Why can't I deal with Zyra / Ezreal bot?

I just got DOMINATED by these duo champs (two different sets of players, same champs.) The poke was just unbearable, she never seemed to go oom. I didn't get snared much but the plants zoned the shit out of me. Stepping on them before bloom didn't work as she just proc'd them when she seen me near 'em. It kept me on this stupid constant dance to try and farm, trade, dodge the snare, dodge plant damage, dodge ezreal skill shots, and watch for ganks. I had no idea how the hell I was even supposed to reach ezreal to do anything. I didn't feel like their skill level was that good, just more of me not knowing how to shut this shit down. Tips anyone? Pretty sick of losing.

Zyra main here. And I am assuming that I am talking to an adc main here...so...

  1. Get your support to do one of Zyra's many counters - Leona, Velkoz, Lux, Xerath, Miss Fortune, Fiddlesticks., Janna, etc. (Yes, Janna - shields do wonders in these sorts of lanes.)

  2. Don't take static adcs. Ashe, Jhin and Draven are like fertilizer for Zyra and her plants - if the adc stands still for too long then most Zyra players know how to root and set up the poke. Vayne, Jinx and Twitch are decent choices (either going for mobility or late game) . MF also works fine as the adc here - one notch in the movement speed ability and you can avoid a lot of poke.

  3. If it is too late and those choices aren't available then play the game knowing that you are going to be pushed in. Set one of the flex or defense runes for MR. Get what farm you can, freeze the lane in a good position, ask for ganks (hopefully without the ganker dying) and try not to get poked down too much. If you know that the lane will be lost, then practice that important skill known as "farming under tower" - and be ready to grab minions where you can when the tower falls.

Zyra is supposed to be a lane bully therefore it is supposed to be more difficult to play against than some other support. However, I think the main issue here is lack of understanding how zyra plants work.

As long as you keep hit and run you are unlikely hit by zyra skillshots and as long as you stay with your minions zyra plants won't attack you. Keep that in mind and things are much simpler.

Zyra won't run out of mana if you keep eating her skillshots, because then you get less HP and she triggers manaflow. If zyra misses her poke, she will quickly run out of mana.

Also, whenever zyra misses her poke with two W plants, there is a huge window of time (36 seconds) you can engage on her and she won't be able to fight back at all.
