dear riot, i fixed your smurfing problem.

vampirekid13··2 votes·1,040 views

i woke up in a particularly bad mood this morning, and in my infinite moodiness i was thinking of good ways to make other people equally miserable as i am monday morning at 7 am.

i mixed that hatred with my hatred for smurfs accounts and in my infinite hate spiral i came up with a ridiculously funny idea.

so we all know riot knows which accounts are smurfs. they confirmed they know this a while back.

so why not do this, once you know an account is a smurf account team him up only with smurf accounts (this is currently in place, i know) so when a smurf account queues up for a game, all of his team mates are smurf accounts.

now take this team of all smurf accounts, and make their enemies be a team of all level 30 accounts.

so once you detect a smurf account (you already detect them, so no work to be done here), you team them up together (the smurf accounts, this is currently already being done as in smurf accounts are being only teamed up with smurf accounts, no work to be done here) and make their enemies be a team of all level 30s (a little tweak to matchmaking for this).

please riot, i think it would be hilarious.

This generally already happens but there aren't enough people to always be vs other smurfs.

this does not happen. what happens now is that a smurf gets placed in a team of smurfs, which then gets placed against a team of smurfs roughly his level.

i am saying take the team of smurfs, and place them against level 30 accounts.

so you have on one side of the map a team of leve 10 account smurfs, and on the other side of the map a team of 5 level 30s fighting against the level 10s.

I've had a few smurfs, I used them when playing with new players and from what I can see a lot of others there do as well. I think as a general rule when doing so you should try to be nice or at least neutral, also see if you can pick up a few new players and help them out on your way also don't tryhard. Without them new players wouldn't have PVP though, I'm sure of it.

That would be unfair as lvl 10s dont have full masteries or runes.

yes, you know what else is unfair? a diamond player playing on a level 1-29 account.

regardless of matchmaking.

Except that diamonds are 1% of the player base so you want to fuck the other 99% of the player base in order to screw over that 1%?

hi, i copy pasted one of my replies from the EUW forums, since this thread is on both NA and EUW. i hope this correctly addresses your concerns.

smurfs exist to abuse a loophole in the system. and should really not exist. i have a smurf account. its stacked with aram champions to wreck in aram. that is abusive and i dont think this type of behavior should be condoned. i made the account because i have the freedom to do so, but i dont think i or anyone else should.

what do you use a smurf for?

-avoiding 30 min queues because you're diamond in this case you are already not playing against people your level and are likely stomping people, which is just as bad as a level 30 stomping you.

-avoiding a perma ban i dont even need to explain why this should not be viable

-stack it with lux, nidalee, yi, teemo, and other aram champs to win arams which is abusive as fk and should be punished.

you want to play with friends? you can. play normal draft, or blind pick, or aram. you want to play ranked? play solo or with equal skill friends. if you smurf to queue up with your best friend in ranked you are actually boosting him, which is illegal anyway.

so there are no actual reasoning for smurf accounts to be allowed at all.

From a balance/ playerbase health stand point that has alot of valid points. But from a company perspective getting rid of smurfs means getting rid of potential paying customers which means less $ so it is never going to happen.

Also this didn't address the fact that your trying to completely fuck over all smurfs to hit the 1% of smurfs that cause problems with actual game balance.

I obviously dont have any actual numbers to back this next claim up but i would say its pretty safe that a large portion of smurfs are people avoiding the perma bans, which is mostly bronze or silver level players, who really arent all that much better players than actual new players.

oh, dont worry, you dont need numbers, i can accept your point without 100% accurate numbers. i understand what you are saying, very few are diamonds. but i dont want to hit just diamonds. i want to hit people ban evading, and people that are higher skill level, and people that want to make accounts just to wreck aram.

that i would say cover about 99% of smurfs. the only smurfs that i would incorrectly hit are smurfs that are a higher level player learning a new lane he has never played, like if a plat player that mains jungle and mid starts playing top and sucks so he does it on a smurf to learn the lane. but thats very rare that its the case, and i think smurfing shouldnt be the best option for those types of players, i think maybe matchmaking should give you MMR per Lane and your total MMR is the average between lanes you play.

Nope. Skill is not unfair advantage. Base stats of your champion however is.

then why do ppl keep complaining whenever they get matched up against diamonds and are gold/plat?

Ppl complain about everything. Look at it this way:

Tennis tournament: Rank 244 player gets matched against rank 1 player. Thats not unfair advantage. Now put rank 1 player against rank 3 player and make rank 1 player wear eye patch and tie one of his arms behind his back. Now we have unfair advantage.

Skill is advantage, but its not unfair advantage.

well in that case, seeing how riot knows which accounts are smurfs and who they belong to, they should just make sure that the main account of the player gets matched up only against master level players all the time. as well as have the smurf only matched up against masters all the time once it reaches level 30.

oh you have a smurf and trying to climb from gold 4 to gold 3?

have fun being matched up against bjergsen in your promos.

You do realize that best way to learn and improve is to play against much better players? You dont learn from beating enemy or stomping him. U learn from being stomped. Smurfs are in fact very helpful in that manner. Also u dont really know which account is smurf every time. What if its someone family member playing. Or internet caffe. Many different variations. Smurfs are not problem, they never were problem, and they are very helpful. OF COURSE, there are those smurfs who have high expectations from teammates because of their main ELO so they tend to be toxic to teammates, but thats different problem. Most smurfs are not even BMing, but they take alot of flame and toxicity from opponents (and even teammates because of their playstyle).

you misunderstand me, you think i hate the toxic smurfs. i really hate all smurfs. equally. im an equal opportunity smurf hater. i would like to see them all equally punished.

Well thats never gonna happen. Since smurfing is allowed, there is nothing to be punished about.

make them play vs gold and higher players, let the smurfs suffer!

when doing blind pick just take the 5 highest ranked MMR players queueing up for blind pick at that moment and place them against the lowest level smurf team available at the time! this idea is gold. i love you. you understand me.

The problem is when you play with your main and a new friend your runes/masteries make you exceptionally strong and your friend exceptionally weak. Smurfing balances it out a lot better unless they come up with a penalty to lvl 30s teaming with low lvls it's the better of the two options. Stomping faces with a lvl 30+low lvl is much worse than smurfing. I've faced a master ranked player at lvl 10 before even. I would have rather he didn't have those runes or masteries tbh.
