Wet noodle fights are more entertaining to watch then MF ulting and someone dies from full health.

At least that is my take on it.

Riot do you know of the word suspense?

But for some reason having to make a bunch of decisions in a 15 to 20 second period is seen as less skillful then making one or two decisions and it is all decided?

I find tank support vs tank support fights the most entertaining. Now THAT'S a wet noodle fight.

Soraka VS Janna Will last to round 12

It's comparable to the hilarious spectacle of a resto druid fighting a resto shaman in WoW. But after the first 30 minutes tick by it's just sad at that point.

...but you can be damn sure I made that shaman think twice about touting his rank...or living...either or.

Spoofghoul4 votes

you could do that with paladin too

i can remember dueling my bro which played a druid and the duel lasted almost 2 hours before we got bored lol

In an open field, yes..

Near turrets, Janna will push her in if she can't get out afterwards. If she can, Soraka will just spam Q and win.

Watching Malphite and Warwick slapping the shit out of each other is hilarious and anyone who disagrees has no soul.

I remember a game where I was playing Sion , we had a Jungle Zac and the enemy had a Toplane Nautilus who got fed in lane.

Me, as Sion, and Zac went to stop Nautilus from taking the second top tower, which resulted in an incredibly long fight where we kept trying to use our spells optimally (Timing my Q after the Naut used his dredge line so he couldn't interrupt it for example). Eventually, we killed Nautilus, while Zac was desperatly trying to stay alive by picking up blobs

And we all decided that it didn't matter who won the game anymore, that was the most fun we've had in a fight in a long time.

He is right, fights should be about constantly being better than your opponent, outcsing them, and knowing when to go in, not by who presses their buttons first. This is why I love tank wet noodle slap fights.

It is hard to protect a carry when you die in under 3 seconds.

It is hard to protect a carry when you die in under 3 seconds.

It is hard to peel against an assassin with edge of night.

Some of us also miss being able to play full tank support junglers and help laners get kills like we used to in the earlier seasons, and with a few reworks that happened, provided they do this update right, I can add to my list of champions I'd jungle with to the point that I would give up ADC entirely and dedicate focus just to the jungle role and occasionally Ahri just to remain faithful to my favorite champ.

I'd like to be able to use a support style build on all of these again (with some newcomers): Elise (Gragasnew) JarvanIV Malphite Maokai Nocturne Nunu Vi (Warwicknew) Zac

I realize It's a lot to ask for to the point of being unrealistic, but whatever - I'd just like to use my old pool with the "second support" style of jungling I gravitated toward from watching TheOddOne's streams in seasons 2/3.

BluePolarizer1 votes

when have ppl ever been able to go tank Nocturne? Even when he was picked in Worlds or LCS, he has either been a full AD assassin or on-hit bruiser.

Season 3.

Edit: Found some gameplay.

Its less skillful imo because in long fights like that, youre mostly just gonna right click. Especially sinde tanks have reliable/impossible to miss damage anyway (not all tanks but... most of them).

I'd much rather watch SoloRenektonOnly play Renekton against Poppy and destroy her through superior wave management and gain a 50 cs lead, than watching ppl get 1 shot from a MF ult or Jhin auto.

Irelia Bot37 votes

People fail to understand extra aspects of the game beyond damage sometimes.

Penns2 votes

Where did you ever mention laning or stuff like that tho? All you said were "wet noodle fights", which is a 1v1 between 2 tanks, or not?

AbiwonKenabi12 votes

A 1v1 between two tanks most frequently happens in the top lane, where tanks often go during lane phase and are left alone there for a while. So I think lane mechanics could be relevant here.

Penns2 votes

And lane mechanics dont matter in mid lane or 2v2 bot lane? Thing is, Malphite wont miss his Q, his E, his ult is close to undodgable as well. Same goes for Maokai, Nautilus, almost every tank. I dont see how its fun to watch tanks right click and press their button against each other.. Isnt that the general opinion too? "Lc$bigplays" wouldnt be a thing if tanks were that fun to watch, would it?

Ralanr5 votes

Granted that's a big part of the tank update. Reduce reliable damage (probably removing point and click abilities) and increasing unreliable damage.

Penns2 votes

If every tank did damage similar to like Sion does, Id probably like tank vs tank more than oneshot vs oneshot too. But right now its just like... "right click with your Sunfires" lol.

Ralanr8 votes

No more exiting then watching marksmen right click each other imo.

Penns1 votes

Well adcs are the same, yeah. But at least lethality adcs that are played now have some counterplay and mechanics.

Ralanr8 votes

I'm still seeing just right clicking.

Glory ln Death3 votes

Try watching a Sion vs Zac fight. It's freaking awesome (maybe watching it isnt, but playing it is epic). Just this constant dance to avoid abilities and destroy Zac's health blobs. It's basically a race to see if Sion can kill Zac before his mana runs out.

Keevalroy3 votes

That's the main issue - it's fun to play but not to watch. That's why Riot threw a fit at the end of season 5 and ruined everything with buffing playmakers, unleashing juggernauts upon the undeserving innocents, and nerfing tanks again all conveniently before Worlds as if they were willing to do everything in their power to artificially warp the game so they could glorify flashy plays and explosions for their precious spectator event.

They're so desperate for people to accept this game as a sport that they've forgotten that this is a game first, and that their manefesto claims they put the player first, not the spectators.

Keevalroy26 votes

This. I want to watch all of the new players (new meaning: started playing in season 6/7) cry about "not doing any damage" without building armor pen or percent damage, or freak out when they use a full rotation and their target is miraculously still alive. I want to watch them try and adapt to a game where they need to think about team comps, builds, and engages instead of picking someone overtuned, building full glass cannon, and blowing up everyone.

