Fiora's W feels like delicious icing on top of an already impressive cake.

You could remove her W completely and she'd still have high mobility, sustain and damage in the early game.

And it would make her completely useless for the most part at her intended job. That is her only mitigation method against an enemy.

Tryndamere has an immortality ultimate. Yasuo has windwall and passive shield. Jax has Counterstrike. Xin has his knockback and knockup and innate healing in autoattacks without any specific condition like Fiora having to hit Vitals. Camille has her E stun and R untargetability. Etc.

But then have no defense against cc or cc of her own, making her useless

Yeah, but she would be demolished by a single CC, so she would be trash-tier in high Elos where people know how to counter-play, instead of God-tier. So, well, not exactly just the icing.

Such a squishy, full-damage champ needs some form of defense/mitigation. They all have some, from Yi untargetability+damage reduction to Yasuo windwall.
