"Yuri" is often used as a first name for 1 reason and another across many culture; most known for being a Russian name, and also acceptable to be used as names in Greek, Hebrew, Japanese and Korean. "Yuri" in Hebrew stands for "the light of God" or something along those lines. "Yuri" in Japanese stands for "lily", which is just a type of flower. But most people only know "Yuri" because it's a given name for the lesbian-love subgenre of anime/manga.
