LoL's state directly reflects the playerbase.

I know it's constantly a spicy meme to joke that "Haha riot never listens to us" but the truth is they do. And because they do, this is the reflection of League's state:

For the longest time, people have drastically spoken against assassins. Assassins burst, have no counterplay, are too hard to play against, can kill you and then get away with no damage...so Riot listened. Now assassins get murdered by items, summoner spells and can't do anything even getting close. You think it's a coincidence we don't really see assassins unless they have a tool that, I don't know, can get rid of exhaust?

Supports are too weak. They don't do enough. So Riot has consistently and constantly added items that often get used, abused and are flat out broken. And frankly, it's not going to stop until supports are secondary peel-support-carry-tank-mages. Frostfang line. Redemption. Targon line. Etc etc etc. Hey, I bet it's still not enough. So Riot gave us exactly what we wanted.

Mages are too weak and all ADs are too strong. We need more items to combat the AD! Hexdrinker destroys us! No problem. We get a mage rework and a mage domination so absolute that they squash a majority of those who go mid. Glad we settled that. (People even have the audacity to complain that they can't break 600 AP with a god damn deathcap.)

Melee is too punishing. Why is it that a Darius can get atop Caitlyn and kill her? No fair! So, hey, let's give ADCs more peel tools and more power. Let's make it so we have a fighting chance even if they close the gap. So we have continued ADC domination...except against champions who can ruin ADCs days (Cough cough Yasuo). We gotta kneecap them too!

Almost every complaint about league right now is a recommendation I've seen in the past. Almost everything "wrong" with league at the present time is a byproduct of Riot foolishly listening to its player base even though the ramifications are worst for the highest tier, not the low tier. I hope you're all happy, you got exactly what you wanted: Riot listened and it's causing more and more problems with the game.

Community, you made your bed. Lie in it. Riot...for god's sake, PLEASE stop listening to us.

Riot...for god's sake, PLEASE stop listening to us.

I have a better idea.

They should start listening to the inteligent ones instead.

A recent example: Syndra's MYMU and the multi-sphere grab. Most if not all Syndra mains said this change was bullshit... the moment it was announced and before it even went to PBE. Now many months later we're here with Riot removing that part of MYMU and putting something else there.

If they actually listened to the feedback, we could skip all this nonsense.

Damn, I remember when your example happened! Those threads didn't receive enough exposure in any way at all and I agreed with them! It gives me an almost guilty pleasure in believing in them to the bitter end.

Sraeg20131 votes

And the best part is the fact that the idea of the multi-throw was actually posted on Boards literally once and I don't even think if it had even 5 votes on it and maybe 200 views.

I don't think the exposure was the reason, since all of those threads, for example the one made by Overlord Forte, appeared on the "Hot" page and stayed there for some time.

If exposure was fair enough, then I can't grasp what else led to the inevitable Syndra op op situation!

I typed my previous response too quickly when I saw your example, my bad.

Kassadin Mordekaiser Shaco

Kassadin: Instant pick-ban, horribly overpowered. Community: GUT HIM! Now he has to wait 40 minutes to assassinate someone. Shaco: Community: OMG NO COUNTERPLAY CAN KILL AND BACKDOOR AND PUSH AND DRAG AND SOLO BARON AT 15 MINUTES. Boom! AD Shaco gutted. Mordekaiser: Here they colossaly fucked up, I'll give you this one.

Both Shaco and Kassadin were changed due to community outcries.

ACENOX3 votes

Kassadin wasn't pick-ban after season 5 or something his ban rate dropped to 20%

they nerfed his Q base damage by 10 to make him even more useless. The champion literally didn't do jackshit until late game when he at least had 3 items

then riot did their uncalled ulti range nerf which was the only reason people picked him then boom, 37% win rate

nowday i didn't see a kassadin pick since 5 months, i even saw aatrox or urgot but never saw kassadin his utility was gutted his damage was gutted his mobility was gutted

they literally fucked up with the champ

TequilaZombie1 votes

Yep, and this came right after a Kass with about 80% ban rate through most ELOs. If I'm not mistaken it was either shortly after or shortly before they removed his silence. Then Riot slowly gutted him more and more.

they literally fucked up with the champ

100% agreed.

