Don't you hate getting MR, but your enemies bust through it unless you get 200?

Key point: They don't need Void Staff; they just ignore that you got an Abyssal Scepter and clobber you anyways with spells.

"You have 110 MR? LOL, that's actually 0!"

Pretty much how the game works most of the time.

you seem to want tank meta back

I want resistances to not be such a trap stat on non-tanks or non-juggernauts. All the means of bypassing it means you almost always get half the value of what you purchase.

You know math right?

1000hp+100mr= 2000dmg soaked before death. 1000hp+200mr=3000dmg soaked

2000hp+100mr=4000dmg soaked.

So...yeah don't expect to be tanky unless you get some hp. And there are plenty if options for that.

darkdill2 votes

I DO get HP and MR. Doesn't tend to make much of a difference.

I think he's talking about insta-gibbers. I kind of agree. Unless you're a tank there's practically no real reason to get MR items. They're still going to kill you in one or two hits.

darkdill2 votes

This, more or less. It's a bitch when Elise gives no shits about that Abyssal Scepter you just got.

WalkingInACircle1 votes

Abyssal works fine if you buy it first. No, 1 half defensive item won't overcome 3-4 offensive items. Though right now, I usually preference merc treads.

darkdill1 votes

My point is that you shouldn't die in the same number of shots as if you didn't have the Abyssal. Shouldn't Elise need to land one more Q or another spell to kill you rather than pretend you didn't have the MR?

300 mr might as well be 30 with these overtuned ap items that are out rn

Vayne Mr? Armor? Idgaf. It's all health to me.

Not trying to be rude or anything but just asking in case you haven't considered this yet... Most players get baited into buying resist items when they fall behind and expect it to do something when the enemy has already powered up. Buying resists don't do much at that stage because your opponent is already stronger than you. This is common in even platinum and diamond.

darkdill1 votes

Well, if you're in THAT situation, you might as well be dead in-game. If your opponent is so strong that resists mean nothing to them, they can completely deny you from farming, roaming, etc. And playing safe will be an invitation to be dived.

If you die once or twice it could very well mean the end of the laning phase. League is a snowball game where everything matters so dying just once could result in a lost lane. It all depends really. Dying once and losing a wave of CS can be worse than dying twice. There's a lot of factors. In some scenarios, resists really do mean nothing to the enemy laner once they already have a lead.

i agree to an extent. as vel'koz job is to shred tanks which is why he has true damage. the other mages however shred you even if your a tank.

Melledoneus1 votes

That's why your top laner or jungler should play a tank or bruiser. They soak up damage and make themselves the center of attention so that you can fling your spells or deal your damage without a lot of the heat. If the enemy has an assassin, a tank comes in handy.

Thank you for knowing what, "strengths and weaknesses" are

Do these ppl want a jinx that can't get blown up by a Mage and just face tank it?

Melledoneus1 votes

On the other hand, mages like Syndra and Cass shouldn't be able to burst as reliably as they do because their strength comes from set-up. When Cassiopeia can perma-slow you, allowing her to land all her skill shots at rapid-fire speed, it's just plain dumb. On the other hand, when Syndra can bring up 7 sphere ults in a single combo and one shot your carry with a targeted ability it's also not fair. She may be mid-ranged, but all she needs to do is engage with her E's stun and press R.

But sure, let's complain about Talon dealing lots of damage because he managed to walk up to you.

I mean, syndra and class are pretty broken atm, I get that a team needs different stuff that's all I was thanking u for <3

Astôlfo1 votes

Eh, the only ones who do enough burst to matter are mages right now basically, with a few exceptions. And literally every single AP burst damage champion can be countered by grouping and having at least one tank or solid source of CC.

Z Statistic1 votes

Burst damage works as a threshold mechanic. The space of time in which you get damage is so small that it might as well all be instant. So it is meaningless to calculate EHP for the purposes of 'dps'. There is no dps. It's all upfront. So the question then becomes whether you have enough defenses to survive the burst or not. If you do not, then there's no point in building defense.

This is why tanks build so much defense; they cannot afford to be killed in a 5v1 partial burst rotation because then there is no frontline.

darkdill1 votes

So is there never a point to squishies building to counter burst?

If that were the case, we wouldn't have item 3157 item 3139 item 3026 etc.

Z Statistic1 votes

Well, first of all, no one really buys GA anymore. Second, Scimitar is not a tank item. It is a cleanse that also helps protect you against ambient aoe dps, in which case it is very useful. Third, Zhonya's is also not a tank item. The active acts like an 'infinite' amount of defense in addition to its utility.

Fourth, and honestly my point, if defense were worth buying on squishies, then you would be seeing item 3742 item 3190 item 3143 item 3800 item 3068 item 3075 item 3083 being built on the ADC. But you don't. Because they don't add anything by themselves vs a fed Talon.

It is much better to simply position better and buy item 3046 or item 3812 or item 3072

darkdill1 votes

I didn't say they were tank items. I said they were counters to burst. Zhonya lets you dodge a burst of spells if timed right, GA makes burst-kills a waste because you'll survive it (as long as your team protects you while you revive), and Mercurial lets you avoid being CC'd (it doesn't remove other negative effects besides CC anymore).
