@Riot So in patch 6.9 didn't you basically just kill siege mages?

Siege mages were already a really niche and weak pick in the meta with all of the tanks, assassins, or just all of the champions in general who could dive them but with the changes where you killed off mana regen doesn't that kill them off as a class?

The way Archangel Staff works now allows you to cast 33% more spells with the same mana pool.

Does not help actually sustaining, though. You stay dry when you run dry with Arc.

Who falls into the siege mage category though? Ziggs? Azir?

Kog'maw, Xerath, Lux.

Ziggs, Azir (Though he won't be affected really by the mana changes), Xerath, Lux, ect.

You could also build Ahri this way if you wanted to, she was fairly good at it too, between Chalice + WotA, orb's range and true damage, her short cooldowns, and her natural slipperiness.

WATER DRAGON! Not to mention you could always sacrifice some damage for some mana regen. You just can no longer go full ap and have mana abounds too.

Except you can't even really have mana abounds any more; Chalice is the only sort-of option for that, and it builds into two very heavily support items- Grail's new passive is only functional for a mage with shields (Lux, Morgana, Orianna) or active heals (crickets), and Mikael's was originally designed to BE the support alternative to Grail.

Archangels tries, but it still runs into the same issue it's always had in the siege situation: once you're dry, you're dry.

Also, not only does water dragon take 3 kills to really ramp up to an honestly silly level, I'm fairly sure it's not going to be left at the power level it's at. It's seriously way too good. I doubt it's going to remain untouched.

There is also Morello's, as long as you get kills every so often.

The on-kill-refresh effect (which used to be on Grail) is not a mana regen passive, either.

It's a mid-teamfight sustain, so you can stay close to a teamfight even when oom, as the first assist you snag will let you start casting again.

And generally, in a siege situation, you're not going to have anyone on either side die without someone fucking up. "The mage is OOM, it's 4v5" was always one, but you could build so it wasn't- at least for your side.

Now you can't, and Morello's is pretty much mandatory just so you can function in a teamfight.

It does nothing in a siege situation until that teamfight breaks out.

Hopefully there's a new Chalice build path in the works. It has potential to be the big new Siege item, but currently there's no build path a siege build mage would really want.

You could build Grail, but unless you're Lux, Orianna, or "Mage Morgana", you cannot use the additional passive it gets. At all. You just stack up blood charges and they sit there for the rest of the game.

You could build Mikael's, but that'd only be a decent choice if the enemy has snares or hard slows abound, as you cannot cleanse yourself if you cannot cast spells.

Beyond that, well, if you had the gall to actually enjoy a siege build, you're just SOL.

Ugh, first they finally pronounce Dominion (finally, tbh) dead, and now this. Sure, Fun is on a weekly weekend rotation, but a lack of siege build options kinda just kills my will to play at all.
