How do people rack up 10+ deaths in a game and not understand they are doing something wrong?

Mafia LeBlanc··34 votes·13,106 views

For the past 10 games, I have had multiple teammates give up 10+ deaths in the first 20 minutes of the match. No one said anything when they died for the seventh time, after diving into the enemy jungle to chase their Nautilus or Singed for the fourth time, because everyone else was too busy feeding too.

I get upset when i die more than 3 times in a match because it means I am making too many mistakes. Even if you have 9 deaths, that 10th death is still 45 seconds for the enemy to do whatever the fk they want all over the map and take whatever they want, since they will auto-win every single fight just by having more people, even if the death is worth 0g.

When you die more than 5 times before laning phase even ends, you are completely giving up all control and influence in the game and are forcing everyone else to do all the work and carry you through the game. If you have two lanes who have this mindset, kiss your LP in that game good bye, because you won't win no matter how good you are or how well you play.

If you die 10+ times and then have the nerve to "?" ping spam me when I refused to chase the enemy Lulu into the unwarded enemy jungle after I ping spammed you to please stop chasing, I will sit in the fountain and watch kitten videos until I won't be at the point that I want to throw my mouse through the monitor.

It is so frustrating when I am so careful to die as little as possible while getting as many assists and kills around the map as I can to help with objectives, for my team to just literally not give a fk about how many mistakes they make or giving up thousands of gold, basically making the game unwinnable no matter what I do. I try to not say anything in chat, I try to play my best every game, but it is so ungodly infuriating when it feels like nobody else cares about winning or even tries at all.

The end.

Yeah it's super frustrating.

I have to go a while back in my match history to even find 10+ deaths in a normal. The reason and experience were so tilting I've been spamming ARAM waiting for the meta to recover. I don't know how people can do that EVERY game. I don't. I just don't.

I've got a lot of friends who just 'go in'. They either win or lose. And they keep doing it. One even jokes about 'oh, I hope you don't mind me inting, hahaha' He generally runs in a few times. If he wins, he builds damage. If he loses, he switches to splitpushing and gives up on intentionally fighting but lord, he'll keep dying.

I've also asked one person I was in call with, 'Why did you fight him again?' vs a 9/0 Darius. "Well! I can't just let him hit tower!" was his explanation. I mean. Yes, yes you can just let him hit tower... In fact I'd really freakin' appreciate if it you did.

Don't forget the 'I nearly had you that time! If only my W hit!!' you see after someone's 3rd or so death. They're just there to fight. They're gonna' keep trying to 'outplay' their opponent no-matter how far ahead they are, or how braindead their kit is.

And speaking as a sup, the hanging around for 'enough gold' for X item spike when we're defenseless... is insanely common.

Honestly a lot of it is emotional. The rest of it is just being bad.

Verxint8 votes

That "why did you fight him" "I can't let him do x for free" is a surprisingly common fallacy.

Pretty much every friend I've introduced to league has had this conversation "I can't farm without him killing me" "Then give up farm" "But then I have no gold" "Well you won't get any when you're dead"

Andevar3 votes

LOL so true. People need to learn to give up CS when behind.

You can't get gold if you're dead.

Verxint2 votes

I just don't get why I have to explain it every time. It's pretty basic strategy.

These are kids that just don't care yet they want you to follow up or you get "?" spam to death. if I die more than 5 times than my team has no coordination. I test my team map awareness by going 0-3-3 10min mark and at End game its 7-4-7 if we win.

Tomoe Gozen2 votes

I have the same friends as you do. In particular, one friend i know he isn't stupid to make mistakes like that and when he becomes stubborn and slowly simmering with rage in his head, all strategy is out the door and my team basically depends on him inting as little as possible. And this isn't tryler1 inting, this is just mistake after mistake that everyone knows he can avoid and is telling him to watch out for but he keeps doing it anyway.

And what's worse is that when i confront him about it and try to be a team leader (since no one wants to), he just cuts himself out of a discussion completely and just says "i don't give a shit", "don't want to talk" or straight quits LeagueVoice that we all agreed to participate in, given we're playing 3v3 ranked (at that time).

And that absolutely rustles my jimmies, that he doesn't have the same level of respect towards his teammates to finish a game as a team, instead of leading us all into a defeat because he decided not to give a shit after a while. That's a close friend, mind you - not some rando i met online. And that's why i don't play with him ranked games anymore.