I'd honestly be happy if Riot just up and announced that they're no longer paying attention to user feedback for anything except bug reports.

It's worked for DotA 2 with flying colors. Icefrog doesn't give a damn what the forum-spammers and Reddit has to say. The data and the professionals are all he needs, and it works. (And yes, DotA 2 is in a rough patch right now because of the BRAND-NEW update, but it's not even bad balance-wise, just the clunky UI, anti-friendly HUD, and confusing map updates.)

Fuck professionals too, just do it all internally.

dota 2 doesn't have a forum there is a steam forum but it's not dota 2 dedicated

And ice-frog never listen to the players because if he did the game would turn into garbage, every trash champs that have 59% win rate would be even more trash by being nerfed

ie: abaddon/necrophos/omniknight

If you want a tool that gets rid of Exhaust, Clease does remove CC and Summoner Spell debuffs.

The problem isn't that they listen, but that they choose the wrong solutions to solve the problems that players complain about.

The assassin reworks are mostly good-in-theory, but they don't fit in the current state of the game because there's so much damage in the game right now that classes that are supposed to deal DPS (ADCs) or bring long-range and CC (mages) deal enough burst that a true burster like an assassin is not only irrelevant, but also outclassed. That's not a fault of the assassin rework, but the rest of the game (mostly the mastery and item systems.)

Playing a mage into an AD assassin (especially a manaless one) was always a really unpleasant experience, but instead of making it feel fairer, they instead buffed up mages so that the mages feel unfair too - making more problems rather than solving the original one. Now the mages get to have no fun against the assassin early-mid, then the assassin gets to feel totally useless against the mages mid-late.

There was a gap between the top-tier junglers, who were able to clear quickly and have enough time to gank, and the slower junglers who had to lose farming time by ganking. Instead of doing something to clear up that discrepancy, such as nerfing the over-performing junglers and maybe giving the slower junglers something to keep up, they changed the entire jungle to give all the junglers more time between camp spawns to gank - which in turn just means that those top-tier junglers are now able to freely camp lanes while still keeping up in farm and levels, while the slower junglers can now occasionally gank... just making the problem worse instead of fixing it.

It's always the same. Correctly identified problem, wrong solution that either makes the problem worse, or just introduces a different one.

Riot, just don't listen to us. And do listen to us. There's a little grey area in there & that's where you operate.

I think the real problem is that league is filled with wayyyyy to many people who think they know balance and game design. Remember when plant bashing was a thing? Now everyone carries on with them like they've been their for years.

ShaolinToilet2 votes

I hate plants but there's no point in complaining imo

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

I don't think people hated plants as much as they found them uninteresting, and hated the decision to put plants in the game as a replacement for smite buffs. I still miss smite buffs but riot has made it abundantly clear that they wont bring them back. In another year plants will be gone and replaced with something else because riot doesn't know what they want.

Riot only listens to the majority. The minority opinion doesn't matter at all here.

I haven't gotten anything I wanted from Riot in years, but they sure have taken things away that I've enjoyed.

The League community is reminiscent of the internet wrestling community. And they know very well why they don't get exactly what they want.

riot always listens, and if dont community gets angry like when no soloq in S6 or if they do listen ppl get angry again. shameeee. one of the few big game companies that listens to their playerbase, simultaneously hated by them at the same time. u hate get toxic players in ur games? riot hates coming to their own boards and a playerbase being toxic to them

Noblewind1 votes

Agreed, a lot of the time the goal of transparency actually hurts Riot more than it helps.

I think one issue is they share their bigger upcoming ideas too openly in advance. It allows the community to just trash it and come up with it's own decision for what it is before anyone has played it. Then when it does get released everyone already has a decided opinion about it, which gives every new change a smaller hope of being successful.

cTrix1 votes

How about instead YOU stop listening. Riot pays people to sieve through the feedback and decide what's valid. You don't have to do shit.

nah mate, reddit and buzzfeed reflect the state of league of legions.

Is the meta completetly different on NA than on EU?

Because there adcs are not considered to be in a good spot, it is actually the second least popular pick in ranked right now.

It could be that melees are more popular here or something. In NA Vayne and Twitch are considered hot cancer.
