A very common low elo problem, that I haven't entirely gotten past myself, is inability to distinguish between "a good opportunity to land your engage tool" and "a good opportunity to engage the enemy".

Not having enough teammates around is one of the main factors that can make one of those things very, very different from the other. Not having enough vision to know how many enemies are around is another.

Ha. That's what you think.

It** never **goes away.

KoggyStyle1 votes

oh god....

Catastroclysm11 votes

This.

It's literally the most common thing ever- and I don't understand. All you have to do is stand in a different lane, and not do anything until the split pressure is there.

How is that hard?

Supreme Senpai695 votes

Most of the time people are dumbos but sometimes they just jump on you and you have to fight. Like if they have a Leona

KoggyStyle3 votes

thats 1 person (i hope) the other 3 can get the fuck out.... right? i like seeing all my allies die in the same exact spot during a split, thats great!

Supreme Senpai691 votes

Sometimes. Like if your ADC in the back gets jumped on then at that point you sorta have to fight it out. Or sometimes you can back up at the loss of only one ally but you'd probably lose that tower which defeats the purpose of the splitpush. You'd gain one tower and lose one tower and lose an ally as well. Or sometimes you try to get out but for whatever reason they have champions that are good at sticking. like Kled or Vayne.

And sometimes people are just idiots who legit don't know their top laner isn't there lol. Just wanted to point out the other side of the coin, when someone tries to splitpush against a comp that doesn't really allow that. Like if they have a Leona/Blitzcrank or Camille or somethin you probably shouldn't leave your team to 4v5 since they have the engage. Unless you have a Janna or something

coreychichi2 votes

Well see champions have these things called ultimates and some of them combined with flash are actually pretty good engage tools. Also unless your vision is perfect they have chances to get caught out. When they do get caught out(and they will because plitpushing is hard for even pro teams to manage) they have to fight undermanned while you derp around toplane. Unless of course you decide to dictate what they can do all game just because you wanted to play tryndamere. Which they wont do to because theyre 4 strangers who dont give a crap about you.

Also you realize there are areas that aren't in lanes right? The enemy can flank your team from any part of the jg, and they probably will because your top and a tower doesn't make up for a missing player.

KoggyStyle1 votes

wards do.

Edit: if theyre flash ulting you then you left turret and over extended, if the enemy champions stop showing theyre face then ping mia... but ping it where the enemy went missing and most likely routes.

PSA. Stop fucking splitpushing, it is a technique that requires high teamwork and skill from all of team's members. If you assume that it's hard to engage your team with all the mobility and summs that are available, aside from the fact that your team is probably not LCS level and will probably make positioning mistakes, you deserve to lose the game.

Honestly, even though some champs are great at splitpushing, there are hardly any occasions when they should be doing that instead of teamfighting until mid diamond elo. The fact that Shaclone can do it does not mean that either you or your bronze-silver teammates can play a splitpush properly.

Let's see, a proper splitpush requires:

-Keypoint vision (pretty much never available in pre-diamond) -Extreme awareness (to use the vision properly) -Pinpoint positioning from the 4-man (to maintain the pressure but not get engaged on) -Proper timing from the splitpusher. -Either power or ability advantage over your opponent who should come to stop you. (actually the easiest thing to get, but it's the least important too) -Engage/disengage coordination from the 4-man.

Now how many things you could put a check on in soloq? 1-2? It's true that the enemy team may play with your splitpush horribly too and give you chances, but that is WAY less likely as countering the splitpush has way less requirements. So, you're basically putting your team in a disadvantage if you split, and while it may succeed occasionally, most of the time it will fail.

Tl;dr - splitpush is a high elo/team tactic, don't expect it to work with low elo teammates or else you're the fool.

PSA: Split-pushing can be done even in low ELO...you just need to actually inform your team that you are doing so. Tell them you are split-pushing and to hang back and then rush a tower / dragon when you get attacked. If their replies sound like whiny children, then they are too stupid to be trusted and split-pushing is a bad idea even if it the only way to win. If they are chill and don't just mindlessly dive into the enemy team, then feel free to split push to victory. If they make a good argument for why you shouldn't split push...then DO NOT split, because you lucked into a team that is actually intelligent and can win if you work together.

Some champs also just suck in team fights and are only really good at split-pushing.

Tryndamere : Until his rework finally happens, it will always be better to split as Trynd than throw the game on his horrid team fighting. Just stay top lane until you break the inhibitor...which you will because in low ELO they compulsively cannot leave a lone enemy alone and you might even get the whole enemy team to come stop you if you get enough double kills.

Fiora : Awesome single-target duelist. Terrible against multiple opponents due to no AoE, no real ranged poke, no ability to pick targets, no reliable diving due to the short range on her Q, and generally lack of utility. Struggles to reach key targets in team fights and is shredded by AoE and chain CC. Pushes waves like crazy and can take out pretty much anyone in a 1v1.

