Maybe Sightstone should be removed. Hear me out.

In the past, vision was optional. Riot just put wards in the shop and let players figure out how to best use it, or not. So of course we made the support buy most of them and it was terrible mostly in solo queue where it took away individual player agency unless the support decided not to be a team player. So that's why we have trinkets.

Sightstone is a remnant of the old way. The support player is expected to spend gold, an item slot, and give up early stats to get it. This takes away player agency. The support player either gives up agency or isn't a team player.

I just had two games in a row where our support didn't buy a sightstone and we had a vision problem because the enemy team had better vision. I don't like to be that guy who tells another player what to do, but what else can you do? If you want to win you have to point out problems and try to fix them. This situation is frustrating for everyone. It's really hard to play when the other team has a vision advantage. Its also frustrating to know that it's because one person on your team decided to be selfish. It's frustrating for the support to be expected to buy a boring item that doesn't actually do anything cool.

I liked the move to trinkets because it basically forces players to have vision capabilities. The problem is we still depend on the support to provide additional vision if they feel like it. It shouldn't be like that. We should have a reasonable amount of wards available to the team as a baseline and additional vision should be in things like Frost Queen's Claim, scouting tools.

PS - can we also get a consumable slot for control wards?

First off, holy cow thought you left for good back in season 3/4. Second off, I think what would happen is the same thing as previous seasons. Some players ward and others dont but the other team having better warding habits will still screw you over. Not worth the trade off in my opinon seeing as sight stone is already technically optional.

I learned that I'll never be able to quit for good so I gave up on trying to quit. lol :(

I mean if the warding was spread evenly via trinkets then one guy forgetting to ward, or warding ineffectively would be less of an impact than currently the support not buying sightstone.

Numbers just pulled out of my ass but imagine trinkets are 50% of a team's wards, and sightstone is the other 50%. If the support doesn't buy it you lose 50% of your wards. If trinkets are 100% and one guy doesn't use it, then you lose only 20% of your wards.

Each player's warding habits would matter more instead of so much of it being dependent on one player and that player deciding between agency or being a team player.

I feel like just the consumable ward slot is enough honestly

Honestly, Warding isn't that important as a support unless no one else is doing it. Hence people rushing Ardent for so long and completely ignoring SS.

Nowadays I tend to wait until lvl9 to pick up SS+Sweeper, and just rely on mine and my ADC's yellow trinket until then. Other things just feel more important for the early game, especially when free wards are already provided in the first place.

The problem is when the support never buys SS for the whole game. Sometimes people just decide not to and it really sucks because the enemy team has more sweepers and more wards.