I feel you OP. but the worse thing is Riot has babied the playerbase. Why do you think people don't care when they go 0/10 by min 15? Because Riot defends mediocrity nobody gets banned or even warned for not trying to play. People who feed 10 kills by 15 min are not trying their best. I've had games where i get camped and i don't feed that hard and still keep up in CS even if im off role i don't feed and keep up in CS.

So blame Riot for this situation, as long as they continue to allow mediocre players to feed to their heart's content because they are "trying" soloqueue will be a joke.

^so this. I don't understand why are they so afraid to have stricter gameplay rules tied to ranked. It's a gamemode for players to tryhard on. Fucking force players to tryhard on it.

I don't think flat out banning people is the way to go for having a few bad games though. I am not talking about obiously trolling like 200 games on Anivia/Tahm all losses, but they could do something like rank bans. Like if they could have a tilt meter that would force people to not be able to que up for ranked games for x amount of time (anywhere from an hour to 24 imo would be fine) then that way it would force people to take a break and hopefully try harder when they come back.

I didn't even say to ban them. But yea, just disable them from plying ranked if they're not willing to improve.

You must not play top lane then, where certain champions can get a 1 kill + 1 level advantage on you, and proceed to actually ignore your tower and just kill you behind it and there is nothing you can do besides run back to your 2nd tower and recall and give them about a 4 level advantage by the time you hit level 6 at which point you're still going to just die under your tower if you try to take any farm while they're around.

HaIlMonitor7 votes

Did you actually go back and watch what happens?

Things like:

  • Were they getting camped

  • Who were they, and who were they verse (Like Xerath vs Talon)

There are so many reasons it could happen beyond they suck. I have had a couple games in top where I die at level 2 or 3, TP in get ganked on TP, walk back and get tower dove.... Like all in 5 minutes I am level 2, 10 CS and getting crapped on but there really isnt anything I could have done except what afk? Sometimes the game just snowballs really hard.

I generally agree with you.... but.... always exceptions.

Yesterday I had a game with a Jax smurfing mid. Dude kept leaping HALF THE LANE or would leap to his own minions to get near me and would just flash the rest of the distance. I was Zyra , and he was about 1 shotting WITHOUT items before the game even began. Jungler just completely ignored it, or when he didn't fed him too. We kind of didn't have a choice in the matter. We knew his ranges.... and really couldn't do anything about it. He can leap to wards/minions.

Of course there are exceptions - we've all had that one-off game where everything went wrong. The difference is that with you and I, when we have those 10+ death games, they feel like absolute shit - you actually go back and think "what the fuck happened what did i do wrong??" and reflect on your mistakes and learn from it.

I'm talking about the people who literally die 10+ times EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. and feel nothing about it. They just don't care - and they are literally carried through every single game by at least 2 other people like us who have to do all the work and protect them as they path directly down mid without any care, map awareness, or strategy. These are the same people that watch you blow your entire combo on an enemy, including both summoners and half your health bar, then proceed to immediately start another fight when all your CDs are down and your mana is gone, then "?" "?" "?" ping spam and flame you in all chat for 'not helping'.

A. you out range him. B. If he is playing that agro you should be under tower and trying to root him during his all ins C. If he killed you 3 times in a row maybe pause that damage item and build defensively. My absolute worst laning has been 0/4 and ive comback from it, 0/10 in 15min is unacceptable unless you are bronze, then its expected.

People are making it sound like its so hard not to die when its the easiest thing to do in this game.

Illabethe1 votes

You really don't know what you're talking about.

A. Jax can leap to ANY object for 700 range. Zyra's auto attack range is 575. You don't spam skills in lane, and even if you do, Q is only 800. and early game E doesn't last long at all. Even if you land your entire kit, it's not enough to kill Jax. And, Q has a delay in casting. Jax can walk right through it for 100 range.

B. He had a level 3 item 3144 , because after I died once, my jungle XinZhao went in and fed him. My First death was the Leap > Flash I mentioned, which does outrange Zyra. He literally crossed over half the lane in one leap, right over a big wave of minions. I was auto attack farming the minions to conserve mana. He Leaped a minion, Flashed after setting off Counterstrike, to ensure the stun. The combo has an effective range of 1275.

But after he had item 3144 he just kept slowing me. Life steal helped him tug through and survive with about 30-40% HP left.

Then it didn't even matter. He could pure dive. Zyra's E doesn't last long enough, and Leap slam has a low enough cooldown to get out after a dive. He was generally out before R could knock him up because of how fast Jax kills.

C. I Did. I built item 3165 and was on my way into a item 3157 Life steal champs and all..... Stasis.... It's not just Jax to deal with you know? They also had a Kayn who was fed off other lanes, both were sustain.