Jax : Like Fiora, except he can actually get away with building tanky so he might be able to team fight if he gets fed. Otherwise he split pushes top lane since he can't poke, lock-down targets, or engage fights.

Shaco : Not sure if the rework fixed this but Shaco has virtually nothing to contribute to a team fight. If you have engage, then he can wait for an ally to engage then jump in and nuke someone with Q and pray that his E is enough to finish the target off because his W either explodes right away or is useless as the fight ends or moves away from it. But he pushes lanes like a boss and has hilariously easy escapes with his Q.

Melee champions in general have a hard time contributing to fights unless they are very tanky and/or have good AoE CC to engage with. Champions like Malphite , Nautilus , Amumu , and Alistar can and should team fight.

But if you have good engage, or someone on your team has good engage, and you are even or ahead, then obviously it's better to just team fight since you can actually win them. If your comp has no good engage or you are all falling behind and can't hope to win a straight fight, then consider split pushing or surrendering.

Source: I've been successfully split-pushing in Bronze and Normals since Season 2. It's a perfectly viable tactic down here, you just need to know when to break it out. I've even gotten xPeke style backdoor victories so pretty much anything works down here if you have half a clue.

coreychichi3 votes

"PSA: Split-pushing can be done even in low ELO...you just need to actually inform your team that you are doing so."

No it can't. You're a moron. If you think that 5 strangers without mics are going to have the kind of instant back and forth communication to manage a split push strat when even lcs pro teams struggle with it you are beyond deluded. Split pushing in solo q is cancer and your teammates have every right to be salty at you for it.

Roaranor1 votes

You have to keep in mind that your enemy team are also a group of strangers lacking those same tools. And just as with your team, they may also have split reactions as to how to deal with your split pushing (some will want the team to push as 5, while others may want to recall to stop you, one might even ping Baron).

It's been pretty hit or miss for me personally. Sometimes I'll get 2 towers and half an inhib for maybe one tower. Other times my team will apply zero pressure and I have to stop at like half a wave. You just gotta loosely try it once or twice and judge whether your team will function competently enough for it to work.

Finn Teh Human3 votes

It's funny because I often see a lot of games lost because of this. However if you have pressure in a lane it forces someone to take care of it and usually the enemy has to use tp to get to that lane. So when your split pusher meets back with the team is the time to engage when it's 4v5 and pushed on their side. I've noticed that a lot of people even in Platinum make the mistake of letting their lanes get pushed and then the enemy literally just has to stall and let the minions do the work. Split pushing is actually one of the best things you can do in solo que because it GUARANTEES someone has to back or lose a tower/objective if they let you split push. The only thing you need to do when split pushing is making sure that their team isn't going to jump you and watch to see if they're taking baron/elder. I use to play Teemo top before I knew any other top laners when I was last pick in ranked. I'd split push and shroom their jg so I could just go invisible before they got to me and they'd waste time going back and forth. If your team understands and you can communicate, splitpushing can crush a team that would have owned you in a teamfight.

Lothàrs Edge3 votes

Or make sure there isn't a 5 man bot pushing 3 towers in and 1 inhib before someone decides to get an outer-lane tower... Had a scrub gold 3/self-proclaimed plat player that said his splitpush (that caused us 4 deaths, 3 towers and 1 inhib) was what saved us and that we couldn't 5v5 because his champion, Quinn, is a supposedly a terrible team fighter... so 4v5 is better? I'm not understanding how this works.

KoggyStyle1 votes

im bronze and make a mistake to split too much, but damn some people are god complexs arent they.

KoggyStyle1 votes

what if my team wont defend the turret that your not pushing from and a huge wave forms so you have to split that lane too, then they bitch cuase you dident go pure tank....

Finn Teh Human1 votes

In every game you kinda have to trust your team to some degree. If you plan on split pushing then it helps to let them know ahead of time and if they don't defend then that's on them.

4 of my teammates are mid past the river with a nice creep wave. I'm Master Yi, top, with a nice wave myself.

"guys pressure but dont engage give me time to split push" "ok" "gotchu fam" "no prob" "roger dodger"

Suddenly, a wild Malphite appears! My teammate flash ults under their tower and only hits Sona! The rest of the team dives! It's a slaughter! After they're wiped out in a 4v5, the enemy pushes mid and takes the inhib! But don't worry, we have salt!

"yi wtf" "where were you?" "/all please report our feeding yi" "this fucking guy"

Every time I play someone and try to splitpush.

Ambient Snow5 votes

Where is the one saying " If your enemy team is crashing your towers , stop split pushing and help the base?"

cause

I know I ping the split pusher when enemy is crashing towers and we look and they are split pushing top and saying STFU and hold them..

you lose the tower and inhib and in hib, Then inner towers and base.

then you get to listen after game to your split pusher " OMG MY TEAM F;ing SUCKS!!!!!"

its like -.- ummm. we pinged you 20 times to come help and you just sat top and only took one tower.. while they crashed the base and took it all. 1 tower < 4 towers+ inhib + base

skyskee0082 votes

I actually hate this mentality however. If you can't win a 5v5 then the split pusher grouping means nothing 90% of the time. The split pusher doesn't really help with a waveclear problem.

