Has anyone ever tried to build Vayne as a tank? I swear I am not trolling or joking here. Her W scales off HP, rather than AD, and not her HP anyway, a bit like and his cleaver.

So, I wonder... What if someone builds an AS item and then full tank on her? Sure she won't push as hard as she would, but she can now insec enemies, soak some damage, deal true damage often and not be at any disadvantage with her short range (since the only other ranged tank right now is Urgot, and Thresh, despite not being listed as such). Plus, out of habit, enemies might even focus her!

Maybe rushing a or a or even a and then building either or according to her enemy.

It might not be the best idea but... what exactly stops her from being played as a tank?

her passive scales with your targets HP, not yours.

vs darius top. pretty easy game. not a great test overall as there was no lategame to gauge overall scaling, but i was pumping out damage pretty fast on the rare occasion that anyone wanted to mess with me. this suprized me a bit as i had one offensive item, 4 points in offense masteries, and defensive quints.

perhaps vaynes base damage is enough afterall

I know someone already answered your question, but...building squishies as tanks is almost never a good idea, they just don't have the stats or kits for it. Sure, if you have enough gold they can function as a tank, but they most likely won't work as well as natural tanks would. Vayne is the perfect definition of a glass cannon, especially early. She melts if someone breathes on her. Unless your enemy is at a disadvantage or they just aren't good, you'll most likely get destroyed.
