Dash- Cost 120/115/110/105/100 energy. Deals 20/40/60/80/100 +100% AP scaling as true damage. Shen is healed for 10% of the damage dealt per target hit. (Increase the Hitbox on the taunt). Taunt duration increased to 1.75 seconds from 1.50 seconds.

Stand United- Unchanged [No complaints here!]

Everyone who agrees with my changes share this everywhere because i really want riot to change shen's kit :)

sincerely, another Shen player Shen
