Riot, I think it's time to move on. Or should I say, move forward.

I'll try to keep this short.

You have:

  1. Incredibly lore with captivating stories and tales.
  2. Fantastic art with imaginative details being absolutely poured into every piece.
  3. Wonderful world-building that is carefully pieced together to make as few holes as possible.
  4. Fantastic creative displays of different champions, different races, and how all these places move and live like they exist.

You've created a whole living, breathing world capable of so much exploration and development. And it's wasted on a game about people fighting in an arena on top of a mountain that sometimes interact with quips towards one another.

Runeterra is a living, breathing world, Riot! You've created a marvel of an environmental playplace that any MMORPG would drool at the thought of having the chance (and creative rights) to explore. Your partnership with Marvel Comics was a good start. Now make a game that lets us explore this world more than clicking on a map.

Make an MMO. Make an exploration game. Let us walk through Runeterra and interact with these great many characters and places to interact with.

Do it.

EDIT: Holy smoking raccoon bell whistles I log in to see this: https://i.imgur.com/zDFjfrl.png

Thanks for being here, but calm down guys lol

i cant even trust them to bugfix Mordekaiser much less make sure they dont pull a bethesda.

I've played alot of MMO's and I understand where you're coming from, but it's just not the right time for that anymore. Wildstar serves as a brilliant example of a game made beyond it's time. The market for MMO's has been winding down for a few years now.

MMO's are more than just exploration, they have to cater to raiders, pvpers and even still add something new to keep people coming back. I feel a co-op or single player foray into Runeterra would do better in offering a greater focus on exploration and personal experience.

Take inspiration from Tales from the Borderlands, a brilliant telltale games effort where Borderlands heroes unexpectedly lept into the players experience, crossing paths and performing amazing feats followed by impressive exits. Other good places to look are the original mass effect trilogy, which bristled with lore and engaging drama, and of course witcher 3 which did open world really well.

Riot was bought out in 2011 by tencent. Tencent owns an mmo called blade and soul.

If they make an MMO, they need to avoid doing what every other MMO does. Which is garbage combat mechanics. Enough with the ground targeting abilities and swinging at targets that don't react to melee weapons upon impact.

It is time for an MMO to have a Dark Souls style combat mechanics but have the overall movement more closely resemble Assassin's Creed. I am so sick of every MMO's combat copying each other. It was never good.

I have to say I like this idea. Make the name Riot GameS actually accurate.

Boiled Triangles12/21/2018, 12:59:31 AM6 votes

Yeah, give them another reason to completely ignore the state of their original game.

If this means we'll get more freljordian music then I'm in. seriously though I'd love to have a faction style MMO set within runeterra, each faction with their own unique races and classes like freljord's frost priest acting as their faction's enchanter supports, or a Black Rose agent acting like an Assassin within Noxus. I'd be great.

Rαy12/20/2018, 11:27:25 PM4 votes

Yes. Right after fixing this Call of Duty MOBA.

Kai Guy12/20/2018, 9:14:55 PM4 votes

I'd Play a faction style MMO with league lore. How ever I would also be happy to have a TBS/RTS with a good storyline that explores the world.

What makes this new game hype all the more frustrating is that we have not heard a single peep out of ANYONE or ANYTHING about what this game possibly could be. No leaks, no hints, not even a vague whisper.

They continue to divert more and more resources into it as time goes on, and all we know is that they are working on something.

But I am in the same exact boat, Melle. I've been BEGGING Riot to make an MMO, and so far, everything they've been putting out lore wise points towards such a game......at least in my eyes.

I can only imagine how aggravatingly painful it is for Rioters to stay quiet. I know they see all of this, and it must almost physically hurt them to not even mention that they are working on it.

Quáx12/20/2018, 9:48:04 PM3 votes

I'd be down to play an open world game with runtera sort of like World of Warcraft.

Butterwood12/20/2018, 9:52:00 PM3 votes

I'd love to be able to pick a champion and level them up, upgrading their skills / attributes as I see fit. You could make it server-based like Day Z so that you can't have duplicates of any champion on a server.

How can League become an MMO when there's no tanks and everyone oneshots all content?

Hammermancer12/23/2018, 11:21:30 PM2 votes

Riot games "We hear you, here's our new league of legends: Immortal For your mobile smartphone!"

YuGiHo12/20/2018, 10:45:58 PM2 votes

i like the lore they release but i dont get excited about it anymore. there are so many stories in motion within the world we know as Runeterra but, without any of these stories moving forward within the current timeline. everything i read from them feels like past tense and the heroes we know dont interact with each other towards any type of tangible objective or conflict. i want to know more about whats happening or going to happen in this world than what already happened and has no consequence to the world as we know it today.

Breezy Boyy12/20/2018, 11:27:21 PM2 votes

I wish they'd create a Skyrim-esque RPG. There doesn't even have to be a story, just let me explore Runeterra!

KFCeytron12/20/2018, 11:40:09 PM2 votes

Riot is moving forward - with Nexus Blitz, which adds battle royale-style gameplay introduced by PUBG and popularized by Fortnite. MMORPG is a deader genre than MOBA.

demonicthomas12/21/2018, 3:13:59 AM2 votes

three words. Blade and Soul. A hot garbage MMO made by Riot's slavelords. B&S is a huge failure, in the west at least, so they will never make it because they think it'ed just be a waste of money.

Not to mention they would charge $10 an hour for playtime.

FixThisBSGame12/21/2018, 6:10:54 AM2 votes

Yes, create a MMO and bankrupt your gaming company!

Rákãñ12/21/2018, 5:35:22 PM2 votes

If there a Vastaya player race, I'd pre-order it for sure.

Lovelle12/22/2018, 4:18:08 AM2 votes

I don't know if they could pull off a MMO since they don't like to listen to their playerbase. Unlike MOBAs, people will drop their subscriptions really quick when you stick with bad balancing decisions, and if they decided to go the F2P route it would be practically dead on arrival.

Kaisha12/22/2018, 5:29:54 AM2 votes

An MMO... with Ghostcrawler at the helm? Did you not see how his last time as an MMO lead dev went? Do people not learn or are they just masochistic?

Marlboro Monster12/21/2018, 9:25:41 AM1 votes

Fighting game when?

Bugg Shash12/21/2018, 7:32:41 AM1 votes

Create an FPS like Overwatch! League of Legends has much cooler champions than Overwatch.

ZroSlash12/21/2018, 4:06:01 AM1 votes

It is true that this would all be very VERY good things for an mmorpg but i dont see why you call it moving on or better yet moving forward see cause Riot made this game and it was a big hit and an even bigger hit now thanks to new champions youtubers streamers and more so instead of this moving on thing you speak of they should move up improve the game they made by itself

I hardly doubt that an MMORPG of this game or better yet with the same art and world style would be so popular or even for the better sounds like a waste of time money and hopes
