Well.... It's Finally Happened
I've played through the juggernaut path, the marksman update, the mage update, three seasons, and two preseasons. I've played loyally, and for all the faults and flaws there may have been I have enjoyed the game. I don't even have any problem with Dynamic Queue.
But all the same, it's finally happened.
There has finally been a meta created that genuinely hurts- maybe even endangers- my enjoyment of the game in its current form. And that is the Ghostblade assassination meta that has recently permeated the game.
Maybe it started with Lucian and the "Ghostcleaver" build that Riot tried to nerf, to limited success. Or maybe it started with Miss Fortune, who built the same combination and threw Duskblade into the mix. But when originally Youmuu's was a niche item used only on the likes of say Twitch or Talon or Zed or Hecarim, all of whom built it for its active and stats complementing their "first strike" playstyle, now you see it on virtually any and every commonly played ADC or fighter out there. Vayne, Lucian, Draven, Miss Fortune, Jhin, Quinn; Pantheon, Wukong, Yasuo; I could go on. The sad thing is, I really could.
I'm a Mastery 7 Kha'Zix main with a 55% winrate. And I'll admit, I build Youmuu's after my jungle item. The boost to my stats and damage output, combined with the active to get me in close for assassinations, is pretty valuable. But even I have to say.... I think Ghostblade is legitimately making the game less enjoyable for me. And this is, in as far as I can remember, the first time something has made the game more difficult for me to enjoy that couldn't just be banned away in champ select. Youmuu's is too splashable and abused by too many champions to possibly ban them all, and that's disregarding the unrelated problem champions. And that makes things frustrating.
I don't even know where I'm going with this rant, really. All I know is that despite my thorough enjoyment of playing assassins.... even I have to say Ghostblade is warping the game in a negative manner, and I really hope Riot does something about it quickly. But until then, I'm going into games much more somber and less enthusiastic. And that also makes me a bit sad.
