Vladimir, the crimson... Mage? Diver? Juggernaut?

Vladimir has a SUPER cool gameplay fantasy. A powerful mage who uses other's blood against them and to make himself stronger! Blood is effing metal! Vladimir's kit is a tad scattered though. It certainly gained more skill expression and counterplay in the mage update, but it still seems to be split between two or three different roles and I feel dedication to a single role could help better emphasize his thematics.

Vladimir is classified as a battle mage, which basically means "ap damage dealer that we can't call a mage." He currently relies on a burst and escape combo, kind of like an assassin or a diver, but he has tons of short range aoe damage and heals, like a juggernaut. He lacks the engage and target access to be a true diver though, relying heavily on summoner spells with boots of lucidity. He also does not have the sheer tankiness or sustained healing that juggernauts typically use to live through team fights. This leaves him between two fantasies, not fully living out either. Is he a slippery and bursty flash of red, or a terrifying raid boss that thrashes everyone around him?

What do you think about Vlad's current state? What is his proper role and how well do you think he is performing it? What changes would he need to better fulfill it?

Vladimir is the remainder of a abandoned idea from riot, Tank mages. The list of tank mages would be.

Ryze Rumble Mordekaiser Swain Vladimir Galio Chogath

What is a tank mage? Well it's exactly as it sounds, a tank mage is a character who primarily builds ap, or maybe a mixture of AP and tank stats, and simply becomes a very tanky mage. Now while riot has reworked the older tank mages like Galio, or ryze and chogath, fact is, no new tank mage has been created in well over 3 years if you don't include reworks. To my knowledge Rumble is the newest one out of all of them, and it will probably be a concept riot will never re visit. So now riot is trying to find a way to rework/fit these champions into the game without completely deleting their identity, which is very challenging, because for a variety of reasons, the words.

"tank" and "mage" should never be put together. As for what should be done? personally I think they should remove the whole health/ap thing and just make it so he only heals period if he builds AP, forcing pure ap vlad builds and that has actually been the solution they had for the others.

Ryze: has to build pure ap, and in all honesty people over hype how "bad" he is, good ryzes can still win games

Rumble: has to build pure ap, but for the most part, besides rumbles release he was never really a huge problem.

Swain: still has clear issues that need to be adressed but he is getting a rework so fingers crossed.

Vladimir: IS ALMOST at that sweet spot for they did make his healing reliant on his AP, but problem is, he is still allowed to build tanky and be strong

Galio: Honestly his rework fixed all the issues, now he just builds as a pure tank and AP Gal is border line not viable at all, his damage is nothing over whelming, so they fixed it in the sense where they turned him into a tank.

I personally kind of like him how he is.

But the lack of diversity in mage items locks him into some not so optimal builds.

They are currently working on mage items so I really hope they bring back spell vamp in 1 or 2 items. That would help him a ton.

Gunblade is the only 1 technically (omnivamp) and although I like it the ad goes to waste. And if you buy gunblade you cant get protobelt and visa versa.

That being said. Gunblade and spirits gives you crazy healing. Throw a sunfire and a crystal sypter on that. And you have a fairly sustainable and utility build for longer fights. The gunblade build is garbage if you have no engage on your team though.

I would love an item that was 35 armor 30 mr. And 450 hp.

Passive. 15% spell vamp

Unique passive. Increase magic damage by 10% in an aoe around you. ^^^^^^ same one as absyl mask.

That would be super good on tons of champs. And i don't think it would be to op.

Vladdy boy is still a battle mage, his survivability is dependent on his healing, some extra durability from his passive and his blood puddle. He is similar to a jugg because of his Sustain and durability but he needs to be building AP first and foremost. If he was to be a mage jugg, he would have to tank armor items like item 3143 and item 3075 to be effective and just build one or two HP+AP items
