What's the Mid Lane meta rn?
I'm extremely good with assassins but have been playing more control/utility mages because I thought assassins are no good.
Has that changed or like what?

You can play anyone you want and have success if you're good with them.
These are the best meta champs at high elo
Mid is honestly the most diverse meta right now. Considering that over a 5% pick rate is basically meta with how diverse the pool is, in order of most meta:
Tank metas tend to be really good for mid lane diversity as you get a really awesome mix of utility mages to buffer up your tanks even more and protect hyper carries, assassins and burst mages to kill the hyper carries to make the tanks unkillable, late game scalers to get through the tanks and squishies alike, and teamfighters because tank metas are naturally teamfight centric.
