And not because of the mechanical skill level of players or map awareness, but rather the hubris of everyone in the elo...
People think they are so much better than they actually are and it actually causes them to play worse and make low level decisions, it's ironic.

There's definitely hubris existing at every elo, but I've found it to be so much worse at plat because people feel "oh I'm plat now so I know the game" and because of this are really thickheaded in chat ontop of having very fragile egos... even though there's marginal difference between gold I and plat V