If the enemy team is sieging your tower all they will do is sit there and look and them because they're probably a melee champion that is somewhat squishy. Your tower will still fall and you will just be more behind in gold/xp

At the same time, low elo doesn't understand split pushing. It's a mentality that you start as soon as laning phase is over. You run around the map crashing as many minion waves jnyo towers as possible, then grouping until someone pushes your wave out and you need to crash it again. That way, when you go to split and the enemy team engages, the wave will already be on their side AKA towers are already under pressure. Or if they engage when you're grouped, it'll be a 5v5 but they will be losing 2x minion waves AND can't push for towers because waves aren't favored even if they win.

Lothàrs Edge1 votes

But the team can't win a perfectly even 5v5 what makes you think they can win a 4v5? At least if any play is made, having even numbers increases the chances of coming out on top. i.e. 4v5, 4 gets wiped out but 3-4 people of the 5 are sitting at lethal-kill-range. Could've been different if the person grouped. Same argument can be made for potentially stupid or off-meta lanes. "Oh we can't win this lane/gank for this guy because they're not the optimal champ so that means I'm not even going to bother helping them I'm going to split-- can't count how many times we've lost fights because of this dumb mentality".

Ping omw top.

Ping that TP is up.

While walking top watch team engage 4v5 in the jungle with no wards to TP to.

Proceed to bask in question marks.

This happens so often... I try and go clear a wave bot, I'll even ping danger, say in chat im clearing waves don't fight yet. What do they do? They fight!

ya i find people bich about you protecting theyre fkin towers while they are off chasing kills....

Thats my trigger. Especially when you type "I have TP in 2 minutes dont fight" then they fight 30 seconds later and you get spammed by ????????????????????

Second psa: letting the enemy close enough to engage counts as engaging.

Oh I'm sorry because enemy Malphite flash ulted under our own fucking turert that if we weren't there the enemy team would have killed in seconds along with the inhib.

Did you ping your teleport timer? Because really, you should. Else they will expect you to tp in when there is a scrap.

I'm always pinging everything when I can so, yeah. I'm not the one splitting though. Our tank engages the 4v5 then pings missing on our splitting tryn when hes smacking the enemy inhib and wins us the game.

idk why riot cant allow for voice chat

idk who has time to type in game ill be spilting dont fight... then let alone anyone read that

Because there are third party programs that do it already.

I have no idea what the fuck about League's playerbase suggests that voice chat would do anything but exacerbate every single community-based problem. Riot already has to make broad, sweeping generalizations about what qualifies for toxicity, and you want to give these kids another conduit for their crappy behavior? No, thank you-- especially considering how much harder they'd have to work to contain the problems that would arise, and how thinly spread they already seem to be.

yeah cuz other games dont have that problem right... no see the issue is.. other games dont require communication as much that league does and they still have voice chat options... its honestly pretty sad that a game as big as this doesnt have a voice coms

everyone should know what to do without even pinging....

I don't play COD for the same reason I wouldn't play league if they had a program such as that which you describe because I don't need a petulant 10 year screaming in my ear calling everyone every obscenity they can think of. The community is already overly toxic we do not need to grant them more avenues to unless their natures upon everyone else. It would not work in this game it just wouldn't, it's more than naive to even think it would. They already have issues dealing with the already present toxicity, this would only add gasoline to an already burning and out of control forest fire.

Third party programs do not give a default base to use nor the standard option to make people use them. As a support, I would love to communicate properly with my adc, but he may be on discord/teamspeak/curse etc and will probably not give me his contact unless we play as a duo.

3rd party only helps the organized teams to prosper, it doesn't do shit for soloq.

Riot does not want voice chat for League. They asked Curse to discontinue their voice chat that automatically placed you into a chat with other teammates who were using Curse, not because it gave an advantage but because they couldn't police the toxicity.

You can always try inving them, I do that sometimes.

Unicky1 votes

Thank you.

People in my elo have the "see play make play" mentality (I kinda have it to, to some extent.) that empowers them to go for a big play regardless of how stupid it really is. People in my elo also have a tendency to overextend, someone gets engaged on and everyone else feels obligated to fight to save the guy (then die with him 4v5). I'm not much of a splitpusher but these tendencies make me terrified to go to sidelanes even to farm the massive wave that's collected (because no one knows how to push a lane in) or even to go and grab dinner.

gileskd1 votes

When you "see" your teammate split pushing

I think most people would agree with me, you could turn fog of war off, and your team wont notice you split pushing until after the 4 v 5, then they will look for whoever is still alive and spam ping/blame them :(

Lauchmelder1 votes

Just to make something clear (and I agree with you)

I'm gonna engage the living funk out of the enemy team if they try to recall. Just to back off immediately. You better get some damage done for that though.
