Ranked: Disable Champs You're not Level 5+ With

Edit: I should have included, this is something I'd like to see in Plat+. At least level 2-3 with a champ before ranked. First time should just not be allowed at that point, or you should have some idea of how to play a nice variety of champs and not need to first time pick someone.

(Not entirely sure what board is the best for this topic. Kind of a few things, in my opinion. Anyways...)

This would absolutely make people play what they're best at, which is what ranked is all about. How many of you have already lost countless games because "I'm already a master Ryze!" players?

It's not even like it's that much of a stretch goal either. That's like, what, 20-30 games or so on a champ? Give or take. I've been using sites like OP.GG lately to kind of track how I play. Checking my KP/KDA, etc, but also my teammates after the game. I'm not typically that guy who blames my teammates for bad plays. Since I'm a support main, I feel like it's my goal to keep my ADC then the rest of my team alive throughout the game. They're my damage, after all. But I have to kind of sneer a little when I see one of my teammates go 0/7 and, ya know, my first thought is usually, "Dang, unlucky game for them. Been there before." But then I check OP.GG after the game and notice... "No, it was literally their first ranked game of X champ, and they never play them in normals.. That might explain it."

Goal with this is to generally have better games and make players PLAY and LEARN various champions BEFORE taking them into ranked and condemning their teammates to a potentially horrible time for everyone involved. I could see this potentially hurting One-Tricks a little bit like if their champion is popular in the meta and therefore potentially banned. (see Irelia the past 3 patches or so). But losing to the "Quick Learners/Masters" has cost me and I'm sure a lot of others a lot of LP. And of course this would hurt level 30 people just starting ranked, so maybe in Platinum and up games have this added? Just spitballing here out of rage. League is a game highly based on knowledge. No one should be forced to play with people who have none to very, very, very, little knowledge about who their playing.

Maybe I should start checking OP.GG and such before games, but I feel like that might change my mentality going in to the game. Psych myself out or something. I don't even play with names or look at them most of the time. (unless it's something silly and/or catches my eye). I'm not sure.

That would make queue times take aaaaages because it'd knock a lot of people out of ranked.

hitting mastery 5 has nothing to do with skill. I'm mastery 6 on Yasuo iirc and I'm still fucking garbage with him at a 30% winrate.

So no, mastery 5 is NOT a standard for ranked play.

Level 2 and up I'd support, but I don't feel like grinding a champ through norms for a couple of days just so it's even an option for ranked.

I used to think this way, and then I realized that this wouldn't work. Think about people who smurf, and think about the players who one trick a champion and get it banned, what would they have to resort to? Probably something that isn't level 5. This idea has been thought about a lot by many people, it in reality does not work.

You need 16 champs to be able to play ranked. This would change it so that you need to do 300+ game focused on those 16 champs in order to play ranked...

FYI, you're 3 champions short of being able to play Ranked if a Level 5+ Champion Mastery went live right now. You've also got significantly more Level 5+ champions than most people I know.

So, in order to play ranked at all, a person would need to have 16 champions at mastery 5 or better?

No, thank you.
