So Many Playstyles Now Impossible

Damage is so high, decade-old playstyles are impossible.

Lifesteal builds, like on my old main, Xin Zhao, are impossible. The budget spent on damage, lifesteal, means you don't have the resists to prevent being one-shot yourself, and you have less damage available to one shot them. Plus, one-shotting means auto attack quantity is low, and lifesteal isn't actually occurring.

On hit builds suffer in a similar fashion. Sustained damage loses to one-shot burst. Don't try wits end and muramana. Go for burstier builds.

Tanks can't actually tank. The best tanks in this meta either have on-demand tank abilities, like Garen W, to accompany fulls tank build, and/or damage, like Garen, to melt people without any damage items. Other tanks with amazing CC can go full tank and hard CC enemies so that teammates can instakill a rooted enemy, (think Maokai). Other tanks without CC, damage, or kit-borne tankiness cannot build tanky and accomplish anything. Tanking is just about dead, save for select tanks.

I had to abandon mains for over a year because of the damage meta. Lifesteal Xin is dead. I tried converting to lifesteal Aftershock+Ulti Jax for several seconds of 150 armor and magic resist to accompany my lifesteal in moments, but not even 150 armor and magic resist and 40+% lifesteal can keep Jax alive if an enemy is ready to spend their kit on him.

On hit Kogmaw must retire. because on hit builds are dead. Make way, I will sub iniss fortune and instakill someone Iin the first 1/3 of my ult, or Q bounce execute a minion and do 55% enemy HP in damage at 8 minutes.

Xin Zhao can't be played. Sub in my Hecarim charging in at 800 speed and predator 1-shotting every minute after 5 bounties. That is a potential 20+ kills a game, nearly guaranteed.

This game yielded most of the decade old strategies for the now fully dependable instakill. I get S+ S+ S+ Hecarim. And that is the 1 burst champ I will play. I branch out to older mains, and I get C's, because you ruined those playstyles. If we lower damage again, I'll try multiple strategies again besides building burst every game I want to actually try hard.

P. S. Made on phone in a rush. Forgive typos plz

Why are people encouraging this shit?

Like...really. It's a thread complaining about XIN ZHAO because someone can't build him sub-optimally...and people are egging this on instead of correcting it. Funnily enough, in his match history, he has 2 Xin Zhao wins and 1 Xin Zhao loss in his recent matches, but here we are saying this guy's favorite build path is "unplayable" because damage is too high...not to mention the audacious Phantom Dancer Hecarim games he's (somehow) winning despite his claim that damage is botching his off-meta build fun.

Do ANY OF YOU either commenting now or prepping to in a second think that over-building life steal items on ANY champ, let alone a melee diver like Xin Zhao, is a good idea? Why blame Riot for someone not understanding what they're doing wrong?

Lifesteal builds was my chosen counter to the tank Meta. High health pool, low damage tanks were great to lifesteal off of. I thought everyone except for myself hated the tank Meta. I liked it because I played lifesteal builds to widdle down the tanks reliably (unless I get outplayed and CC'd)

Lifesteal builds had its own counter back then. CC me and damage me, and I could die or lose 75% of my HP and likely not lifesteal it back in time. Today, lifesteal cannot even get started, because the action is concluded nearly immediately, and auto attacks are infrequent and time spent alive with less than max health while not yet dead is so short.

Today's counter to insta-death is insta-killing, and nothing else. It takes a pro to do any other strategy in this one hit KO meta. Diversity is suffering.

Back to lifesteal... The only way lifesteal can matter in this meta is if all lifesteal items go the way of Death's Dance and benefit from all physical damage. At least we can get skills cast before the fight is concluded and perhaps heal from them. Autos? Not so much. Instead of changing lifesteal, though, I would prefer we have lower damage meta or easier access to tanky stats that actually delay your death, so that engages can last longer, more actions can be made per team fight, and autos can take place, allowing on-hit effects and lifesteal to actually happen. If the damage meta and time to kill is going to stay the way it is now, I recommend you use the Death's Dance model and change all lifesteal items to work with all physical damage. You still would need to rework defense items/stats and how tanks play, though, because they do not function well in a 0-time to kill meta, and neither do on-hit builds work, such as Muramana Jayce or on-hit Kog'maw. So many concerns can be fixed by reverting time to kill to be longer (we had this with easier access to old runes, the 27 armor and 27 MR at level 18. It's because of the defensive stats we can't get anymore, plus all the damage we can get that we couldn't get before, magnified by all the gold you can get quickly by doing well on the offensive end. We see these players, myself included, get out of hand with snowballing, that we insta kill people at will when we play successfully)

Even if we have more tank metas, Bramble Vest exists. Any smart player will counter your whole idea with a 1k gold purchase and proceed to smurf on you.

...sure.

Or, and hear me out here, you're simply begging for everyone to pick tanks into your Xin Zhao pick so they don't fight your full damage build with a damage build of your own. Why are you complaining about damage when your build is also full damage? You can't complain about dying quickly when you don't build to not die quickly. It's like me playing Poppy and getting mad when I don't do damage. If you don't build it, there's no reason for it to be there.

Stop making false claims.

Why are you so concerned with stacking Ruined King and a Ravenous Hydra on Xin Zhao to begin with?

Life steal is useless, life steal implies that you dont get one shot, which is pretty sad tbh

Just a small detail to make your argument stronger. I get what you are saying with the garen analogy, but it would be better to use an actual tank as an example instead of a juggernaut as an example for a tank problem.

I think Sejuani might fit well as a substitute in the example.

On hit builds aren't dead. In fact, the most popular and powerful champions right now are champions that combine on hit abilities in their kit with on hit items. If anything, the champions without on hit itemization or skills are lacking substantially. In fact, 15 out of the top 15 most played champions on league of graphs all build on hit items, or double dip with both on hit items and on hit skills.

My Jgl Leona uses Wits End in maybe 5% of my games.(at high plat, low diamond level) It really requires me to be vs a lot of AP bruisers/tanks/assassins tho, which is pretty rare. 5% of my games rare.
