Aurelion Sol nerfs

Thank god, he's broke as shit. I was scared that all the people crying that he was terrible would force Riot to buff him instead.

Thanks for not doing that thing, Riot.

How is he broke?

His utility in team fights is his only real strong point. His damage is meh till late mid unless he somehow gets fed. Easy to avoid his damage in lane and easy to kill or at least force out of lane with a lot of popular mids.

This is the experience I've have on both sides of the coin.

He's broken because he does so much more than just "add utiltiy to teamfights". He has incredible burst and can display it as early as levels 1 and 2. He's powerful enough in the early-game to be able to cheese the lane and burst someone down for first blood.

It's not easy to avoid his damage in lane and if he's a good Sol, it's not super easy to kill him or force him out of lane with popular mids that aren't assassins, and even then, usually he's going to be fine.

This video should help you understand more about Aurelion Sol. He has a very high skill ceiling and a very low skill floor, but he's rewarding as hell to play correctly. This champion just meshed with me the moment I picked him up for the first time. He was that champion, you know?

I had an Aurelion get very fed early game against a top Volibear. The rest of our team was doing average. Any and all CC on Aurelion completely negates everything about him. This Aurelion, while he played phenomenally, was completely useless once volibear turned on him. What people don't seem to understand is that he is one of the easiest champions to counter in the game. And if you successfully counter him, you make him more useless than any other champion in the game.

TL;DR - His high power level is warranted because of how small the window is in which he is capable to use that power. Outside of that window, he is free gold.

agreed

been playing him in ranked whenever I can, he's basically a free win if you aren't hard countered

baddies on boards are trying to pass him off as bad, lol

Then you aren't countering him properly. We had no assassin-type champions on our team and a support zilean-volibear combo managed to completely and utterly stop him dead in his tracks. And this was no pushover Aurelion either. This guy knew what he was doing and had been getting very fed off of roams.

Part of the reason he does so well currently is because:

  1. He is still brand new and people have not adjusted to his playstyle.
  2. He is banned in almost every game, so players do not get experience playing against him.
  3. If you don't strategize around him (which I find most teams don't do), you won't pick champions that shut him down.

I haven't seen an A.S. ban since a week after his release.

Yea, thats the real issue. Its the new champion ban train, combined with mixed messages from the community saying hes overpowered-underpowered. Truth is, hes overpowered in some ways and underpowered in others.

I don't counter him because I play him

I've done well even vs assassins and runaway Udyrs

he's definitely well-deserving of nerfs based on performance alone

Give it a week or two when people stop banning him. One of two things will happen:

  1. He will see play, people will realize how easy it is to counter him, and he will have an abysmal win rate.
  2. People won't play him because of the risk-reward paradigm and he will suffer the same fate as Illaoi (not played except by a few dedicated people), which will give him an abnormally high win rate.
