We actually like "basic" champs once in a while (I think) !

EDIT: I think you guys are confusing what I'm saying with easy. there's a difference between basic and easy

I really liked the simplicity of Taliyah. Her passive didn't require a PhD to understand, and all of her abilities are fairly straightforward. Q: 5 damage rocks then 1 damage rock W: Move them with rocks E: No dashing over rocks R: Big rock wall. Warwick was also pretty well done in terms of being basic.

Other notably simple champs I love: Twitch Kassadin Vi

Just saying we don't need calculus in all their spells to be a fun champ. Not saying I don't like complex champs Jhin Camille Yasuo Kindred , but its nice to have some refreshingly simple champs where I don't need to watch the spotlight 4 times just to get the basics.

Taliyah is an odd choice. Her kit is basic. Q is damage, W is CC, E is tacked on DPS and her Ult is a wall. But the kit in itself has a lot of little nuances that make her hard to function on a fundamental level. She's not really the kind of champ you can pick up and do really well as, unlike Morgana or Lux

Despite what some MIGHT say, I find Jhin pretty hard to play, sames goes for Lucian. You can't just Orb-walk naturally, you have to like weave abilities through his auto-attacks and it's all too complex for a Miss Fortune player like myself.

Personally I love simple champions SO much more then I do complicated ones. I don't want to have to read a patch note for a passive and being able to pick up a champion and do well as them get rid of that entire learning curve frustration.

Oelyk1 votes

I like jhin because you don't have to adjust orb-walking over game length cause attack speed is always the same.

Mira Arya Enthe6 votes

I'd also love some more visually and thematically simple champions. Not everything has to be an a-symmetrical oddjob with a backstory with as much "complexity" and "Twists" as an M. Night Shyamalan movie.

SweedishGunner1 votes

Rek'Sai fills this void (heh). I know she's pretty old by now but she's simply the queen of her species that lives in Shurima and hunts people to eat.

She also looks pretty simple and doesn't have loads of crazy particles and animations etc.

SpookyNeedle5 votes

AurelionSol is simple Jhin is simple Lemme explain jhin's abilities. Passive- more AD based on attack speed and similar things, W and teammates apply a mark, 4 shot ammo system replaces aa's Q- bouncing grenade that hurts more if it kills more in the previous bounces W- long ranged linear skillshot that stuns marked targets if hit E- invisible trap that slows, applies mark R- 4 long ranged shots that slow, 4th crits

Now you might think, that's not basic. That's because I didn't dumb it down very much and made it a lot of words.

Also Kindred isn't complex Passive- marks enemy camps that give a permanent dmg increase for each one killed, you can choose an enemy champ to mark as well. Q- short dash that fires 3 arrows W- circle area that makes Q have a lower cd and has a wolf that aa's E- targetted slow that has a 3 hit passive R- aoe death nullifier for both teams

Maybe I'm crazy… I find these champs simple. Not quite as basic as Annie but not quite as hard asAzir someone I find truly complex

BIG DADDY BARD7 votes

Azir: Passive: spawns mini turrets on dead turrets Q: moves soldiers W: makes a sand soldier, they basic attack for azir E: azir dashes to sand soldiers R: azir shoots out a wall that enemies cannot pass over

BLACK REALM GOD17 votes

just goes to how that when you take the numbers out of a champions kit anything can be simple.

BIG DADDY BARD2 votes

Exactly my point, him saying that jhin is simple then that azir is hard confused me.

50000000000000003 votes

I mean, Azir's spells individually are simple. How the simple spells interact to create a complex gameplay is something different. It's also true that some champions aren't very complex, but just difficult to explain with few words. Jhin's abilities are fairly simple.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

I mean incomparison to Jhin, Miss Fortune is Q: Bouncy Damage. W: Attack Speed. E: Slow R: Lots of Damage.

The fact you even need to explain his abilities doesn't really make him sound all the easy. I've played him a few times, and alongside Lucian and Graves, he just really doesn't function like a normal ADC and he's kinda hard to pick up and do well as. Whereas if I pick up MissFortune Ashe or Caitlyn I'm guaranteed to do fine as they're just that easy. He's really not your average ADC.

Chromatic Eagle3 votes

Honestly I don't think Jhin is terribly hard besides his ult (after I press r, do i just point and click, or spam r?), and the passive regarding his stats.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

I mean you can't naturally orb-walk, he has no self-peel, his AOE Damage is pretty neglible and he can't deal with Tanks, which is basically the one thing that Marksman are meant to do.

He's just extremely different to every other ADC.

As for the "complex" champs you mentioned - less straightforward abilities than some =/= complex. Yeah, Yasuo and Jhin have a paragraph for their ability descriptions instead of sentence. So what? You read the ability description on surrender at 20 pbe update, watch the spotlight, and you know what the champion does. Ive never felt frustrated at all with the time it takes to learn what an ability does.

