Should I main support? And why I want to.

Okay so last game i played Jhin in queue my supp picked Katarina and her premade top picked Lux and I was okay, first was afraid of Katarina supporting me but when i saw Lux it was ok. But when game started Lux bought item 1056 and stated taking my farm and last hitting minions and went into 2v1 situation and died. I was tilted 20 cs in 10 minutes and premade flaming me like "Look at your cs..",but they were trolling Kata was trolling on top and Lux was stealing farm and so on. Now i came to an idea to become support main,to help people who get in these situations when nobody wants to play support and for some reason it's better to f**k up everyone's game than to just dodge the game. Should I main support and should it be someone like Alistar or Zilean or someone with high kill presure like Thresh and Pyke . Thank you.

I feel support is actually a very rewarding role to play if you play it well. I'm a support secondary person and I like to play lulu and nami personally.

The most important piece of advice I have though is, if you want to main support, you should be flexible. Sometimes supports end up having to fill gaps in teamcomps. Good supports that I feel fit almost anywhere are ones like Alistar, Thresh, Nami, Braum, and Taric. :) you definitely want at least one peel heavy enchanter in your repetoir and that doesn't necessarily mean playing a heal bot or shield bot. Taric and Nami are both enchanters that are really good at making plays. You could also try Tahm Kench in teams that already have some kind of enage; I dont feel kench is good unless he's on a team that already has strong engage.

Pyke is fun but I find that he works best with an ADC who can either care for themselves(ezreal, tristana, Cait) or want to go in and get a huge lead in laning(MF, Draven, Quinn). I wouldn't make him the only support you play because your lane will flounder a bit if you have an ADC like kog or varus or jinx who kind of wants to sit back and chill.

If you think playing with a support who steals CS is infuriating. You will hate playing support to an ADC who cant CS.

The problem with support in low elo is you have very little agency over your game. And sadly it feels like your worth is tied to your teammates ability to do the bare minimums.

Supports amplify carries. So a good support makes a decent carry great. At tye same time a good support makes a bad carry toxic. Because you will know its a bad match and they wont.

Avoid playing support unless you have some adcs you're friends with and you can duo with until mid gold.

If you really want to play support after reading this. Than play support with the expressed purpose of finding an ADC you want to duo with.

I will stick to adc and will try to play more games premade I just don't know why is it fun to take my cs or to play Katarina support. When I get autofilled I pick normal supp or if I really don't want to play supp i dodge. Also I feel better when my supp takes kills than cs. Also if someone want's to play support but wants kills and high damage why don't they pick Fiddle,Brand or Vel'Koz

Play support and your adc will troll, or be horrifically bad... that's the general rule, especially in low elo.

Zilean's a high APS support, I rank him as the hardest, he's a little harder than Thresh, and people might just dodge on you because most Zils are trash. If you have the high mechanics for Zilean you'll probably achieve more with ADCs.

If you play Thresh you'll get fewer dodges but people will flame the * out of you until you get good, then you'll realize no-one in low elo knows how to play with him, because no-one knows how to play him. I fricken love him, but the moment you lose a game over a lantern you're going to realize what hell you've unleashed upon yourself.

Pyke might get you flamed--- IDK, I haven't made an ADC suffer through that yet, but I ADC'd for my friend (a REALLY good Pyke btw) if he snowballed, he'd get strong enough to make solo plays, so he's no longer playmaking for his ADC since he doesn't need them. I end up left in lane to farm, often 1v2, which is fine, but I'm twiddling my thumbs. And if he failed to snowball? His peel was absolute trash-tier and we'd get run over by a freight train. He's really fun for the Pyke player but I'd be shocked if ADC mains don't hate him.

