I got you,

  1. GAREN ULT ACTIVE: Garen calls upon the might of Demacia to attempt to execute the target enemy champion, dealing them magic damage, converted to true damage when targeting the Villain. MAGIC DAMAGE: 175 / 350 / 525 (+ 28.6 / 33.3 / 40% of target's missing health). so you have at lvl 16 garen that is doing a BASE OF 525+ %hp. seems very reasonable

  2. Hexdrinker does not block true dmg

you are correct sir that item 3155 will not block true damage but if his target isnt the "villian" his ult will be nullified by item 3155 however i suggest vs a garen the better alternative to item 3155 would be item 3053 (if your ad of course ) because you have more hp which can help vs the true damage as the villian and the passive if you get bursted down it activates. also having more hp just helps in general vs all damage so even though you dont have any magic resist the bonus hp you get should be enough to keep alive with the passive as well.

Garen ult has no scaling. This means the only impact on it is the level of his ult and how low you are.

It doesn't change depending on his items or how fed he is, a two way street.

It is true damage to the villain which means it ignores resistances and things like spell shields iirc. Only actual shields should be blocking the dmg.

What % of your health did you have left?

Mind telling me how much % maximum health you had? Or are you just going to intentionally leave out information and leave your post in a misleading fashion?

had 2.9k with frozen mallet and such on riven. he went through my hexdrinker shield as well.

I think you misread what I said. I said how much % maximum health you had. Not your maximum health. How much DID you have when he ulted out of 2.9k? His ult scales off missing health and deals true damage if you're the Villain. Also the Hexdrinker shield does jackshit. It's true damage.

Because it was true damage since you were the villain.

vs garen as a any type of ad champ a item 3053 is more effective then item 3155 for his ult. you get bonus ad, bonus hp, and you have the passive if you take a big burst of damage you get a shield for 30% of your maximum hp and when the passive is activated you getting another +25% base ad damage. so you can have the hp and the passive shield that protects vs true damage burst and if you take the magic damage version of his ult you still have hp to sustain the magic damage and the passive shield that will proc.

i wouldnt have any clue why you get a mallet on Riven

This is normal, especially if you're the villain his Autoattacks/Judgement proc True Damage under his ultimate's Passive...

which is why I consider Garen's Villain mechanic really stupid.. if he gets on you, when you're the villain you basically die for free once, anytime you do too well.

It's what Garen does.. Not surprising. but even by the time he kills you, if he's focusing you and you're a frontliner, your team should be able to do something about that, if Garen is getting to you on the backline, your team isn't doing their job properly or you were out of position.. if Garen was in a bush.. He's a pokemon. he's in every bush, you should know that.

Except his AAs and other abilities (? not sure if his Q/E apply) only apply true damage equal to 1% per tick or something of that sort to the Villain.

thats true for every single juggernaut. if nasus gets on you, he chunks half your health with a q and kills you. if darius gets on you, he kills you. and the guy next to you, and the guy next to that.

the idea is not to let any of them get into range.

death recap doesnt cut off ovekill damage.

its likely that you had much less health than 1.1k when he ulted you. since the ability scales with missing health, death recap will often show 1k damage and upwards when he ults you on values like 500 health.

the lower you are, the more damage it will show, even though he didnt actually deal that much damage to you.

Garen's ult scales off missing HP. The only times it does 1k+ damage to the nemisis is if it's way overkill. Like for it to do that much damage you probably only had like 200hp left anyway. Most of it is wasted

Garen's ult only scales off of the targets missing health. Since you were the villain you took true damage so it ignored resistance and hexdrinker. Because you had 2.9k health, his ult would do 1.1k damage if you were at half health when he ulted you.

Garen is pretty weak right now, having his ult pack a punch is one of he only things going for him.
