Why don't we see this more often? Will we with Knight's Vow?

Teams will often 4/1 split or even 1/3/1 split if their comp is built for it. Why don't teams ever 3/2 split? With the new Knight's Vow item it would be pretty strong, imagine a tank/bruiser top and a carry/assassin jungle splitting in one lane, with the mid adc and support in another. If your mid and support are decent at disengage, it wouldn't be bad.

3/2 splits just kind of require a lot of coordination. The 4/1 split is easy to understand, and it only takes one person to do a 1/3/1 split (the other split pusher). A 3/2 split requires the 2 people in the side lane to agree to push together while also communicating that they're splitting and the other team mates shouldn't join them.

This is me theorycrafting for a ranked team, so communication shouldn't be an issue. Good point though.

Even with Knights Vow, the ADC and Support would still be pretty vulnerable if they were on their own, or only had one other member.

Also, you need to consider how the enemy might defend against such a split push. A 5 man squad might push the 3 man back (and possibly overrun them) And they would be able to collapse on the 2 man lane. a 1-3-1 would have a similar problem, except that you are pushing 3 lanes and not just 2, which means the enemy would lose more resources, and if they did push the mid lane out, they would have to divide their squad to rout both split pushers.

And the 4-1, usually works because a 5v4 is still pretty hard to win decisively. (Meaning, quickly with few casualties) Also, the one member in the side lane, is usually going to be a duelist, They usually work best alone, than in a skirmish. And it usually takes more than 1 opponent to actually stop him. (With the right composition, a 4-1 can't be defended by another 4-1)

So you've explained when this strategy fails. I'm wondering, is there ever a time when it would be better than a 4/1?

Perhaps vs a splitpush comp? Your team of 2 can easily handle a duelist champion while the team of 3 can use their range and disengage to just play safe vs 4.