So with those three choices, your ADC is tilted anyway. XD

But onto the general topic-- play support as your role? If you're doing it to be nice, you totally have the MENTALITY for a support main. But consider being selfish for a moment. How much do you like playing Jhin and other ADCs? It'd better to fall in love with champions and playstyles than play the game to be nice to other people that you don't even know.

rtbf2235272583 votes

Oh the flamers.... My friend is Thresh main and he is pretty good with him last game we played his adc was so toxic. He had 14 kills and Thresh had 20 assists and couple of times adc died and he just blame Thresh and wrote in all chat to report him. No matter what you do and gow many kills you give to your team you will always be the one who sucks and the one who will be flamed.

Pyke is very strong because he can end teamfights very quickly.

Rakan can initiate very well too

support is one of the easiest ways to get a win, so if you mainly just want wins? yes play support the role is fucking broken.

Look at it like this, as long as you play better than the enemy support you win for 2/5 people in your team unless your adc is literally afk. That's half your team that just won.

Don't play shit that can't somewhat carry. Like naut is a terrible pick rn because you'll just be doing your thing knocking up 5, locking down a priority target. meanwhile your team is trying to 4v1 the enemy mundo.

if they pick jinx or anything with even less mobility than her, either don't play pyke or make sure you completely stomp the enemy botlane because you're absolutely useless to her as you can't peel as well as something like alistar and you'll most likely prefer to engage anyway.

I'm a support "Main" who finished Silver 5 with Bronze MMR last season. I was playing in the midlane at the time.

My main role is actually ADC, but I pick champions that have a difficult time 2v1'ing a lane. I'm also not a Master tier smurf, so outright lane stomps can be challenging for me if my support is ... less than ideal. I started this season in Bronze 1 after going 8-2 in my placements. My MMR from last season was awful :)

I immediately switched to support after having a couple rough games with autofilled supports. I'm now in Gold 5 with a 62% WR. I'm pretty confident I could get to Platinum+ this season, it's just unlikely I'll be grinding out that many games.

Advantages to playing Support (in any division):

  1. Supports dictate the lane. You can easily carry a bad ADC through a lane if you know what you're doing.
  2. You gain a strong understanding of macro play, and how to carry leads from your lane (or others) into a victory. If you're not playing a "carry" style support, you will be forced to learn how to carry your team through macro plays. Learning this is important.
  3. The chances of you playing against an autofilled support are high, particularly at low MMR. Because you will be the more experienced player for that role in the majority of your matchups, you can steamroll the opposing botlane.
  4. You'll get really good at warding. Vision wins games, period. There's a reason why pro-teams will sometimes go for full on teamfights over vision. Learning to become your team's own miniature maphack is invaluable for high level play.
  5. You are inherently weaker than anyone else on the map (aside from your opposing counterpart), simply because you have less gold and levels. This not only helps you learn how to play from behind (since you are basically always "behind" as a support), but can teach you how to be useful to your team in fights regardless of your gold value.

Most of the things you'll learn as a support will apply if you decide to swap back to another role.

Just my two cents. It worked for me, and I enjoy playing the role. Lots of people recommend Brand or Lux , and I think they're both good. It helps to have a few champions you can play, so that you can pick what fits your team's composition. I use Alistar Morgana Lulu, which are all very strong right now. I also keep Rakan SorakaLeona in my back pocket. I'd like to add Thresh Bard Braum to my pool at some point.

Hope this helped! Good luck on the rift!

Good thing about maining support is that your team has higher chances of winning than with auto-filled one. First auto-filled one will not be as good as a supp main and also he even don't want to play supp and he trolls so your team will lose. Also I am thinking to keep being MissFortune main or becoming supp main and playin someone of Braum or Bard ... so if somebody can help i'd be happy.

DemonBoneJangles2 votes

Being a support main myself I can say that you need to be flexible like otterlylost mentioned, you can easily win if your adc is better than the enemy but if you have a toxic adc then you need to focus on supporting your team just as much if not more than your adc, this doesn't mean leave lane and let him fail but it means prioritizing objectives over kills especially if you and your adc are losing lane, you also want to make sure that you know the champion you are playing and how it pairs with the champion your partner has picked and how it benefits your team comp.

