Why did an unranked duo who played all 3v3 flex placements together end up in different tiers?

Both my friend and I were unranked in 3v3 flex. I'm also unranked in solo/duo, while he's silver 5.

We decided to play our 3v3 flex placements together and won 9 games out of 10. I ended up in gold 1, while he was placed in plat 5.

I would like to know why that happened, because we've always played Twisted Treeline together, even normal games.

Maybe your MMRs were on the cusp of Plat V/Gold I and his was slightly higher than yours. No one will know because the system is hidden.

How can our respective MMRs be different if we've always played together, normal games included?

Is Summoner's Rift MMR taken into account? It wouldn't make much sense, cause it's an entirely different map, but I can't imagine any other possible explanation.

God knows. For all we know the algorithm could be random.

I remember reading somewhere that when you first try a new gamemode, it looks at your summoner's rift MMR for a good starting point. I forgot where I read this, so take it with a grain of salt.
