Yorick Rework Feedback - How to satisfy dedicated Yorick players:

Hemulen Magi··13 votes·1,945 views

I will keep this simple. Here is a list of aspects of the current Yorick that must be kept in any rework that will satisfy his dedicated playerbase.

  1. Ghouls - He absolutely needs to summon a variety of themed ghouls. The summoning mechanic can be different and the primary ability cast effects on QWE could be different, but the ghouls need to be included in his kit in a major way. Ideally, they will also keep the horses of the apocalypse naming theme on abilities.

  2. Brawn - To quote his original development diary: "Yorick isn't some frail, weak Necromancer that just commands minions though - he's a burly fighter who can dish out punishment on his own. This was done primarily to make his play more consistent (as frail summoners typically have really binary PvP gameplay on if their minions are up or not). Yorick can get into a fight and go toe-to-toe with enemies while commanding an ever-changing army of undead Ghouls." Don't homogenize Yorick because of outdated feedback from the 2011 release - we have enough summoner mages now with Azir's release and Malzahar's mini-rework putting emphasis on Voidlings. Keeping Yorick as a minion-summoning fighter is good and adds something unique to the game.

  3. Supportive Utility - Yorick is the only Primary: Juggernaut + Secondary: Enchanter champion in the game. Yorick's ultimate, Omen of Death, gives Yorick a unique supportive niche among juggernauts by allowing him to revive/clone a fellow teammate in a fight. The misconception that Yorick "wins lanes but loses games" stems from selfish players that refuse to transition into an unselfish (yet, in my opinion, extremely rewarding) role for their team lategame. Dedicated Yoricks know that they can provide the most value for their team in a lategame situation by serving as a beefy front-line for their team while ulting a fed mid/bot carry.

  4. Flexibility - Yorick's current kit offers him a lot of flexibility to thrive in multiple roles and playstyles. Top Lane: He is a fairly strong splitpusher and duelist, especially with a self-cast revenant. His QWE is also similar to Darius's QWE, which makes him a fairly strong bully against many top-lane match-ups. Jungle: His high sustain with ghouls tanking camps allows him to clear effectively, deter counter-junglers, secure early objectives, and gank often (though the ganks rely on opportunities to flank). Support: Sustain from Relic Shield + Omen of Famine lets Yorick shrug off a lot of harassment from the enemy laners, while his own poke lets him fight back. After level 6, Omen of Death lets him clone his (hopefully) fed ADC to help take down turrets, dragons, and win fights. The ultimate revive also provides a pseudo-Zilean-ult that can make a big impact in a teamfight.

Keeping him away from the frail necromancer thematic is a cool idea imo.

I agree. The a necromantic brawler seems much more unique in creative for the game. Also, shattering skulls with a shovel is too sweet.

let me add some more insight to this. i used to main yorick as a support back in season 4 (its all on lolking) haven't played him much these days but here is what i feel holds him back the most.

his E, more importantly the fact that he heals deals damage and pokes from range making him "too safe" for laning phase. and there is not any real counterplay to this.

personally maybe this should come back as a aoe skill shot like his W but without the heal and replace it with something else like his speed buff from Q and then give him a heal on a melee type ability

you know to give him counterplay.

tl;dr he needs more counterplay. "from a semi yorick main"

IIRC, Riot wants to keep the ''Both a Necromancer and a nasty shovel slapper''. I don't think you have to be afraid of him losing either of those.

Yep, that's good news and Yorick players will hold them to that.

I would never call myself a Yorick main, but I do enjoy him every now and then. I'm really hyped to see what Riot'll come up with.

I am hopeful, but also anxious about it. There have been good reworks and there have been bad reworks. Riot and the playerbase want reworks to be successes, yet somehow stuff like Mordekaiser's mini-rework forcing him into bot-lane still happens... I think it can be hard to get a rework correct, especially if the developer doesn't have a history playing the champion they are working on. Hopefully, good feedback will help them avoid alienating the existing Yorick playerbase.

His ult needs to change, it's an amazing ult, but it doesn't fit his theme well enough of being an army commander.

I disagree - the revenant is actually the minion within his undead army that Yorick has the most direct control over. The revenant is actually a second champion that Yorick players directly command during fights.

I agree with you that it is an amazing ability. I disagree that it doesn't fit with Yorick's theme. I think the ultimate is a defining part of Yorick's theme.

Should I buy Yorick? He's seemed cool but wasn't on the wheel. Now that I know more about him he seems really cool.

Question: If he ults a Nautillus would the revenant's basic attacks root too? And do Revanants use spells?

Sooooo what you're essentially saying is that Yorick will be a brand new champion to everyone, because there's no such thing as a Yorick main.

I disagree. Although there are a few, there are many more people who just simply enjoy Yorick, such as me.

The main problem with Yorick is that juggernauts generally have pretty poor range, but Yorick does not. I imagine some of his range will need to be shaved off in order to keep him bound to AD/Health.

Hopefully his mana costs are allieviated by the rework.

Honestly, I think that this is exactly why Yorick's rework has taken so long. He has a unique playstyle and theme that is hard to balance in game.

As has been stated, I don't think you have to be too worried about points 1, 2, and 4, although point 3 might be a tricky one. The problem with Yorick at the moment is that he has all the early-game power of a juggernaut with the teamfight swinging potential of an enchanter on his ultimate. I think it's a good idea to keep him as an enchanter, but his current ult is very strange to balance since its value is incredibly swingy from game to game.

All in all, I hope the rework, whenever it happens, is a success in your eyes!

His ghoul hitboxes need to be fixed ^_^"

Hemulen Magi2 votes

This is true. The hitboxes are quite small and many people do not know to use attack-move.

Rito Staff1 votes

May not be directed to me but I do use 'a' to attack XD and still it seems i cant hit them. Well whatever comes out I hope it's not obnoxious to play against :p

Does the revenNt attack? Or only once they revive can the revanaent attack?

The Last Ballad2 votes

The reverent attacks with copied stats of the person they are imitating, so ulting a jinx to take down a tower would be wonderful, or ulting a Sol during a chaotic teamfight would allow for even more deadly stars, etc... Think of it like a Mord ult, but for your team. If the ally dies while under the revenants shadow, they are revived for 10 seconds, as if they were zil ulted, then dealt 100000 true damage(to ensure death), so once you are ulted by a Yorick and if you die, suicide into their team. If you don't, continue living as normal.

Arakadia2 votes

That is so sick. I want to buy Yorick now xD.

I don't even play or own Yorick and I agree with you.

I agree with all of the OP's points. As far as Yorick being very 'brawn', I think his resilience and strengths need to not be inherent, but rather derive from the presence of ghouls. They need to be able to serve him in more than just a mindless meatshield-distraction sort of way. Whether they are summoned through a skill of some kind or a passive timer, his ghouls ought to each provide a unique buff to Yorick while up and active, be that be sustain, defense, health, attack, redirected damage, etc. I want to see Yorick be very strong and brawny when they are up, but then become that "frail, weak Necromancer" when the ghouls are eliminated, whether through the use of skills or being killed by enemies. When they die, they take with them the buffs that they offer, severely crippling Yorick. The dueling situation would be comparable to fighting Heimerdinger under his turrets. Kill the champion's turrets/ghouls, and the champion is much more manageable. This would create a good balance in Yorick being strong, but counterable. I really like that you mentioned his potential utility! Many people keep suggesting to change Yorick's ultimate to something like a mass ghoul summon, which I find incredibly dull. His capacity to create a scenario of vengeance after death is very much in line with his whole theme as a grave digger obsessed with not being forgotten. I'd love to see this be preserved somehow.