Nautilus isn't bad but unless you have an agressive adc you will often find yourself fighting 1v2 in lane or engageing more often to wear the enemy down. Also take runes that benefit your playstyle so you are still comfortable if you have to cover for someone in the team

You should get one 'aggro' support and one 'passive' support

If you want a one size fit all support you should go wtih thresh/morg

Playing adc for a season or two resulted in me seeing a lot of really bad support players, which resulted in me swapping to being a support main since I felt I could do it better (and it got me diamond, so I wasn't wrong).

Seeing a lot of relatively bad adc players happens as a support player and it feels pretty bad to set something up but have the adc not actually take advantage of it (or even simply cry as cs they mess up last hitting stuff), but I still feel like theres more decent adc's out there then there are decent supports, so if you have support skills then it's a good plan. (Make sure you actually are a good support though...part of the reason I feel like theres so few decent supports is the number of people who assume it's easy and never really play it, and then play it very poorly when they're forced to since they have no idea how to pressure without inting and also maintain proper vision and so forth.)

Problem is that both roles are underrated and adc's and support's usually get auto-filled so they are bad at knowing what is point of their role...everybody wants to play Zed mid lane and Riven top also people like playing jungle and everybody wants to make a sick play and they think you can't make plays as supp or adc. They never had a feeling when you play MF and your Alistar knocks up 3 enemies abd you ult and take triple. Everybody wants to make penta with Yasuo and Zed but they don't know that easiest role to get penta is adc. Also I feel better when i get 4 assists than quadra or savin my team from death (like being Braum while enemy Jhin is ulting).

Supports are the moms taking care of their babies. Early they take care of them by trying to make them strong so later they can carry the mom. The worst part about being a supp is that you really have to rely on your team to do something because it won't be a support that is going to kill every enemy on the team so you can get to their nexus. You try to give your team what they need to be sucessful.

Going support without a friend you're okay with can make the game feel more random and flip-coined. You have a general idea of what to expect of your team but not totally and adapt your playstyle to that. The only time where that wasn't true was when season 7 had items and masterys that favored the most simple supports like nami, soraka, nami or janna. You didn't need to be good to climb, just take something simple and easy and most of the time you'd be okay with it.

Now with those masteries, items and shield nerfs, the tankier cc supps like thresh, braum, leona are better not just because the enchanter supps are weaker but also because the ''normal'' ads are having some problems with their armor, hp and item nerfs, and that favors lethality builds for jhin and miss fortune and also supports that can allow your team to cc and burst the enemy or at least give a good poke.

  1. I play a good deal of support and its usually allows me to pick any champ from a large list. I usually just look at what my team needs and go for something that fits into that role. Personal favorites are Chogath Thresh Rakan Karma since i like to play catchers (as karma i go glacial and "catch" people with glp plus w or with twin shadows.)

Its a little weak early but I go Gaurdian- font of life- second wind- overgrow with domination for zombie ward- ingenious hunter.

I work around purely disengageing the enemy team from the adc until i can get an item or two. Usually i build item 3401 item 3109 item 3800 item 3190 item 1001 and the last item is a tanky counter to the enemy team or if im ahead i go foritem 3193 . using ingenious hunter and zombie ward i have constant ward coverage so i can keep an eye on drag (and take it in any case we can get a kill bot with out me using my R) I basically just follow the carry around and use my cc to shut down any would be assassins. I like to max my q into w for more cc up time. But do be careful if you play this way that all the active items are where there suppose to be (to many times have i placed wards instead of using a locket because i forgot to rearange my items)

If your starting support in lower ELO's pick a mage till Gold. Sadly, if you go Nami/Janna and your ADC is iffy your not going to be relevant.

I have easier times winning games in Gold right now as support than I ever did in Bronze or Silver just for the fact of inconsistent matchmaking. It's easier to win games in higher ELO as support and not really recommended to climb initially.

Pick Brand, it doesn't matter how bad your team is you'll still be relevant all game.

