Helpful Tips For Mid Lane?

Room 36··3 votes·4,699 views

So, I'm a support main that decided to try out mid lane a while ago to spice things up a bit. However, every mid game I play I almost always am behind my laner by 50 - 100 CS, and I often end up dying during trades, most of them I don't initiate because I'm passive player by nature.

I know each champion lanes a bit differently, but I want to know: what are some basic tips you learned when going mid? And how can I efficiently stay in lane for a long period of time? Thanks.

Learn wave control.

Edit: and this is downvoted for what reason? You can literally lose lane off of having bad minion control morons.

if u want to play mid and play a easy champion, just play aurellion sol. He takes no skill to play or cs with, and his pressure on map is really good too.

Nice joke.

Summoner SpeII3 votes

asol mains are the most boosted things u see in high elo, they can't even dodge easy skill shots

MysticElephant3 votes

What the fuck does this have to do with the champion?

Your statement: Aurelion Sol is easy Your proof: The 5 games you had Aurelion Sol players in, they didn't do great.

Those 2 things have literally no correlation with each other.

Summoner SpeII2 votes

that is definitely not my experience, i play against asol mains that cant dodge a skill shot for their life and still get to win games because the champion is so easy

to cs u literally just have to hang around minions and let ur passive do the work while it auto shoves ur lane and u can press w if u want safety range, and u can roam around the map very easily in set directions while charging up a stun, those things hardly take any skill at all

Imo Aurelion Sol is one of the hardest champs in the game lol, I've played him a few times.

just play like you're 1v2 and the rest will come naturally. how to cs? practice lol or, if the last hitting isn't the issue and you just miss waves, be patient. count their minions, count yours, do you have more? start pushing, but maybe you wanna push slowly so each minion only gets 2 auto attacks instead of just 1. do they have more? wait lol, just wait. don't worry about 1, or 2 creeps just catch the wave. you'll be fine

did they roam? ping it, just once people don't listen anyway. maybe twice if you're nice. keep on farming. when you're done farming, if they're still at their roamed to location, go kill them, it'll be too easy unless they got some massive skill advantage on you.

I dont agree with your solution if they are still roamed i say just get plates and to snowball harder comming late to the party is almost never useful plates will get you more gold to more easily farm and push towers. the rest of your advice is pretty solid

well i'm assuming one would be a lvl ahead after catching an extra wave their opposite didn't catch, the plate is nice but one can just as easily roam and pick up stragglers which will be more consistent than the plate getting up to a certain elo i'm sure. ofc when you get passed that certain elo and people start playing league of legends against you then the plates are priority again, or sometimes you have to match roams instantly which i just honestly don't like doing but yoloq lost a few brain cells with the transition of seasons so pinging doesn't work anymore.

go to the sidelanes. Every low elo bot lane just wants to usurp mid for the tower and scavenge for CS. Leave them to die mid and farm up yourself bot or wherever the team isnt. Also take one camp and dip so your jungler doesnt get too upset

Just main Annie, she's super easy to play and do well on. Replying to what Summoner Spell said, DO NOT play Aurelion Sol if you want to have a good time, he is the single hardest mid laner in the game.

One of the tough things about mages is that their auto attacks are very slow and very weak, making it difficult to CS without spending mana, especially if you get shoved under tower. It takes a lot of practice on each particular champion to know how low a minion needs to be for you to be able to kill it with just an autoattack, and how to set up minions for the tower to help you CS rather than hurt you. This is why many mages are looking to shove and roam, to not only prevent that from happening and force it on their opponent, but also have a bigger influence on the map.

You may be tempted to put stealth wards in the brush alongside the river. Those are wimpy wards. They only really show you what's in the bush, and if the enemy jungler is already there, there's nothing you can do to stop the gank. Put control wards there instead. Put your stealth wards further into the river, so you can not only see when the jungler is approaching your bushes, but also when they are taking the other paths around the river. If you can, look to push up and drop a ward into the chicken pit to keep eyes on the enemy jungler's clear and pathing.

I emphasize warding because mid is not a 1v1 lane. It's more like 1.5v1.5, because junglers love to come through mid for ganks. You have the jungle on both sides of you, so it's critical for you to track where the enemy jungler is so you can not only push up and get aggressive, but also keep your teammates safe from ganks.

I'll try implementing everything you suggested next time I play mid. Thanks a dozen!

When you are just learning mid I would suggest the following:

  • Take something that farms really easy. Examples would be Annie Morgana Ahri.
  • Pick someone who doesn't have many or any hard counters. Examples, Ahri Morgana Lux .
  • Focus on learning how other people act. Knowing how someone moves when they want to trade or you are getting ganked is important information that translates to other champions you will play in the future.
  • Work on macro play. Mid lane is all about map influence. The faster you get used to the pattern of ward, shove, and look for roams the better.
  • Don't die. This might seem obvious, but mid lane is very easy to push after a kill. This means you will likely lose a lot of exp and gold in addition to laning against bursty mages and assassins that can easily snowball on you with a lead.

A ton of mid lane is experience. Nobody can even come close to explaining 10% of everything you need to know in this thread. Just focus on improving and watch a lot of videos to learn.

Its just CS'ing, im a top main that goes mid every once in a while and its just the CS'ing is harder because mages have worse AA's (the one I play normally is Swain )

Remember to ward one side of the river and play near that side (i.e, if you warded south then stick to the south side) because if the enemy comes to gank you, you can back off easily

Thats about it, the rest is matchup knowledge and general skill with your champion, unless of course your playing AurelionSol Talon TwistedFate in which case you need to learn about shoving waves to roam etc, if your vs this champions then you have to learn how to counter roam etc

If not then ignore that xD, Good luck

AD champs - Go aggro as fuck, assert dominance and free farm when they get scared.

AP champs - Play back a bit and get the farm you can, if someone is trying to force trades back up when they walk up, they'll waste time and miss CS trying

you cant be doing well in support if you passive.

If you’re low gold/silver mmr or lower it’s probably due to your team grouping up early and since people worry less about wave management they just come mid and take all the cs and then stand around and do nothing.

What I do to help alleviate this, make sure you get what you can get early and then make sure the areas you are walking through are properly warded.

Go either bot or top don’t push out too far, I will almost never go past river as a mage, the closer to tower the better. you pretty much want just 1 wave and then back to the team aram. Be quick about it though and if you get even a hint that they are going to engage or get engaged on rush back to them.
