@Meddler What is your rationale behind the PBE Shaco nerfs?

Because I'm honestly curious what exactly you think you're doing nerfing one of the worst "assassins" right now.

I'll admit, AP Shaco is a tad on the strong side, but ONLY in comparison to his other possible builds. Full AD Shaco is crap, tank Shaco is meh, and bruiser Shaco is merely "ok". Meanwhile Rengar goes around 1-shotting people exactly like before his rework, Talon can out-trade any mid laner at level 2, Kha is basically perma-banned status, etc. etc.

What about Shaco is so out of line that he needs such harsh nerfs on top of the ones he already got during the assassin update? I could understand if you were buffing AD Shaco to compensate (the way you buffed Rengar's AD to compensate for the minor bonetooth nerfs), but you're not. You're simply leaving AD Shaco a steaming pile of garbage, and making AP Shaco even worse than trash.

What gives?

HOLY CRAP THOSE NERFS ARE MASSIVE! I feel bad for Pink Ward. :( I don't feel like nerfs THAT BIG are justified. If the current Shaco is such a big mess maybe just revert his changes from thew update...

Well, they've managed to dumpster all of his viable build paths except one, and it seems that they've realized their mistake of letting Shaco have a viable build and have decided to finish the job.

And honestly, AP Shaco's scalings kinda suck for an assassin (since he can really only use half of his kit to assassinate a competent opponent). And they are further reducing his already lackluster scaling. Hell, look at the highest winrate build - it utilizes not one, not two but three sources of artificial scaling to compensate for his own weakness in that area.

Nerf AP Shaco, because it is not his intended build or perhaps its too hard to balance, which leaves room to buff AD Shaco later on. I think they don't want AP Shaco to be as dominate as it is, they will most likely buff AD Shaco in coming patches.

They added 3 more AP scalings to his kit - on Q, on W duration and boxes on R. This means that they've intended for AP Shaco to be a thing.

And of course AP Shaco is dominant - because every other Shaco build is crap. And he isn't that strong by himself - he is kinda like Sona where hiis AP damage is pretty low by itself, so he has to rely on every possible crutch he can obtain to artificially increase his scaling. And with more nerfs to already lackluster scalings they will force him to rely on those crutches even more.

You know how Sona is nonexistant if you shut her down, but if you give her early advantage and she gets LB + Ludens she will melt your face in under a second? That is the direction Shaco is heading in with these changes.

I know. Just tried to get to the bottom of it. And honestly - I don't think even them can properly explain what they are doing sometimes.

They just don't know what to do with Shaco. They never have tbh.
