Unpopular Opinion: Damage Isn't Too High
A bit about me to save you guys the trouble of rushing to op.gg, I've been playing since season 1. I've been Gold+ in every season that I played in. There have been a couple in there that I skipped. The highest I've gotten was Platinum 2 a couple of season ago. I'm currently Platinum 4, but I only played a couple of months this season, and hit a bit off a loss streak shortly after hitting Platinum 4 and didn't want to risk falling back down right before the season end, so I stopped.
I main Rammus, and play him almost exclusively. When I don't manage to get Rammus, I play other tank champions like Amumu and Maokai.
So if anyone should be crying about a "damage meta" it's probably me. Instead, what I've found is that tanks with tank itemization generally get beefy enough to survive focus fire 5-6 times longer than squishies with no tank itemization. Tanks can tank a turret for a long time, long enough for some teams to burst them down even without minions post 20 minutes. They fulfill a role and their itemization options go a long way to supporting that effort.
