About this mobility creep thingie Feat. Annie bashing

Ok, gonna make this a quick post, as I have to be a productive member of society and go to work soon.

Right now, we have a problem: mobility creep. Everyone and their dog's dog can dash around a fight, close gaps in the blink of an eye while it's target creates a new gap and then they flash and ghost and then blink once again. Or they are immobile melees who get kited to hell and back. With the advantages of mobility, a cute little thing called mobility creep was born.

"What is this mobility creep?" you ask. Well, mobility creep is (for the purposes of this post) the need to have some sort of mobility to be truly useful. You either move around fast enough or you will get either kited by the ones who do or get killed by them. Sometimes both. There is a little more to it, but by now you have certainly aquired a good enough notion of what it is by playing the game which kinda renders this paragraph useless.

With mobility creep creeping (heh) in, most people thought the solution would be to simply CC the mobile champions and render them useless. However, while CC'ing that pesky Yasuo who's dashing non stop through your team like an annoying mosquito works wonders to get rid of him, it works massively better on that poor Nasus who just got 666 stacks and wants to show you how hard he can hit.

For a while, all hope was lost. Until Riot came up with something: Grounding. Tell me what better way to deal with a mobile champion than simply removing their mobility? The best thing about it? It doesn't punish immobile champions as hard.

If we could have more grounding effects, the mobility creep would be vastly reduced. Imagine Singed with a Ground on his W (after all it's a mega adhesive) or Mega Gnar's jump having it. Maybe tapping it on Viktor's W, Swain's Q, Corki's W and even Jinx's Laser. Hell, give it to a lot of champions so we have a counterplay to mobility that isn't simply more mobility.

This bring us to a second point: Annie.

Riot has stated that Annie is currently like that for a single purpose: to keep mobile champions in check. By giving more Grounding effects to champions, the mobility creep will no longer be such a huge problem that it will require such a bullshit annoying fucking broken ohh, fuck it bullshit champion to exist in this state.

This would not only allow Riot to change Annie from the "I will 100-0 you. If I fail to do so, my bear Tibbers will finish the job for me. Even if you kill me, he's going after you!" to something more along the lines of a regular mage, with skillshots and counterplay that isn't simply "don't get in my range unless you're buying a lot of MR" which makes outplays really difficult if the Annie has any idea what she's doing.

Ok, I let some salt be spilled in the last paragraph or two, but you guys get the point. More Grounding = Less mobility creep = More viability for immobile and melee champions = Less power to overly mobile champions = No need to Annie be so goddamn annoying. It's a win-win-win-win-win. Those are 5 wins!

  1. We as players get to play around with a new mechanic
  2. Riot solves a big problem
  3. Melee and immobile champions get to be viable
  4. Mobile champions get to have their mobility to be more impactful
  5. Annie gets to become an interesting and deep champion

Shit, this became much bigger than I expected. I'm late now.

Anyway, thoughts?

{quoted} Or they are immobile melees who get kited to hell and back.

Or immobile mages.

A few supports.

Some Marksman too.

And now that I think about it most if not all Tanks, Dive Fighters, and Slayers have some form of mobility, meaning only Juggernauts and Juggernaut-like Fighters are left of the slow immobile melee category.

In which case it becomes an intentional weakness of theirs to be kited :x

Neat, so if I look at a general statistics website, I should see hyper mobile champions dominating the charts.

At the time of this response, the highest win rate champions are: JarvanIV Nunu Annie MissFortune Sion

Okay, I'd consider Jarvan pretty decently mobile. Sion is...sorta mobile? Miss Fortune and Nunu both have built in movement speed buffs but at this point we'd be stretching the mobility argument. No, it seems you don't necessarily need mobility to be especially useful.

Champion.gg also has an overall statistics category, so if you want to argue that win rates can be skewed and thus are a bad indicator and yada yada yada, the overall performance toppers are: Jayce Zac Velkoz Jhin Janna

So one that I would accept as overly mobile in Zac, one sorta mobile in Jayce, the rest of them however slow and otherwise immobile.

Hmm.

Poor.

Wow.

Alright this thread honestly spirals downward from here. I understand entirely if you want to make the argument that mobility creep is annoying and feels overpowered, but factually you're kinda wrong here.