Supports are for the people who love protecting and healing people. In fact the kindest players you will find in any online games are support mains. so if you want to keep you mates alive and give them buff. Support is for you man.

Here is what you go one ofthe two starts: 1- Nami. Great healer. and one of the strongest healer available. Passive - Any ally you use your ability on will give them extra mov speed for some seconds. with the ultimate it is doubled Q - does good damage and can AOE knock up the enemy and makes them visible. Very good to ruin campers. W- Best heal on game. point and click ability with each bounce does extra healing or damage. but very expensive for mana so manage your mana wisely. E- Gives your ally 3 bubbles that does extra damage and slows the enemy on hit. R- An engage or disengage ability. anyone being hit by it will be slowed and take damage and knocked up and if the ally hits it they gain double the passive.

2- Janna. Great Shielding support. one of the best shields in the game. Passive - gain extra move speed. any ally moving to you will get extra mov speed. your aa and W gians extra damage depending on your mov speed. Q- tornado very good escaping ability. or to not let the enemy escape. the more it charges the further it goes and more damage it deals W- point and click ability. it increases with ap + mov speed. also hitting the enemy with it slows them. the W passive gives you extra mov speed and it is a free summoner 6 . E- One of the best thing in her kit. The shield is strong and it gives your ally extra damage for them. you know she also shield turrets so she is a life saver! R- AOE heals and any nearby enemy she knocks them away and stuns them for a moment.

Go for one of these for now before playing anything else. atm Nami is the best.

I do want to say that you shouldn't play support just out of a feeling of obligation; it should be because you enjoy the role itself. I admit that you're more likely to play with a terrible, annoying support than any other role just because of how different it is from other roles, so I understand wanting to eliminate that variable, though.

I decided to commit to maining Support and here is my biggest frustration. I try to play the role correctly, fight for vision, clear wards, etc. But I routinely get outplayed/outdamaged/beaten (whichever you prefer) by Lux/Brand/etc. players who don't play Support but who got autofilled to Support, thinking they'll just take their AP Mid Champion Bot, build a Frostfang and then 100% AP and call it a day. They'll have purchased 1-2 Control Wards in a 40 minute game.

It is extremely frustrating to constantly lose to these players who refuse to learn/play the role, where they get rewarded because pure damage is generally more useful in an uncoordinated environment than vision control/utility is. If a player got autofilled to any other role and treated it like autofilled Supports treat their role (ie. lock in their Mid one-trick, build Frostfang to "Support", then 100% AP, take farm, barely ward, etc.), they would get 9x'd. But it's overlooked because they one-shot until late-game thanks to base damages (looking at Brand) and they generally win their lane due to the damage so it's largely unclear that they did not perform their assigned role. Meanwhile if an auto-filled Jungler neglected to take Smite, they'd certainly get 9x'd. The transgression is similar, but the degree to which players will notice is very different in each case, which is unfortunate.

Sorry, bit of a tangent. In summary, it really, really, really, really feels like crap when you lost your lane/game trying to play your role correctly but you just get pummeled by a Luden's/Deathcap "Support" Mage. Other than that, I enjoy the role. The role is frustrating but rewarding.

I main support, but I won't solo queue as it. I've had to many times where my ADC will do something stupid and then flame me for not following up on their mistake. Now I know I'm not the best, but even when the mistake isn't mine it's somehow my fault. I know that's not every situation and I have gotten some good ones, but it's ridiculous. Maybe I just have bad luck though, so it doesn't hurt to try.

Yeah same happens to me when i play supp people just flame you because they are bad they make stupid plays. But great option is just to mute your adc.

I wouldnt recommend doing that. First if tou are playing solo you are taking away this role from a duo u r constantly going to be matched with. And they are gonna complain about it. Second no matter how well you play you will often feel powerless because your will be uncapable of doing any damage, following up on your engagements and using the vision you give them. You wobt get any appreciation for the work u do. If you still want to go this route go with damage dealing support like brand, zyra or that stone throwing chick.