Generally I dominate both Kayn AND Jax when I'm ahead. But I didn't effectively have a jungler, and Jax was WAY ahead.

You need to actually play the matchup before you try to come up with some generality. I have over 780,000 mastery on Zyra. I usually don't die much at all. I know the can and can't do's.

i am in the same spot, and the sad part is in not even intentionally "quitting" it's just i dont even find it "fun" anymore, there is always some broken imbalanced champion i have to face and there is no way in hell there are enough bans to stop them all. its just not "fun" anymore for me.

and when i read them doing shit like changing Ornn and Galio instead of fixing broken shit like Irelia . and actually NERFING VISION MORE. i dont have the urge to come back. the only thing im looking forward to is the "Morgana visual update" but there is no point in playing if the game is in such a shit state that i can even play the champs i like and have fun.

i dont want to play your "top ten meta broken as fuck champs" i want to play the champion i love. i want a balanced game.

It's situational. I got counterpicked by Viegar went 0/9/0 and got a B+ for that game. Sometimes your just fucked even if you play well.

I'm sure this example isn't what your talking about

LetMeCarry19832 votes

Did you go 0-9 in lane or is that your final score after the match. If it's from lane phase only then something is seriously wrong. No one should EVER EVER go 0-9 in lane in a ranked game.

Mordepool1 votes

Oh mb 0/9 final. I probably died twice in lane after LVL 6

Sirsir4 votes

These days its not always up to you anymore. Turrets do less damage than a cannon creep, if a 1-0 garen wants he can just waltz under tower and 100-0 you with his combo and ignite, and pretty much every other champ with their jungler can do the same. One of any number of catch champs in the game? you can't even walk to the edge of your base anymore. In a majority of cases you can't play safe enough without going AFK.

Cosnirak4 votes

Any time I've died that much it's because the first 2-3 were fairly understandable deaths. After at that point it's often a matter of luck.

In certain matchups once you're that far behind your only way to live is to play so safely that it's almost as bad as dying in terms of resources lost. If you're a little lucky (especially in terms of getting ganked/roamed on further) you can farm well enough and just play safe and live. But if say the enemy jungler comes again or your opponent happens to be fairly skilled and knows how easy it is to dive you your only options swiftly become things like letting them take 1-2 towers and safely farming under the next tower.

Even then often it's not about what that person who is dying does, it's about what their team does. Once you're down 2-3 kills it tends to be very easy for the enemy jungler to come and dive you successfully. The correct response usually isn't for the player being killed to give up their tower and retreat very far back. The correct response is for their jungler and/or other teammates to come and help ward the area and show up for any fights they reasonably can. But in soloq that rarely happens and as the person dying there's not much you can do about it that doesn't result in your team losing.

So what often happens is your first death or two are due to either ganks or straight up losing the 1v1 (maybe 2v2 in bot lane). Then because you're behind you get ganked by everybody and their brother but you know that completely abandoning your lane to afk back a tower while the enemy freezes is still a certain loss so you just get in there and try to farm safely but without any help you can't survive further ganks and suddenly you're 0/4-0/5 territory. Now the enemy team takes your first two towers, you probably can't even beat the enemy support 1v1, and to top it off you're at least a little tilted.

If you try to group you get no farm because your team has decided you're dead to them and you can't compete with their farming because you're so behind. In any fight you're the first person the enemy targets because you're an easy target. Poke trucks you as you try to skimp on typical defensive choices in an effort to be relevant by doing at least some damage. You try to farm some jungle out of desperation, death number 7 is your reward.

Your team is flaming you and you no longer even care if anything you do is wise or really increases your odds of winning. Even if you get a kill or an assist in a team fight that just puts a giant target on your back because you're worth gold to the enemy again. You die randomly while trying to defend sieges because your team sure isn't going to expend any effort to help you now. You group more out of habit than anything and another team fight happens and obviously your team loses it because it's effectively a 4v6 thanks to how far behind you are and how far ahead the people killing you are. Even if your team isn't aced you're obviously one of the ones to die, and early too, likely getting a single assist at best if your team even manages to kill anyone.

And that's how you get to 10+ deaths fairly easily.

tl;dr Once behind it usually takes a team effort to halt the snowball from rolling all over you and outside of pro games teams rarely even remotely understand this let alone pull it off.

Not wearing rose tinted glasses here but I do remember the earlier seasons someone going 0/10 in 15 min was rare as fuck unless they were trolling, like running down mid over and over again. Even back then i remember telling players that it will be ok, freeze the lane and farm if they got hard fucked in lane.

