So when the enemy picks Kha, Zed, Ekko, Irelia & Vayne don't cry because you pick Ashe, Soraka, Viktor & Rengar and you're getting 'no peel'.

The amount of games I play this community thinks Garen can tank / peel in is shocking. He has a 1.5 second silence, that's it & even that is so bugged & telegraphed it's not even funny. Darius meanwhile is a bruiser but is tankier late game with the right runes (more HP per lvl) with CC and true damage. In fact anything that soaks damage to a reasonable level, can engage hard and CC is the tank you're looking for; NOT GAREN, he is more of an annoyance and/or finisher with his ult. But having health and absorbing DMG does not automatically make him the team tank.

Darius cant soak either, he has to land a very slow Q that any bit of mobility can allow people to dodge it (or you just slow him to death). The juggernaut rework is showing its age just like the tank rework is (minus Sej and Zac who got mini-updates, so its only Mao). Garen, Skarner, Darius, and Mao need a good chunk of work done to them to fix them. Villain takes too much power out of Garen's kit, Skarner's kit is just old and hes mainly a ult machine until Qss, Mao can't tank for shit even if he gets passive procs off, and Darius just lanebullies but falls off hard since slows and mobility exist everywhere.

Darius has in built sustain via Q. He absolutely can soak. gets more HP per lvl than Garen and seeing as only one defense item is ever required before diminishing returns I'd say that qualifies him as a soaker.

He also has cc. Hard cc. And true dmg. But I don't mean to focus on just him, there's others too. I'm simply highlighting the huge misconceptions around Garen.

Can is the key word. Darius CAN soak...if he isn't demolished before he has a chance to land Qs. And that's IF he lands Qs, which is actually more dependent on how sloppy the enemy is than how good the darius is. In other words, if the opponent is good, darius will miss most Qs and rarely get a three man Q, and will die incredibly fast late game.

In fact, Garen is far more DURABLE than darius and can last a lot longer in many circumstances as long as he activates his W at the right times. Why? because garen has much more armor and mr, and the % damage reduction is incredibly good and...GARENteed. Unlike Darius Q, which is only good when he is low hp and which is hard to use against: mobile champs, when cc locked, ranged champs, when instantly burst/dps'd down due to his lack of any steroid defenses. The only things that make darius at all durable are his strong base HP and Armor, and tanky items. Aside from that, Garen is FAR better at living through burst and about 6 seconds of heavy DPS (his W duration I believe?). Darius is stronger in a fight if he manages to last through that period of time and land Qs or get lucky enough to stack 5 on some poor out of position opponent.

But I agree that Garen isn't a tank, just that he easily soaks up more damage than darius initially in a fight

Garen generally ends up tankier than Darius because of his W passive giving him 50 armor and mr on top of his base values. Darius's in fight sustain with conqueror and his q can help him soak up a bit more damage, but unless he's hitting like 3 enemies with his q it's not enough healing to really make him more tanky than Garen. Plus, Garen has his w active that helps him be really tanky in practice in the right hands.

But yeah, neither one is a tank, though Darius has decent peel with his pull.