If Riot pulls this update off and we eventually go back to a midseason 5 state, it's gonna be so funny to watch.

Irelia Bot5 votes

I was hoping for season 2 to return.

But I tend to see people most commonly wanting season 2, mid season 4 and part of season 5 back most often.

I've been playing since end of season 3 and I've gotta say mid season 5 after they got the major tank abuse cases nerfed was the most fun I've had with League.

Teamfights were beautifully intricate and you actually had to pay attention to who you focused.

Wtf does wave management have to do with the meta. That's always in use, and never stops being used. The meta doesn't enforce wave management, good players always know how to play around the wave to get leads.

BluePolarizer4 votes

Wave management is very important in top lane tank vs. tank matchups because it is one of the only ways to get a lead, since you can't solo kill your opponent easily.

Nautilus vs Maokai. One of the first EU LCS games this season fnatic vs idk anymore G2 i think or giants. Camera not ONCE showed the toplane longer than a second+stupid commentary from casters about "boring wetnoodles" but showing ryze and the other midlaner insta clearing waves and walking back to turret for 10 minutes were entertaining and skillfull. Nevertheless mao and nauti started fighting. NAutilus let two waves stack up, cleared the enemy wave and fought maokai in it to kill him. Imo THAT was skillful, planing ahead and managing the waves to kill mao 2 mins later (which i love to do against those quinns and jayce top) but yeah not skillfull and boring and braindead and bla. Though both died there and maokai got killed by a caddie minion and i don't even want to quote what the casters said to the fight but it seriously and heavily annoyed me. A few minutes later Mao used his W to dodge dmg+CC and one of the caster comments was: here he showed us his full mechanical skill to press W. Amazing. Like wtf. It was perfectly timed to dodge those abilities and it needs skill. Watching this and hearing the casters made me realize rito is on a full crusade against tanks idk. IT annoyed me so heavily i didn't watch a single LCS game anymore. Rightclicking the enemy to death as Ashe is not more entertaining than this or pressing R as MF and deleting a whole team is not more skilfull than mao using his W to dodge dmg and CC.

Keevalroy7 votes

It's not really that it's a crusade against tanks, but a crusade to promote #LCS420NOSCOPEBIGPLAYS to draw in their new player crowd of low attention span CoD players.

SpecterVonBaren4 votes

You think that's bad, you should have seen the game Malz was picked in the LCS (before the rework). The casters were as bad as a toxic solo que rager, they would not shut up about the Malz pick and would make sure to talk about how "bad" it was every time something went wrong in the game, even though the team with Malz ended up winning in the end.

You'd rather watch a one sided game in your preference than a one sided game in Riots preference ?

Keevalroy4 votes

Considering Riot's preference created this dogshit state of gameplay which contradicts every philosophy they claim to follow and goes against the very concept of _common sense, _ of course.

Golden Tager X8 votes

So lemme get this straight, to outplay your opponent over a long period of time is less skillful than outplaying them for .5 sec?

Gotcha

Irelia Bot10 votes

That is an argument some people are triyng to make.

But a lux landing one Q out of 10 and gettign a kill is not what I would call more skillful then having 3 in a row control an enemy teams movement in a team fight.

GayFluffyUnicorn3 votes

Feels like this every time i play GP mid. Hit them with three barrels over the course of the last two minutes? NEvermind got cookies. Oh vel koz hit one Q and pressed R to delete me after missing his whole kit for 2 mins? Yup he outplayed me.

DeusVult1 votes

yes, but 90% of the problem right now is that everyone is playing squishy champs, across all roles. So when the MF ults, she SHOULD kill someone from full health if she lands a full ult, when she has full lethality and that person has 0 armor.

That is the unpopular truth. She is gonna do some damage to a tank, but not even half health them unless its super late game and she has a LW item. even then MF by herself wont 100-0 a tank with just her ult.

everyone is playing champs with the durability of wet-paper towels atm and complaining when they get one shot by champs who are purposely building items meant to kill targets with low armor. And still, they play these champs and build 0 armor.

Irelia Bot13 votes

She has a BC, hexdrinker and LDR. I have Trinity, Ninja Tabi and Omen with 175 armor

I take 1833 damage form her ult surviving with about 400 health.

I think things are a bit out of hand currently and building tanky does not feel rewarding.

Depárt1 votes

2 items designed majorly around making tank items not so tanky, and you are expecting to not take a lot of damage?

You only have 175 armor, that's hardly anything in a tanky perpsective. You're not a tank, you're a bruiser.

Also for mfs ult to do that much, it has to be full channeled and she has to be level 11 with at least 280 AD.

Her level 2 ult with 280 ad will do 2,940 damage before resistances, after LDR you'll have around 145 armor and after black cleaver you'll have 102 armor.

That's still slightly over 50% damage reduction, so before any percentage increases that's cut down to 1470.

We'll assume you have enough health over her for LDR percentage to take full effect, with the 15% bonus physical damage increase that number goes up to 1,691 with a full channel. Adding the rest of masteries and the 7% armor pen we can safely call it anywhere from 1800-1900 damage.

I didn't do the math on the last mastery part, so feel free to correct any numbers after the LDR bonus.

This is where it's not adding up, does does a MF have 280 AD with those items? 3 infernals by the time she has 2 1/2 items?

ChaosThief2 votes

The point is, bruiser tier defenses should not feel like you're a squishy champion. Tanks that fully built defensive items wouldn't hurt but could survive the enemy team's onslaught for a good 20 seconds, now a tank gets ripped apart with the same stats in about 3 seconds, maybe less.

Tanks are being discouraged, the only thing they're good for is CC and the only thing those tank stats do is keep them alive long enough to get the CC off.