Need Gold 4 Tent2 votes

It only takes 2 deaths in lane at the wrong time (wave shoved in), and you literally cannot lane anymore because the enemy laner has 2 levels on you, and a sheen + longsword to your dshield+boots. You stay in lane even trying to soak exp, you'll get dived at some point. So, your only solution: AFK?

And not forgetting the fact that later when the 2/0 free-farmed Irelia shows up bot and murders everyone, all the question mark pings start getting spammed.

I play Sona

At this point in the super overkill in 1 second meta it's not really preventable when a enemy team is ahead, I can't stop an enemy assassin from just ending my life if my Yasuo has fed them 10 kills already The problem is how snowbally the games are, I play safe because I have to early what means I am not going to have gained much heat, maybe a kill and death here and there

Meanwhile Midlanes feeding out the ass, toplane and jungle is trading kills like crazy, the score is something stupid like 10/25 at 15 mins and I am sitting at a KD of 1/1/2 playing the slow game Now everyone else in the game but botlane (and the guy feeding with no kills) has a shitton of gold injected in them, now the game just becomes "freekill the squishy botlane"

It's a shitty pill to swallow but once you realize you are not in control of your KDA in this meta anymore, you begin not caring about going 10+ deaths in the game it's doing that or just going afk, those are your only choices when everyone has like 5k more gold then you

The end.

I take it you've never been in a game where your jungler is total dogshit and your lane gets camped by an actually competent enemy JG.

This usually has 2 outcomes:

1- You usually get early deaths. 2- You get pushed under turret and fall so utterly behind in CS and xp from the constant failed gank attempts (you escape but lost half your health bar and risk death of all in from opponent if you try to CS anything but melee minions under turret) that you rack up the deaths when laning phase is over because you are 1-2 items behind the rest of the enemy team if not behind by 1-2 levels as well.

And even in the case where I'm not describing a bad midlane setup:

You pick a Garen or Illaoi or Darius top only for the enemy lane to counterpick a Quinn/Teemo and your jungler never visits top because in this game you get a bunch of autofills that don't know shit about rotating and just want to afk farm. Same result, tons of deaths, or little deaths but so far behind in CS and xp that the CS advantage turns to multiple kills in translation worth of advantage.

LetMeCarry19832 votes

Only a dogshit jungler would gank a feeding lane, regardless of the reason he is feeding. If I lose lane hard(not feeding though, I'm not a feeder) or getting camped, the last thing I was is for the jungler to come help me. I want him and mid to four man bot lane instead, get the tower and dragon. Then they could all come help me if they so desire. That is the optimal play. I can deal with being camped or bullied by counters just fine by myself, because I'm not some dumb noobshit feeder like the majority of my team mates.

Said dogshit jungler is not ganking any lanes PERIOD. He's just farming, trying ganks when the opponent is by turret with a full minion wave behin them, or only comes from a gank when his teammates are already almost dead and can't help him.

And good luck ignoring a losing top lane. Enjoy not having a frontline at all, by which point you better hope mid and bot chose champs that can siege well and have enough peel to not get engaged on without a frontline and die.

A jungler should never ever gank a losing lane unless he got ahead from previous plays made elsewhere on the map. Ganking a losing lane only loses you the game faster.

Failed ganks lose you the game. Letting a lane that's only 1 kill behind snowball into irrelevance is a pretty dumb decision when often a countergank can get that top laner in the game.

But if you think having a useless Darius that blows up in 4 seconds while the enemy got a snowballed Mundo is a good idea, enjoy the rest of the match playing the range game.

I wish riot would hard reset ranked and everyone would start at the bronze four next year. The current system basically has climb assist. Makes it easier to climb and harder to demote. If these ppl, started at the bottom they would find it harder to get carried and would stay in in bronze where they will play with their own kind.

I am more than happy to climb back out of bronze if it means I don't have to see them in my other matches.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t get much better, at least not until you hit very high elo. It’s absurd how winnable games are thrown because of stupid plays leading to unnecessary deaths. I’ll have games where I’ll run over my lane like a freight train, but bot lane gets double killed every time they step into lane or something stupid like that and we end up in a 45 minute slugfest and eventually lose because we can’t close the game in what’s essentially a 3v4.

It’s not hard to understand. Getting carried is a skill and you’ll find if you stop dying repeatedly like an animal, you’ll win more. Drop the protagonist syndrome and let your more fed/more skilled teammates carry you.