Mostro Gallo2 votes

The thing is that champions NEED to be complex at this point. The current champion pool is very large (almost too large, in my opinion). Adding simple champions to the mix runs the risk of homogeneity and identity overlap. The more complex a champion is, the more unique it is.

That's why I advocate a hiatus in the release of new champions. Riot should just prioritize reworking old champions.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Basi abilities to play doesn't mean "basic"(easy) to use.

Ideally, a beginner champ has both basic abilities that don't put strain on the new player to go through, and easy to use.

As a consequence, those champs will have lower skill ceilings, and just end up being worse than whatever more difficult, higher skill ceiling, complex champ there is out there.

Garen would fit that, and his "more advanced" counterpart would be Darius.

Basic does not mean easy.

In fact, basic kits can be some of the hardest to master because they aren't crammed full of extra abilities, passives, toggles, and all sorts of other junk.

basic means that there isn't a lot to read through and/or understand. Most abilities will have one or two effects, with each effect relying on one stat. Jhin is one of the most complex champs probably just by virtue of his passive, since it changes so much about what is otherwise a pretty consistent and basic concept. not that that makes him more difficult to play than taliyah, i'm aware that taliyah's comboes are considered some of the more difficult ones to pull off, simply that when you take a look at taliyah's abilities, you understand them more quickly and often the first time through, whereas i have experienced multiple people who really don't understand jhin's passive, aside from "attack less, attack harder", which really doesn't do it much justice.

Kled is a little tricky to figure out at first, actually, mainly because his lane phase is awkward if you aren't practiced at recharging your courage. Probably easier than many others though.

Oelyk1 votes

I agree with most of them except Gnar and possibly Vladimir based on the pure fact that there power spikes are on a short timer they cant control directly, requiring expierience and knowledge to work with. edit: add Jax and Irelia and most attack spd bruisers, they are straight forward enough with there kits.

Janna mìd1 votes

Anivia AurelionSol Taliyah TwistedFate Easy to pick up and play .-.

OyddAWqJ5r1 votes

Yup. I have 0 experience on those champs other than TF but can easily say I could pick up and play em all in 2-3 games. TF is a no-brainer.

Knowing the fundamentals of playing the game in order to play simplistic champions to maximum efficiency is a separate unrelated topic from how easy a champion is to pick up and play said simplistic champion is.

It's actually a design philosophy that Riot tries to adhere to more often than not, so the majority of the playerbase can enjoy the majority of the cast.

Janna mìd1 votes

I don't know much about tf since i never play him (anivia neither) but based on what i heard, those champs are hard to play actually (and when i picked up taliyah and aurelion i wasn't effective a lot of games, it's not even like aurelion got a kit that is straightforward)

OyddAWqJ5r1 votes

Low skill floor. Easy to play.

High skill cap. Hard to master.

Janna mìd1 votes

The thing is taliyah isn't easy to play and to master, same with aurelion, and i don't know about the others kassadin is easy to play for example or kled

OyddAWqJ5r1 votes

Kassadin is just as hard to play effectively as Taliyah and Sol.

I dunno what you're thinking makes either harder. If I put 2 bronzies vs each other mid lane 1v1 as Kass vs Taliyah or Kass vs Sol I can easily say the Taliyah/Sol will win hands down.

Any champ is easy to pick up and play - that's literally every champ. Being effective, however, is where complexity comes in. Ahri, Gnar, Hecarim, Pantheon, Olaf, Renekton, and Shyvana require a bit more than just "pick up, play, win." Their kits require a bit more concerted mental effort to do well with them, especially since most of them are high risk/high reward champions.

OyddAWqJ5r1 votes

Essentially. But we weren't talking effectiveness. OP was talking of how Taliyah is a "breath of fresh air easy to play champ" when the game is literally filled with them.

How is Jihn complex? I mean he scales with everything you can basically build any adc build and it will work. His abilities are really easy to understand as is his ammo system.

the weeaboo1 votes

Give a new player Miss Fortune, then give them Jhin. Who will they do better on.

Borbland1 votes

I personally like more "over"loaded champions as long they know how to balance them. Sadly, its often not the case and they end up broken (Mostly when they do overloaded bruisers or assassins)

Mighty Mortein1 votes

Leona Super simple, heavy CC, really tanky.

P: Magic damage for allies when you hit enemies with spells.

Q: Stun.

W: Armor and MR resistance.

E. Snare/dash

R. AoE Stun/slow which gives you a bit of an AA range buff.

Common combination - W, Q, E, AA with stun ready, ult if they're running.

Hauling Ashe1 votes

We also would appreciate some less mobile champs, ya know? I'm not saying champs with mobility are bad, but soon the champs without a dash, jump, burrow, or Olaf ult will be in the minority and unplayable.
